Chapter 3b: Polis Massa Base Exterior

After Order 66, few Jedi dare to venture outside the shadows—rumors of the dark and terrible Darth Vader haunting even their waking moments. Yet, some Jedi find this life of fear unbearable. The Empire is always watching, and Vader himself is eager to confront any Jedi that might bring him closer to the whereabouts of his betrayer, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Polis Massa Storage Area

Jedi Padawan Uri and Jedi Knight Granite meet in the storage room to assess the crates of sensor markers. Luckily, the crates have been loaded onto hoverlifts that allow easy transportation. The planetoid's surface is rough, but they believe they shouldn't have any problems with hover clearance over the terrain to impede using the lift.

Uri has collected enough breathers for himself, Granite, and two technicians which will assist deployment of the markers.

As they inspect the markers, Jedi Master Divak Tan apears with the youngling male named Tomas. "Excuse me," the Jedi Master interrupts their work. "Young Tomas wishes to join you. He has become quite... bored... with staying within the facility and would like to assist you with placing the markers. I informed him that the decision will be left up to the Jedi responsible for the task since they will need to supervise him along with taking care of the task."

Uri thinks on it. "Sure, we can take care of him, right?" He waits for Granite's input.

So far:

JK Granite
JP Uri
JY Tomas
Two Technicians

with 2 hovercarts full of sensor
One of the technicians says, "Sure, as long as the kid has a breather and doesn't run off. There's nothing out there except rocks and dust."

"Okay, Tomas. We'll have to put on protection before we go out. Promise not to take it off, and to stay where we can see you, and you can join us."

Tomas nods and takes one of the breather masks off the nearby wall. After donning the mask, he looks back to the Jedi. Looking at the kid, the technician states, "You can push the second card. We'll take these to the garage and then head outside from there."

Jedi Knight Granite nods and turns to lead the group through the facility and into the garage. After raising the reinforced garage door, the shield-barrier protecting the facility from the exterior atmosphere becomes visible which allows people and vehicles to pass through.

The second technician notes that "We have enough to create a perimeter of about a 3 kilometer radius around the facility. " Glancing at his datapad, he states, "I've beamed the target locations to everyone's datapads. We should aim to place a beacon within 5 meters of the target to ensure there's no gaps in the coverage."
There's a base map posted to OOC, in case anyone is interested. Once the sensors are placed, I'll expand the exterior (if needed).

Notes: JK Granite, JP Uri, JY Tomas, Two Technicians, 2 hoverlifts/hovercarts full of sensor markers/beacons

Granite is usually described as physically mirroring his namesake, although this time he has also been silent as stone. As the technicians know the lay of the land and can guide them around, the Jedi engineer examines the beacons, making sure they're in tip-top shape. And perhaps ensure they operate at peak efficiency out here in the middle of nowhere. With their limited resources they can't invest in redundancy as would be ideal in defenses. Instead every piece of equipment is precious.
Sounds like a good plan! If possible Granite will make sure that the beacons are fully maintained and repaired. On an outside possibility, if he has any ideas on improvements to the layout he would voice them.

"Got it. We can make due for now until we find a way to get more." Uri starts to push his cart along in silence, occasionally looking over at Tomas. Truth be told, Uri couldn't say no to the boy. Taking Tomas on a field trip feels like something he was missing when he was younger, but he was never much for entertaining. What could he do to entertain him?

Use the Force! The laughter of young adolescents at a bad joke that took a long, long time to lose its luster tickles his memory. Maybe he could ignite his lightsaber for the kid and use it for light. Not now, though. Only when he gets bored again.

The group heads out into the desolate planetoid. The surface is littered with small and large craters covered in what seemingly feels like inches of dust. The gravity isn't as strong as within the facility, which gives Tomas the ability to jump higher than he's ever experienced before.

Gravity is 0.75, so jumping distances are * 1.25 (aka 125%). Nothing extreme, just a tad different

Dust kicks up as the hoverlift nears the location for the first marker. When the dust settles, the technician takes a sensor from the hoverlift and plants it into the ground. The group continues on for a while until they reach the fifth location...

At the fifth location, Jedi Knight Granite holds his hand informing the others to halt. The Jedi, who took the lead as the scout, calls Padawan Uri with a wave of his hand. Once there, Granite points towards a three meter deep crater with a diameter of about twenty-five meters across. The next sensor beacon location would be near the center of that crater.

It's not the large, and otherwise unremarkable, crater that drew the Jedi's attention, but what appears to be a tunnel found along one of the sides of the crater. While the nearby sun and the hoverlift lighting provides some lighting for their immediate area, the tunnel is unlit and they can only peer into the opening from their location.

Uri nods. "Archeology reports mentioned some kind of burrowing worms. Could be dangerous."

He walks back to the hoverlifts and grabs a sensor. He tells the technician to stay with Tomas. With the sensor under his arm, he carries it with him back to Granite. "I'll do it. I can be careful and quiet."

The youngling Tomas disagrees with Uri's instruction to the technician. "I want to go, too. I can be quiet and I'm not afraid of worms. How can anything live out here? Don't they need to breath?"
