Chapter 2B: Day Zero

After Order 66, few Jedi dare to venture outside the shadows—rumors of the dark and terrible Darth Vader haunting even their waking moments. Yet, some Jedi find this life of fear unbearable. The Empire is always watching, and Vader himself is eager to confront any Jedi that might bring him closer to the whereabouts of his betrayer, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Too bad that didn't work, Janos thinks to himself. He hated the idea of killing the clones, but the die was now cast. Moving forward, Janos's lightsaber sweeps through the air as he spins into the nearest group of clones...
Maneuver to move to engaged with group A. Action to attack.

Janos steps forward to face off against the Clone Troopers. His Shien Technique is flawlessly executed as he quickly drops two Clones and severely wounds the third.

The doors to the detainment box begin to open, revealing an additional Clone within the box hoping to surprise the Jedi. The Clone Trooper has Jedi Master Nolb's lightsaber attached to his belt in hopes the Jedi might have sensed the deceased Jedi's presence. Padawan Uri recognizes the Trooper from his armor... After the recent causalities, Corporal "Lucky" had been promoted to Sergeant. Lucky had suffered a severe head injury during the Separatist invasion, but now appears that he's recovered enough to take part in or appearing to lead the surprise attack.

However, after seeing his entire fire team cut down and nearly dying himself, he becomes ratted and his shot goes wide missing the Jedi Knight.

The team leader of the second Clone Trooper team holds their fist high, causing the team to halt and take aim at the Jedi maintaining their distance. Seeing the elder Jedi as the more dangerous threat and to provide cover fire for their fellow trooper, the team takes aim at Janos. While they provide cover fire to allow Corporal Bones to regain some composure on the battlefield, their shots are all deftly avoided by Janos.

Round 3: Clones, **Heroes**

"Lucky? Not you too. What lies have they fed to you?" Uri pauses with his spinning trick, conflicted between the sergeant's survival and then having to fight him, before settling on the mind trick instead. Even if he can only target Lucky, he only needed Lucky to be oblivious to him, to be able to yank the lightsaber away.

He must have Master Lorraf's lightsaber. It belongs in the hands of the Jedi. In Uri's hands.
Incidental: turn off lightsaber
Action: Misdirect on Lucky (object/person: Uri)
Additional pips: Add more troopers, starting with Squad A

IF Misdirect Succeeds
Maneuver: Move to Lucky
Maneuver 2: Steal lightsaber (take 2 Strain from additional maneuver)
//
IF NOT
Maneuver: Move to Medium

Allow Dark Pips. Uri wants that lightsaber. WANTS it.

They had to move quickly. Wile would arrive shortly, and Janos didn't want to give the clones time to bring in reinforcements. Ignoring the lone trooper remaining from the first three he'd struck at, Janos darts forward, spinning his blade again and aiming at the larger bunch.
2 maneuvers (take strain for the 2nd) to close with group B, then attack. Still keeping my Force die committed to Sense for that extra upgrade to an attack against me once per turn.

Uri
Man: Move to medium range of Sgt
2nd Man: Move to engaged
Act: Misdirect - Force Check using Short Range, - 2 strain
Result: 2 dark side pips
Using dark side, -2 strain

You can affect Clone A, which is Short Range but not the Clones at medium
use 1 dark side pip for basic power, success
use 1 dark side pip for Magnitude (presence 2) expands to Clone A

Stealing requires an dice roll

Padawan Urizen Athacorr disengages his lightsaber and tries to commune with the Force as he quickly moves towards the Clone Sergeant. As he reaches out hoping to walk unseen towards Lucky, the sergeant whispers "Commander?" The acknowledgement nearly distracts the Padawan...

However, his anger towards the betrayal of his friends-the Clones, deaths of Masters Caitken and Nolb, and anger towards Jedi Knight Thraka draws him towards the dark side... Feeling betrayed by those who he considered as brothers... who he fought alongside.... the soldiers who he protected... and his master, Jedi Master and General Drash Caitken,... and Master Nolb... and Thraka-always Thraka with his attitude and comments towards him... His emotions turn dark as he reaches into his fear and anger...

His ability to confuse opponents penetrates the minds of both Sergeant Lucky and the nearby Clone Corporal Bones, wounded by Jedi Janos' attack. Calling on his anger and fear, the young Arkanian Offshoot feels weakened and nearly faints from his actions. But, with Master Nolb's lightsaber in sight, he is able to barely hold onto his bearings as he reaches towards the lightsaber...

Janos
Man: Move, engaged to short
Man: Move, short to medium, - 2 strain
Act: Atk group b
Skill: yyg
Diff: Melee pp
Def: 0
total: yygpp
result: 5 success, 2 threat
Soak: 5 vs breach 1, ignore soak
dmg: 6 + 5 = 11
2 threats = setback to your next check

2 Clones down, last has 4 wounds remaining

The slightly older Jedi, Janos, disengages from Corporal Bones, leaps over the two fallen Clones, and moves engage the second team of Clones. His quick actions take the Clones by surprise as his technique is one that hadn't seen used by their former Jedi Commanders or Generals. Janos' feints and quick attacks are no match for the Clones. Before they realize it, two Clones lay unconscious the dusty ground of the arid planet. The third Trooper avoids Janos' lightsaber, but takes a quick kick to the stomach.

Lucky
Act: Attacks vs the darkness - just a old D&D joke
Man: interact with gear
Inc: talk
Sergeant Lucky has seen Commander Athacorr use this technique before, so he knew the Padawan was somewhere. With his blaster pointing obviously in the wrong direction, he fires off a shot.

"Sir? Where are you, kid?" He whispers quietly enough so that Corporal Bones and the other Clones can't hear him. Reaching for his belt, he unclips the lightsaber and holds it out. "You got to get out of here. I don't know what's going on. The whole unit were bonkers after I woke up. Lord Sidious initiated Operation Harvester--they are taking Jedi younglings and Padawans and killing the rest."

Round 4: **Clones**, Heroes, Clone Sgt

Cpl Bones (A)
Man: turn stun off
Act: atk
skill: ggg
diff: medium pp +setback (fear)
total: gggpps
result: 1 failure, 2 advantage
Forgot to upgrade the medium pp to rp (because your engaged with other clones), so ignoring advantages which was going to boost Clone B

Since both Clones are attacking you, I'm going to upgrade the short range attack since that has lower difficulty hence higher chance of success.

Clone Trooper (B)
Man: move engaged to short
Act: atk
skill: ggg
def: 1 setback
diff: short p, upgrade to r
total: gggrs
result: 3 success
dmg: 10 + 3 = 13
Soak: 4 vs Pierce 1 = 3 = 13-3 = 10
Reflect 2 = -3 strain, -4 wounds

final: 6 wounds, 3 strain

Corporal Bones is unable to see Commander Athacorr, so he turns and takes aim at the only remaining Jedi. Turning off his weapon's stun setting, he fires on Janos. He appears unconcerned for his fellow Clone Trooper as he shoots directing at Janos, but his shot still misses the Jedi.

The other Clone takes a step back from the Jedi Knight and fires his heavy blaster rifle. Janos senses the attack coming, but he's unable to dodge it from this distance. Bringing his lightsaber up, he reflects most of the shot, but is unable to block the Trooper's second shot which hits him hard and nearly knocks him off his feet.

Round 4: Clones, **Heroes**, Clone Sgt, Wile/Ship arrives

Clone Troopers A (1) - short range w/Uri, medium w/Janos
Clone Troopers B (1) - medium w/Uri, short w/Janos
Clone Trooper Sgt (1) - In box, engaged w/Uri, medium/cover w/Janos
Image
Janos, 6 wounds, 5 strain (max 13), Force: Sense (upgrade combat check), setback to next check
Uri, 1 wound, 12 strain (max 13)

Clone Troopers A, 12 wounds, max 15 (1 clone remains - Cpl Bones)
Clone Troopers B, 11 wounds, max 15 (1 clone)
Clone Sgt, 0 wounds, max 14

Lucky's warning and offer of aid manages to sing its way through his anger. Uri can still count on at least one loyal trooper. One more friend he may never see again. Possessed still, even exhausted and almost fading, Uri yanks the lightsaber like a possessed gremlin, and it disappears on his person. Finally, with a memento of Lorraf, he comes to his senses, and starts to commune again to hide himself with the Force until Wile arrives. Coming down from his emotional surges, like pulling an emergency switch, threatens to tip him over.
Maneuver: grab lightsaber.
Action: Misdirect on Trooper A. (object/person: Uri)
Maneuver: Move from engaged (Sgt Lucky) to short range

Ongoing - Committed 2 Force Die - Misdirect on Cpl Bones and Sgt Lucky

Janos via chat
Man: Move short to engaged
Act: Attack trooper b
Skill: yyg
Diff: Melee pp
Def: 0
1 setback to this check, via troopers adv last round
total: yygpps
result: 2 successes
dmg: 6 + 2 = 8
soak 5 vs breach 1, ignore soak

Janos' cunning lightsaber strikes and feints easily sneak past the clone trooper's defenses. In melee, the clone troopers have nothing to prevent the lightsaber strikes. His blade slices through the clone, as the trooper falls to the ground. Spinning around, he quickly turns back towards the last remaining trooper identified as Corporal Bones.

Round 4: Clones, Heroes, **Clone Sgt**, Wile/Ship arrives

intentional misses

Standing in the box, Sergeant Lucky still can't see Padawan Uri and can't see Jedi Knight Janos from his location, so he steps out of the box and fires several shots over Janos' head.

Round 4: Clones, Heroes, Clone Sgt, **Wile/ship**

With only two clones standing, the group watches as squads of clone troopers are rushing up to the landing pad from the facility. The Beast YT-2400 arrives and hovers over the landing pad area.

Round 5: **Clones**, Heroes, Clone Sgt, Wile/ship

Bones:
Man: Aim
Act: Attack Janos
skill: ggg
Range: medium pp
Def: 1
Upgrade 1 check, committed Sense
fear: 1 setback
total: gggbrps
result: 2 success
dmg: 10 + 2 = 12
soak: 4 = 12 - 4 = 8

Reflect: Suffer 3 strain reduce dmg by 4

final dmg: 4
final strain: 4

Corporal Bones also can't find Uri and knowing that his blaster rifle won't do much damage against a starship, he takes another shot towards Janos. His first few shots are reflected by the Knight's lightsaber, however, Janos can only keep reflect a few before one penetrates his defenses hitting him square in the torso.

Round 5: Clones, **Heroes**, Clone Sgt, Wile/ship

Ship's lowered ramp is medium range away for both Uri and Janos (so double move needed)
. . . Not to scale . . .

Image
Janos, 10 wounds (max 12), 8 strain (max 13), Force: Sense (upgrade combat check), setback to next check
Uri, 1 wound, 12 strain (max 13)

Clone Troopers A, 12 wounds, max 15 (1 clone remains - Cpl Bones)
Clone Sgt, 0 wounds, max 14

Having a breather hiding in the middle of the fight, Uri considers Lucky, and decides he can't leave him hanging. He drops his Force-aided concealment and jogs over to the clone to urge him to desert.

"Come on the ship. Hurry, I'll vouch for you." He breaks into a run onto the ramp of the ship and leans on a rail to support himself.
Incidental: Cease Misdirect

When Uri reveals himself, Sgt Lucky's head turns towards him. Whispering back, he says, "My brothers need me. I need to help them, sir." As he finishes he fires a blaster shot over the Padawan's shoulder and says, "Go!"

Meanwhile, Janos is running towards the ship's exposed landing ramp. Seeing Uri, the elder Jedi shouts, "Time to go!" and leaps atop the ramp. Turning back towards the ship, Uri rushes towards towards the ship and jumps atop it's landing ramp.

With his rifle still raised, Sgt Lucky takes a few shots at the ship hitting high above their heads and doing no damage due to the ship's shields. Looking around, he sees a still standing, but severely wounded Corporal Bones and another five clone troopers laying on the ground.

As soon as Uri lands on the ramp, Janos presses the button to raise it and shouts into the intra-ship comm system, "Punch it, Wile!"

The Beast takes a slow turn to rotate the two Jedi out of direct fire of the two remaining clones as its ramp raises. Then Wile engages the engines and speeds off away from the former-Republic military depot.

Uri stands still and works his jaw as he handles an electric ball of emotions. Finally, he quits grinding his teeth to say, "Speeder. The speeder is... we left my speeder."
