Kakita Dueling Academy By far and away one of the most prestigious dojos in all of Rokugan, the Kakita academy is the school for some of the greatest duelists to have ever graced the land. The technique of the Kakita focuses on one swift, flawless strike against ones opponent – a flash of steel so brilliant that they never even get the chance to react.

The grounds of the Dojo are as spectacular as the reputation for Crane architecture might allow with blue crowned roofs, verdant gardens and elegant design. Upon the well kept grounds the students of the academy spar under the watchful eyes of their sensei, moving at times faster than can be seen.

Only a limited amount of the dojo is available to the public however, which includes the gardens and outer courtyards. Though the students are often immersed in study, should a suitable challenge arrive for them, many would be more than willing to engage in a bit of friendly sparring.

This thread we will use for character development, improvement, and general crunchy bits for working on the characters.

So taking a look at Muskrat's Kakita Ryoko things on the crunch look good so far. I updated the sheet to include all the text for Advantages, Techniques, etc. Even Skill bonuses at the bottom. You need gear, not much with your Ascetic trait, but looks fine so far.

Some equipment questions:

The equipment my school automatically gives me includes a bow. Do I start off with arrows as well?

The book says every samurai always carries their wakizashi with them? Does that mean we get one for free?

You have Ascetic Disadvantage so you only get "weapons, armor, clothing, necessary tools of the trade for your profession (such as a scroll satchel for shugenja)"

Yes bow comes with 20 arrows, and you should have Wakizashi as well.

So, I don't get the daisho, which makes sense, as Ryoko wouldn't care much about that sort of thing anyway.

Does that also mean I don't get any starting cash?

Sounds like it from the Disadvantage.

Alright, filled out the Crunch of my sheet. Will get more of the personality and history fleshed out this week. Basically made a classic Doji Courtier, hugely in to the political and social scene. Working his way up in society, higher Status, all that sort of thing. Also a solid Duelist, although significantly less useful in a Battle. Classic Iaijutsu, all the way.

I updated Muskrat and Orvost's sheets in the Weapon and Battlesheet area. You'll see that Weapon Sheet is for base stats before your character for weapons and such, and the Battlsheet is all the mods.

A large update to the Armor area, all the math done and such.
