New ManWithDoor Campaign

Post by Hermit » Fri Dec 10, 2021 9:30 pm

Lately I've found myself keenly interested in 5th Edition, especially with the plethora of material that has come out in recent years. Beyond that I can't say I have much of a major interest in any other systems/settings at this point in time other than perhaps 40K and a few other games that have piqued my interest of late (i.e. Dune by Modiphius Ent. and Lancer by Massif Press, to name a couple off the top of my head) or those that are scheduled to be released in the near future (Avatar Legends: The Roleplaying Game in particular is one that I'm very excited about).

Looks like two votes for 5e.

Looking at various 5e Adventure Paths, almost all of them start at Level 1 as usual, then go from there. Ones that looked possibly promising:
- Out of the Abyss (an Underdark focused campaign)
- Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (can skip the first part and start at Level 4 if desired)
- The Wild Beyond the Witchlight (focused on the Feywilds)

Pathfinder 2E Adventure Paths that looked interesting:
- Age of Ashes (looks like a pretty classic fantasy adventure)
- Extinction Curse (the party are Traveling Performers, getting into adventures along the way)
- Agents of Edgewatch (you're part of Absalom's City Watch!)
- Kindled Magic (magic university)

I haven't played in any of these, so just going by Book Descriptions and the occasional review on what might be fun to play.

I don't know any of them but I'm up for whatever. :) If forced to choose the idea of being a traveling troupe sounds fun along with being a member of Absalom's City Watch.

I've run Out of the Abyss, and it's a pretty good for a tour of NPCs and monsters you know an love
It's nasty at times, but a smart party can have lots of fun with it
I'd strongly suggest banning/changing the Outlander background though, as its ability ruins the survival aspect at the beginning
Fantasy is the exercise bike of the mind. It might not take you anywhere, but it tones up the muscles that can. Of course, I might be wrong.

Level 1 start in 5e isn't quite as brutal as it is in PF 1e, so I'd be fine with that. I really don't have any interest in PF 2e, so I'd probably sit out of that game. As far as the three mentioned 5e adventures, the Icewind Dale one is the most interesting to me, followed by Out of the Abyss. Others that I would be interested in are Ghosts of Saltmarsh and Curse of Strahd. I started a CoS game elsewhere last year, but it quickly fell apart.

Hey, everyone! Sorry for the long hiatus, I had some personal stuff that sprang up on me while in the midst of pre-planned chaos. I would be interested in playing campaign. I'd be down for whatever, with a slight preference for 5e.

I think my order of preference would be:
1) The Wild Beyond the Witch Light
2) Out of the Abyss
3) Extinction Curse
4) Kindled Magic
5) Age of Ashes

Rime of the Forstmaiden and Agents of Edgewatch don't seem immediately engaging to me.

Hmmmm. I have a forest gnome in mind, who I wrote up to be an eldritch knight in training (her gnome brother would be with the party and mentor for a little while). I could convert that to Pathfinder. I could make the gnome story work for the Underdark by having mentor just up and leave to go there, without explanation and a stern "no follow" message (and make him a leader of some npc mercs). Same with Icewind Dales, but it would be more fun to meet a deep gnome.

I have next to zero experience in adventure paths as written, or Icewind Dales. It had a couple game adaptations, if I have that right. I wouldn't want to skip past anything. Fae are always mysterious and fun, even if they're pretty nutty in the Feywild. I've read a blurb and watched a teaser about Age of Ashes, it doesn't sound unique or set apart, on the face of it. I'd have to brainstorm a whole new character for Magic Uni or Extinction Curse(?), but that's always fun. For Edgewatch, I could just make the gnome brother a member of the watch instead of a wandering mercenary, and my fighter could make it her personal mission to see very square inch of it from top to bottom while fighting crime.

If we're gonna do rankings on what we're interested in...

5e
1. Witch Light
2. Underdark
3. Icewind Dales

PF 2e
4. Agents of Edgewatch
5. Kindled Magic
6. Extinction Curse
7. Age of Ashes

OK, I'm going to get brave and announce that I will start up 2 Campaigns, one in Pathfinder 2E, and the other in D&D 5E. So we'll pick one from each List and start up those Games! :D

I'll wait a bit for more Feedback in Interests, and then start cutting down the Options until we're left with our Picks.
