Thoedrix nods to Aurelia, "Lets press forward, we have the advantage." He makes sure everyone is clear of the doorway then pushes the table up to block the way, at least to slow the guards down a bit. Then as an after through he snatches a pair of dice off it and tucks them into his pocket before he leads the way down the secret passage, weapons at the ready, guard up for traps or trouble. "Follow me, and be quick about it."

"I shall take up the rear guard lest any of them follow," Astraea offers.

Still trembling slightly, trying to get his wits together, Bertram grasps his staff. "What in Cayden's name was that?" He searches in his pack for a drink and produces a flask, taking a long sip. "That's good. Always makes me feel better." With that, he follows the others.

"This is as exciting as that one time I had to fast-talk the Countess when she came home and found me hugging the Count..." Aurelia follows as well.

Re: Re: Book 1: Crownfall, Act 3: The Silent Blade
Down the stairwell the group goes, leaving the guards above in total confusion. Down the stairs go for a surprising length, not just a quick 15 feet downstairs, but somewhere between that and 50 feet probably, but hard to tell underground. The stairs emerge into what looks like an excavated chamber. The floor is strewn with broken pots, empty scroll rods, cobblestones, and some random street garbage.
To the south is what looks like a large sewer grate that has been opened, and the heady scent of raw sewage wafts invitingly. Well, invitingly to creatures who like that sort of thing.
To the west is an open door leading into a well-built room. From your viewpoint you also get the fun smell of spoiled food coming from there. Several plates covered in scraps of rotten meat and spoiled vegetables cover the two round tables in the center of the room. Shelves of preserved foods line the walls to the north and south.
Exits from the room go out all four cardinal directions. To the east (where you are coming from), a hallway to the south, a doorway to the north, and the western path looks like the walls have partially crumbled but still looks passable.

"Let's go into the room and look for clues. See what people have been here. Spoiled food definitely means someone was here. Maybe they left abruptly and didn't have a chance to finish."
Aurelia carefully steps forward, towards the room. She also activates her sensing of magical auras.

Brother Bertram is right behind, looking around with his staff in hand. "I think we should be looking for more inhabited areas, they will have the prisoners there, I guess." He listens for any special sounds in all directions.

"Let's keep to one direction so we can keep track of what we've explored," Astraea suggests, moving to join the others in the next room. "Keep taking rights, for instance?"

Re: Re: Book 1: Crownfall, Act 3: The Silent Blade
Brother Bertram, as competent as ever despite what the unwise would assume upon seeing a 'stout' middle-aged man trundling along with a group of fiery young adventurers, keeps quiet and listens to their surroundings. The somewhat damp stone walls dampen sound well, but the man has learned a thing or two about perception that the young-ins haven't cottoned to yet.
The passage to the south stands silent. To the west he thinks he can hear a very faint, repeated squeaking sound. It doesn't sound organic, perhaps an under-greased wheel turning or something. More alarming, he thinks he hears voices from beyond the closed door to the north. He can't make out any words, but he doesn't think they sound alarmed or worried, more conversational.
