Chapter 1C: The Droid Defector

After Order 66, few Jedi dare to venture outside the shadows—rumors of the dark and terrible Darth Vader haunting even their waking moments. Yet, some Jedi find this life of fear unbearable. The Empire is always watching, and Vader himself is eager to confront any Jedi that might bring him closer to the whereabouts of his betrayer, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

"Another 1000?" Janos sighs. "Very well."

As Passk explains the situation, the Jedi Knight glances to Wile. "Any ideas on how to spring him without bringing station security down on us?"

Wile nods to Passk as the two turn to leave the shop. Before exiting the shop, Wile responds. "Well, it's just the droids we'll need to worry about. The station doesn't really care. This was independently operated until the droids arrived and the Trade Federation moved in."

"If they are transferring him today, then that will probably be the weak point. We can try to get aboard the transfer shuttle and then commandeer it or somehow free him and the droid, and then escape using pods."

"All right; let's go take a look and see if what Passk said is correct," Janos suggests. "It better be, for that many credits."

Wile nods at Janos' comment.

The pair began walking back through the station. As they pass Hanger 2, where Passk mentioned the contact landed, they notice a white Flarestar-class shuttle with red markings. The ship has starship rated magna-locks preventing it's departure. There's also two droids standing guard over the ship.

They continue walking towards the station's brig, which prior to the Trade Federation, was rarely used and mostly to confine drunks from making too much trouble or for those who didn't pay their hanger fees.

Departing the area, and walking towards them, they see a phalanx of B1-Battle Droids escorting a Weequay and a medical droid. As the detail approaches them, they can see the Weequay trying to negotiate his way out of the situation, but can't make out all of his words. The medical droid floats along behind the Weequay. The detail appears to be heading towards the hanger bay area, possibly to move them to a different location.

"All right, I'm going to follow them and see if I can slip aboard," Janos whispers to Wile. "If you get back to the ship, stand by to pick us up once I get rid of the droids on board."

Wile nods and then asks, "How will I follow you? If the ship goes into hyperspace, I won't be able to track you. I'll stay as close as possible until then. If you jump, then you'll need to figure out how to signal me when you reach your destination."

"I'll try to bring the shuttle back here, but if I don't show within a few hours, you should probably report back to Master Vel Aath," Janos explains.

Chapter 1C: The Droid Defector

Wile nods and replies, "May the Force be with you. And good luck. And all that else." The Rodian smuggler then departs in the direction of their ship.

Hurrying, Janos makes it to the hanger bay before the droid phalanx and the prisoners. Within the hanger bay,
he notices a group of (non-droid, various species) workers shouting and cursing while throwing chance cubes and gambling. When a T-Series Tactical Droid enters the hanger, the droid begins commanding the workers and pointing to the nearby Sheathipede-class Type B shuttle.

The group of unenthusiastic workers throw chance cubes once more. As the group laughs and points at one particular worker, that worker curses the others and begins to head towards the refueling hoses.

A handful of droids stand guard around the ship. When they see the Tactical Droid enter the hanger, they come to attention and hold their blasters in a more proper way. It's reasonable for anyone to surmise the Tactical Droid could be the space station security chief and droid supervisor. It's unlikely a space station such as this would have more than one Tactical Droid attached to it.

In the other section of the hanger, unsupervised load-lifter droids are moving around the hanger making their way towards a few cargo containers scheduled to be loaded onto the shuttle.

Throughout the hanger, there are station workers and visitors and others meandering and walking around. There doesn't appear to be any increase in security or concerns during the seemingly routine prisoner transfer.

The ship has a crew of four and room for eight passengers. So he figures, there's the two prisoners and at most six droid guards. As the space station isn't heavily secure, the security detail appear to be only B1 Battle Droids.

Somewhat concerned about the presence of all the workers, Janos pauses to look around for a suitable place to hide - perhaps the cargo containers?
Roll Perception to see if the cargo containers look suitable to hide in and wait to be loaded aboard.

Janos carefully analyzes the situation and realizes the dock workers aren't too happy to be working for the Trade Federation. Prior to the war, the independent station had their own rules and standards. Now, the workers essentially see the station as being occupied by the Separatists. Base on overhearing parts of their conversations, he figures that he could easily bribe one of them to help, if he wanted to.

The unsupervised load-lifter droids have little-to-no intelligence. The droids move cargo from one location to another using sensors to map their routes and avoid obstacles. The crates are large enough for him to stowaway inside, after removing most of the contents.

While reading the markings of the cargo containers, he sees they are labeled "Grand Army of the Republic" and "Mk II EMP Grenades." The EMP Grenades are ion-based grenades that can knock out droids and electronics and has no effect on organics. The grenades has a blast radius which can take out other hostiles adjacent to the target. In this instance, the grenades are most likely confiscated from a smuggler, since it bears the Republic's seal on the outside of the container.
Perception check: 1y 2 g
Difficulty: 1
Setbacks: 1 due to distance/angle of viewing (if you were actually standing closer than no setback, distance means you have to make an educated assumption)
results: 1 success: • 2 advantage • 1 triumph

2 success = extra details
2 adv = recalling conversation, droid capabilities
1 triumph = ion grenades
