Chapter 1B: Onslaught at Boontu

After Order 66, few Jedi dare to venture outside the shadows—rumors of the dark and terrible Darth Vader haunting even their waking moments. Yet, some Jedi find this life of fear unbearable. The Empire is always watching, and Vader himself is eager to confront any Jedi that might bring him closer to the whereabouts of his betrayer, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Chapter 1B: Onslaught at Boontu

Post by Shurijo » Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:39 pm

Master Caitken attempts to mutter words, but nothing comes. The padawan feels the Living Force depart Master Caitken. As the Jedi Master passes, his hand falls showing a plasma based wound that was so hot it seared a hole into his side. The padawan learner knows that even a close range blaster could leave a mark like that--that only one weapon is capable of a wound appearing as such--a lightsaber.

Chapter 1B: Onslaught at Boontu

Post by RorytheRomulan » Mon Oct 19, 2020 11:05 pm

Uri chases that Living Force with futile pleading for it to stay as it slips off. No, no no, don't die! Alarmed by the nature of the wound, he picks up his dead Master's satchel and runs out of the room to report Drash Caitken's death and Thraka's betrayal. He should have gone straight to Lorraf Nolb with what he found out. Lorraf was closer to Thraka, he could have saved Master Caitken the next time they spoke. Or maybe he should have confronted Thraka straight out? The sounds of battle reinforce the urgency of the situation at BORD second-by-second as he searches for Lorraf.
Urizen is going to start searching/asking for Master Nolb. If he has no vague notion of where Nolb might be, he's going to the armory.

If troopers flag Uri down for support, this will present a dilemma pending the proximity of the enemy threat.

Uri departs the room and he has to pause a moment to make way for a squad of Clone Troopers rushing out of the facility and towards the canyons. In the distance, the padawan hears explosions and the sounds of the ongoing conflict. He's able to flag down a passing Clone Lieutenant and inquiries for the whereabouts of General Nolb.

"Sir, General Nolb is on the front-lines. I believe Commander Barzane is also in the canyons. We're being flanked on the eastern canyon, so everyone is being called out to support." The Clone Lieutenant pauses for a moment and his face betrays his attention and desire to join his troops. Uri nods and the Lieutenant runs off to join his brothers in battle.

As he makes his way through the facility, wounded Clones are being carried in and laid on cots. As he passes through the cots, he notices Clone Trooper Lucky laying unconscious with a head wound. More Troopers appear to be even more seriously wounded, or possibly dead. Medics rush between the cots applying stimpacks, bacta, painkillers, anti-inflammatories, antibiotics, and other treatments as fast as possible.

Looking out through the half-opened, large reinforced doors, the padawan spots a lightsaber a few dozen meters away from the facility. The lightsaber wielder is close enough to command the Clones, but not yet engaged in melee. Lightsabers that emit a green plasma beam are used by both Jedi Knight Thraka Barzane and Jedi Master Lorraf Nolb, so he can't tell who's lightsaber is visible.

As Uri follows the Lieutenant's directions, he takes a moment to second-guess himself again. He feels a pang of guilt when he passes by Lucky. Thraka has an alibi. That means Caitken was killed by someone else with a lightsaber. But there shouldn't be any other Jedi on Boonta... Something smells rotten either way, but when he sees the one lightsaber ignited, he rushes to the doors and squeezes through to join whoever it is, and unhooks his lightsaber from his belt. If it's Lorraf, Thraka's alibi checks out. But if it's Thraka...

He feels a pang of guilt when he passes by Lucky. The sight of Thraka's lightsaber and Lorraf's tells him that Thraka's alibi checks out. Something smells rotten, but he rushes to the doors and squeezes through to join the duros Jedi Master and his apprentice, and unhooks his lightsaber from his belt.

"Master Lorraf? Master Caitken..." Uri pauses. The words to convey the death of his mentor don't come easy to him. "Master Caitken is dead."

Chapter 1B: Onslaught at Boontu

Post by Shurijo » Wed Oct 21, 2020 1:11 pm

When Uri arrives, he finds Commander Thraka issuing orders to the Clones. "Forward! Every squad rush the droids."

"Commander, that's a suicide mission. We're flanked on the east." A Clone Lieutenant bravely raises his voice against the Jedi Commander. "Clones exist to follow orders! And that's an order! Move out!" Thraka responds as he points his lightsaber forward. "Sir, yes sir." The clones respond and began to run towards the intense battle.

As the Clones depart, Uri sees that Jedi Master Lorraf is not present. When Thraka turns and finds Uri, he says, "What are you doing?"

Thraka it is, not at the east canyon where he should be, and ordering troopers away from it. Uri approaches deliberately with a stern, familiar look on his face, tinged with enmity. Perhaps Thraka would not be able to parse that enmity from their grounded mutual dislike?

"The Lieutenant said we're being flanked, well, here I am. Master Caitken can't make it. He's been killed."

His motivations aren't the whole truth, but it should satisfy, par each other's view of the other - a glory-hound. He studies Thraka's face for his reaction to the news. It matters little. He suspects Thraka's betrayal nonetheless. Uri then runs up ahead and raises his voice to get the attention of any soldiers that he can:

"Troopers! If you're heading to Front, belay that order and join me at the east canyon!"

Thraka has 2y 1g for Disc, so that means 2r 1p
I'm giving Thraka a setback, so that converts to a boost to you

Uri has 2y 1g for Disc + 1b

Total is: 2y 1g 1b 2r 1p
Result: 4 successes, 1 threat
Thraka looks at Uri and replies, "Master Caitken was preoccupied with defensive positions. Padawan, join the clones in a full forward strike." The newly knighted Jedi appears angry at Uri's presence.

Uri is able to discern that Thraka is holding something back about Master Caitken which confirms his suspicions. The padawan has a feeling that Thraka knows more than he may be saying about Master Caitken.

Auto-success for catching up, no need to delay story/narrative

Leadership: 2g, Upgrading 2 dice due to rank, so 2y
"simple order given to loyal servant" is 1 p, I'm saying this applies since Clones are "good soldiers" and "good soldiers follows orders"
Total: 2y 1p
Result: 2 advantage, no success
When Uri issues a new command to the Clone Troopers, they pause and look confused. "Sir, Command Thraka gave us orders. Our brothers are falling, we need to get there."

Uri continues to shout over the group to reach the furthest man with his voice.

"Because your brothers are being pincered from the canyon! But we can save them! Thraka was supposed to blow that canyon up, and now it's our job!" He calls out the Lieutenant next: "Buzzard, you will lead the men and cover Skid while he sets a charge!"

"You will lead." An order. But will it be enough to countermand Thraka's?

The Clones know they need to seal off the canyon in order to slow the droids attack, but they wonder if it's too late now that so many are already through the pass. Nonetheless, they know its the smart move, even blowing up the canyon to create a rock slide would wound the droids marching within the canyon and potentially slow down the companies in the rear of the formation. Without hesitation, they nod and begin running to collect explosives and towards the canyon ridge.

"Stop! I ordered a full forward assault!" The young Jedi Knight shouts as he waves his lightsaber.

In the distance, you hear a fading shout, "Can't hear you, sir." And watch as the Clones disappear into the battle.

"Padawan," Thraka says as he steps down from his position to the ground level. His voice shakes with anger as he says, "Those creatures were bred in some laboratory! They are no different than droids. They are expendable. When they die, they will grow more of them."

The Jedi Knight moves closer to Padawan Uri. With his hand outstretched pointing his lightsaber directly at Uri, he says, "Drash was weak. He showed sympathy for the creatures. If you ever counter my orders again, I will kill you like I killed Drash." As the words flowed from his mouth, he realized that he voiced his crime aloud.

He moves forward with his lightsaber raised.
Thraka cool = 2g = 1 success, 2 adv
Uri cool = 2y = 2 success

Uri goes first in initiative

And quick as a whip, Uri ignites his lightsaber - a luminous yellow - and meets Thraka's head-on, but barely. He didn't think Thraka would be this dumb. When he hears his words, he can't be sure if Thraka's still speaking as a Republic ally, or... not.

He lays into Thraka, all the frustration and raw nerves over years of training with him, working with him, eschew from his mouth like a deluge foaming and spraying up over the side of a dam even as it breaks.

"You know my name, you mynock! You'll say it before we're through! I knew it was you when I found the wrench you dropped in the sand! 'A squeaky bedframe'? A child could make that excuse! You're not half as smart as the Troopers you look down on!"
Incidental: Ignite lightsaber
Maneuver: Aim to disarm Thraka
Maneuver: Aim (reduce difficulty)
Attack

Positive dice: whatever gets that lightsaber out of his hand and as far away from him as possible. I'll even catch it if that's allowed.
