Act II Scene I: Aftermath of the Battle of Axanar

Stardate 1/9407. The Federation has enjoyed a century of relative peace within its borders. The long and devastating war against the Romulan Star Empire is all but forgotten and the Federation’s border with them remains tense, but stable. The Klingons remain silent as well, perhaps still engrossed in a conflict with the unknown enemy on the far side of their empire. The Federation’s peace-time focus is now on research and exploration, although Tellarites and Andorians argue for a stronger navy of gunships and frigates. The compromise is the new Constitution Class Cruiser. Equipped with the most advanced weaponry and home to state-of-the-art scientific research and medical facilities, these debutants of the fleet can operate for years beyond the logistical support of star bases. It is the dream of every starry-eyed Star Fleet recruit to serve on these ships.

Zea's heart races. She freezes long enough for the attacker to make good on pulling on her, then reacts in fight or flight mode. In the scuffle, she seeks a weak point and kicks at the Klingon's beanbag harder than she's ever kicked before.

Alik managed to keep himself wedged into a console while the 'winds' blew, and now slowly unclenches his locked-up muscles as he finds himself (momentarily) safe. He begins to take stock as to whom is still here, noting with alarm that Zea appears to have been sucked down the corridor and likely all the way into the empty void.
Besides Zea, have I been able to find out if any of the security team was lost as well? And can I see if all of the Klingons were ejected, or are some still around? No point in turning back on the power is the boarding team is still threatening.

Alik and the remaining away team members on the dark and powerless bridge of the USS King in Prussia activate helmet lights on their environmental suits and take stock of their situation. Alik is first to notice the absence of the Cadet Doctor. Campeador reports that one from his security team is missing as well. Campeador spider-walks along the wall and peaks out the bridge door and down the main corridor. He reports there is no sign of the Klingon boarding party.

Zea hears chatter on the comm system in her helmet, but she is too preoccupied with her immediate situation to comprehend what is being said. As the Klingon grips her knee with one hand, he draws back with the other hand, which is holding a large dagger-like instrument. His metallic clothing is made for combat and not for enduring the vicissitudes of space. He only has moments of consciousness as all pressure and breathable gasses dissipate into infinite nothingness. His only purpose now is to puncture or slash Zea’s environmental suit and have her join him in death.

Zea is immediately aware of her predicament and lands a well-placed kick with enough force for the Klingon’s grip to fail. As the force of her kick drives her one direction and he the opposite, the Klingon futilely slashes at her twice, but is already out of range. As they drift apart, Zea sees him convulse for a few moments, and then go still before he disappears into the sea of debris from the ship.

The tussle with the Klingon and then subsequently viewing the empty vista of space does no favors for Zea as she tries to calm down and conserve her oxygen. Upon registering chatter in her helmet, she calls out. "Hello, can anyone hear me?"

Attempting to orient herself, she looks for a nearby object that can serve as an anchor from which she can propel herself back to the ship, or just hang on and hope for a rescue.

"Campeador, the doctor and your man are in suits, so they're probably alive and breathing. Getting spaced isn't fun, but they should be ok as long as their trip out wasn't too traumatic." He's no medical person, but he can easily imagine Zea breaking every bone in her body being hurtled through the ship. The situation is probably very dire, but he needs to stay focused rather than fearful.

Alik does try to reach out on comms, although it's down to what their suits can manage rather than the ship, so the range is short. But maybe he could tell if whatever jamming the Klingons were doing has gone down.

He waits a minute, ensuring the air really has been turned to vacuum, and then approaches the battery. "Alright, turning the power back on. I'll see if I can get everything back online, and in contact with the fleet. Maybe you could do a sweep to see if all the boarders are gone, and if maybe your man or Zea grabbed on to something solid ... downwind?"

As Alik and Compeador discuss their plans on how to proceed, another voice crackles through their helmet comms system. It’s Doctor Drennan, but the interference the team experienced before seems to still be affecting her. Although Alik and Compeador have no trouble communicating with each other.

As they strain to understand what Drennan is saying, Compeador signals to Alik that he will check the corridor for the missing team members or Klingons. He and the other security guard start pulling themselves along the walls and float out into the hall. Alik plugs the umbilical powerline from the warp generator back into the ship and the internal lighting flickers back on.

Zea is floating in a debris field. The decompression blast has sent her rapidly moving away from the ship. Fortunately, she can use the detritus around her to generate inertia and change course back toward the ship, but it will take some time.
The doctor will need to make a DEX and Zero-G Operations roll. The Engineer needs to decide what systems to turn on first.

Zea continues to call out in the dark, attention divided between listening for a response and becoming inert.

"Hello? This is Cadet Zea Drennan. I... I've been vented into space from the King in Prussia, and am now adrift. Can anyone hear me?"

She makes no progress in slowing down. The doctor looks in her direction of movement - is there anything in her path?

While turning on life support would restore the artificial gravity, the engineer is still cautious about a potential boarder still being onboard and alive. Instead he focuses on restoring the comms, to get back in contact with the fleet. Even if the jammer is still active, he should be able to get across that Starfleet personnel have been spaced and need rescue.

Zea is having trouble changing direction and moving back the way she came. Despite her best efforts, she keeps floating in the same direction she was vented into space. In her path, another derelict Starfleet capital ship looms. It takes her a moment to recognize it. It was that other ship that made a short appearance in the mission briefing she had with the commodore. What was it called? Anyway, she is now closer to that ship than she is to the King in Prussia, and getting closer. She keeps calling out through her comms system, but she hears only static in return.

Alik makes restoring communications his first priority. It doesn’t take him long to reconnect with the Pas de Calaise. Communications officer Serao immediately responds:
”Craig? King in Prussia? You went dark for a few minutes. What happened? We’ve isolated the source of the interference to a small device that was inside, but now is outside the King in Prussia.”

Gripped by the fear of splatting on the hull of the other derelict ship, Zea redoubles her efforts to slow her momentum, but they continue to be in vain as she drifts closer.
