Act II Scene I: Aftermath of the Battle of Axanar

Stardate 1/9407. The Federation has enjoyed a century of relative peace within its borders. The long and devastating war against the Romulan Star Empire is all but forgotten and the Federation’s border with them remains tense, but stable. The Klingons remain silent as well, perhaps still engrossed in a conflict with the unknown enemy on the far side of their empire. The Federation’s peace-time focus is now on research and exploration, although Tellarites and Andorians argue for a stronger navy of gunships and frigates. The compromise is the new Constitution Class Cruiser. Equipped with the most advanced weaponry and home to state-of-the-art scientific research and medical facilities, these debutants of the fleet can operate for years beyond the logistical support of star bases. It is the dream of every starry-eyed Star Fleet recruit to serve on these ships.

"Serao, we need an emergency search and rescue for Cadet Zea." Alik also names the missing security personnel. "They were spaced out of cargo bay 2, along with a number of Klingon boarders with a comms jammer. They were in their Starfleet suits, but they may be injured or in hazard. Please initiate a full sensor sweep, and begin emergency rescue efforts."

There is a long pause as the information Alik relayed is processed.

”King in Prussia: We are picking up the beacon signals from two environmental suits, but we cannot lock on for transport due to the interference we mentioned before. If you, King in Prussia, were to run a sweeping scan simultaneously with the Pas-de-Calais, we should be able to triangulate your readings with ours and, hopefully, get a lock on the beacons for transport.”

"Acknowledged. Working on a sensor sweep, will pass along the readings as they come in." He struggles to get the partially-powered ship to respond, as well as trying to screen out the interference.
I don't know if there are any modifiers, but got 92 on my roll. :P Likely not going great.

Aboard the King in Prussia

Alik runs back and forth on the bridge of the King in Prussia. It’s an unfamiliar ship and he has to reboot systems as he goes. Somewhere along the process, he misses something because the sensor information he sends to the Pas-de-Calais is a garbled mess.

”King in Prussia: We are unable to assist in the retrieval of your personnel at this time. Other emergencies call our attention elsewhere. Good luck.”

Serao’s affection and concern is masked behind her matter-of-fact delivery, but Alek knows her well enough to pick up on her emotions. In any case, their window for outside assistance is past and the retrieval of the missing away team members falls on the rest of the team.

The USS Abulafia looms in front of Zea as her impact with the derelict ship is now inevitable. She braces her arms in an X pattern in front of her helmet to protect the face plate from breaking on impact. It is hard for her to judge whether the impact at her velocity will be fatal, harmless, or somewhere in the wide space between. The collision sends her rebounding and spinning off in another direction. She reels in shock and pain as she is now tumbling end-over-end. Being vented into space from the King in Prussia left her bruised and battered, but the collision with the Abulafia has left her broken and she struggles to remain conscious. There is nothing she can do to treat her injuries within the environmental suit, but she can perhaps self-diagnose the nature and extent of her injuries.
Alik can make an INT and Sensor roll or an INT and transport roll, whichever one is lower. He gets a slight bonus as Campeador returns to the bridge and can assist. Zea’s continued zero-g failures mean she won’t be able to stop tumbling and will probably be space sick shortly. She can make a INT and either General Medicine roll or Human Medicine roll, whichever one is higher, to self-diagnose her injuries.

Zea cries in pain after making impact and groans as her broken body spins in the frictionless void of space. She measures her pain on a scale and mentally traces its source (read: sources) to get an accurate idea of how she's been hurt without being able to see her injuries underneath her pressure suit. With the com still open, she desperately attempts to hail the King in Prussia again.

"This... is Zea Drennan! I collided with the other ship... and I--" she groans again, and just gets to the question, "Please, can anyone hear me!"
Diagnose with Human Med: 52 vs 70.5, pass. Possible Endurance check against sickness pending.

Alik hands the sensor operations over to Campeador, and desperately rushes to the transporter controls. The sensors are designed to detect everything from debris to supernovae, so while extremely powerful they are so generalized that it's having trouble identifying a single person in this mess. Maybe his fellow cadet can get something more now that the engineer has rebooted the console.

His hope is flagging, but he has some reason to hope that success may be snatched from the jaws of failure. Transporter controls tie into the sensors only for relevant data. It isn't fed information on astrological events, so there is less raw data to process. Also, the computer is programmed to analyze relevant objects, so human-sized 'debris' would ideally be automatically highlighted for targeting.
Sensor is 10, while Transporter is also 10. So the math is identical. I'll go with Transport, since he isn't having luck with the sensors generally and would jump to the transporter to see if that is working better. INT 90 + Transporter 10 (average 50) = 37, success!

Zea tries to center herself as she spins and tumbles out of control. She tries to move her fingers and hands and realizes that the bones in her left and right forearms are broken. In the case of her right arm, possibly in more than one place. She tenderly folds her arms to her chest. The combination of her injuries and motion sickness causes nausea to quickly overwhelm her. She vomits into her helmet as she falls unconscious.

The King in Prussia has the most advanced sensor system in the Federation, but Cadet Campeador is not the guy to make the most of its capabilities. Nevertheless, he is able to do just enough for Alik to get a sensor lock to the two spaced team members. Alik doesn’t risk trying anything fancy and transports them to the transporter pad in the transporter room. He and Campeador must pull themselves in zero-g to the transporter room, where they find both team members floating unconscious.

Alik urges Campeador to grab ahold of the security man, while the engineer gets Zea. The sooner they can get them back to the bridge, the sooner he can restore life support and gravity, and then they can try to administer what first aid they can while calling for help. If Alik were the one unconscious, Zea could take care of him. Unfortunately this situation is the reverse, and wielding a hydrospanner isn't going to make Zea get better any time soon.

It isn’t difficult to tow the unconscious team members back to the bridge in zero-g, but it is difficult to diagnose their injuries while inside environmental suits. Therein lies a conundrum Alik must figure out:

The injured team members can’t be helped medically while in their suits, they can’t take their suits off unless life support is restored, life support can’t be restored without a medical officer, the medical officer is one of the injured team members, etc..

Alik curses sulfurously at the hand fate has dealt him. "Campeador, could use your help here. Try to get the ship on comms and request either an emergency medical team, or a rescue transport. I'll try to get our own transporter online at the same time. If needs be, I'll transport our wounded to the ship myself and beg forgiveness later. I don't know how hurt they are, but I have to assume the worst."
