Chapter 3b: Polis Massa Base Exterior

After Order 66, few Jedi dare to venture outside the shadows—rumors of the dark and terrible Darth Vader haunting even their waking moments. Yet, some Jedi find this life of fear unbearable. The Empire is always watching, and Vader himself is eager to confront any Jedi that might bring him closer to the whereabouts of his betrayer, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Granite calms his mind as he has been trained to do, maintaining calm while looking at something towering over him, ready to literally consume him. He charges right at it, giving it no extra time to maneuver or attack.
Maneuver to move to Engaged. Action to attack with Lightsaber (2Y + 2G).

Granite
atk
skill: yygg
diff: melee pp
soak 7
def 2 melee 1 range

total: yyggppss
result: 1 success, 2 threats

dmg: 6 + 1 = 7
soak 7 vs breach 1 = (breach 1 ignores 10 soak)

2 threats = Granite gets setback on next check

Jedi Knight Granite takes position alongside the other two. With his lightsaber pike, he thrusts it up and watches as it burns through the thick carapace. The Jedi's lunge places him in a vulnerable position.

worm = 30 - 7 = 23
Uri =
Granite = 1 setback on next check
Tomas =
Tech 1 =
Tech 2 =

"Uh, training rocks, I think? Throw 'em at the worm, let's see what happens."

At a loss for never having faced a giant worm, Uri activates his comm unit and tries to contact the Zillo's Shadow.

Radio:
"This is Uri," he says, being very careful not to give out any information identifying him with the Jedi. "If anyone's on the ship, we could really use cannons, right now. Come to these coordinates..."

He feeds coordinates over the radio, then, following Granite's lead, ignites Master Nolb's lightsaber and simultaneously thrusts up at the worm's underbelly.
Incidental: speak
Maneuver: Radio (hail the YT for backup)
Incidental: Ignite (Jedi Master Nolb's lightsaber) - Damage 8, Breach 1, Sunder
Maneuver 2: Attack worm - YYG (add appropriate Boost from low gravity, Brawn-based skill check)

inc: quick draw, ignite lightsaber
man: radio
act: attack

skill: yyg
diff: melee pp
soak 7
def 2 melee 1 range

total: yygppss
result: all dice cancelled out. It's first time I've seen that many dice with net 0 results :(

Padawan Uri taps his comm headset to request help, but doesn't hear any immediate response. As he ignites his lightsaber, he strikes out at the large worm-like creature. His angle of his strike causes his blade to scorch the worm's carapace, but prevents his saber from penetrating through the harden exterior.

rock explodes/turns to dust

inc: talk
man: use the force
skill: f
result: 1 dark side pip

dmg: silhouette 0, so dmg 5 but soak 7, so 0 dmg

Meanwhile, Tomas holds the rock with a light blue aura. As he begins to throw it, the rock disintegrates into a large plume of dust. Quickly thinking, the youngling attempts to hurl rocks using the knowledge taught by Jedi Master Tan. Within the nearby research base, Tomas had initially begun learning the basics of lifting rocks and other small items. It was an ability that he wasn't great at and he was only ever successful about a third of his attempts, but he believed, if he can lift the rock, then he should be able to move it towards the worm.

As the youngling concentrates, his fear of death wells within him. Using that fear, the youngling uses his newfound ability to pick up a rock and hurls it at the worm. The rock did not glow or appear otherwise changed, unlike the one he had held in his hands before. The rock hit the worm's carapace and there is no visible damage other than gaining it's attention.

The worm's head turns towards the youngling, who now has a whirlwind of dust beginning to form around his feet. The creature lets out a loud, piercing shriek. Suddenly, tremors can be felt around the area as seemingly dozens of worms flee the area leaving a slightly visible dust trail on the surface above their escaping paths. The creature facing the three turns and tunnels deep underground and away from the them.

The dust enveloping Tomas continues to swirl until it forms a small cone pulling dust from dozens of meters away and lifting it up higher and higher into the atmosphere.

"What's happening?" Tomas asks.

Moments later, strange lights appear overhead. Looking up, everyone notices what appears to be lightning forming over the crater where the three stand. The dust continue to be pulled upwards towards the lightning to form what might appear to be a layer beginning to block sunlight.

With the creature threat removed, Master Nolb's lightsaber makes a muted hiss as it winks out. Uri stares up at the expanse of stars now blemished by the layer of dust.

"I don't know... Knight Granite? Is that bad?"

The Jedi Knight just stares for a second wondering what the heck is going on, then goes back into 'command' mode. "We're not sitting here waiting to find out! Finish setting up the transponder, then we're sprinting back to our ride and heading back to base. If giant worm monsters are scared of it, they're probably running away for a good reason."

Standing in the crater, the group is several minutes away from the base and the hoverlifts prevent them from an expeditious retreat. Nearby, the worm tunnel could provide some shelter from the storm.

The overhead clouds appear surreal and unnatural, especially in this atmosphere where there's no naturally forming clouds. The clouds expand to cover the crater and beyond. The two technicians wave their hands, unable to contact the others with the electricity affecting their communication gear. Lightning flashes before you hear a sound and witness a strike.

d100
0-9 = Granite
10-19 = Uri
20-29 = Tomas
30-44 = Tech 1
45-59 = Tech 2
60+ miss

d100
result = 50

The Jedi watches as the lightning strike hits one of the base technicians, possibly drawn towards them due to the hoverlift or just bad luck. The technician falls to the ground.

Cursing, Uri runs over to the techie. "Help me get him on a lift!" He knocks aside some equipment in the way, and works with the other tech to get the injured man onto one of the hoverlifts. "The base is too far. We have to take shelter in the tunnel."

The other tech helps Uri pick up the man and roll him onto the lift. As Uri and the technician push the hoverlifts over the crater's rim and into the crater towards the tunnel, Jedi Knight Granite stays alongside Tomas.

Aft first Tomas appears confused and then starts crying. "I... I did that. I just wanted to throw a rock like Master Uri wanted me to do. I... Is... Is he dead?"

Meanwhile, another lightning strike hits near the sensor beacon and the unnatural storm shows no sign of relenting or dissipating.

Jedi Knight Granite seizes the youngling and rushes him into the tunnel. Meanwhile, Uri and the technicians quickly make their way into the tunnel with the two hoverlifts. Once they are clear of the weather, the technician pulls out a first aid kit and begins working on his fellow technician.

"He's breathing. That'll leave a big scar if not treated in the tanks. After the shock wears off, he should recover enough to walk on his own."

Within the tunnel, they notice more rocks and cannot see the end of the tunnel. It's wide enough for the hoverlifts to enter and turn around, and even wide enough for a speeder bike to maneuver, assuming the size doesn't change further along.

Outside, the storm doesn't look like it's going to disappear anytime soon. After a few minutes, they notice the lightning strikes intensify in frequency. As far as they can see, it appears the sky has darkened, but they are unable to verify if the storm has reached the based. Their communications equipment are also still jammed by the electricity in the sky.

Sitting on the ground with his back leaning on the side of the tunnel, Tomas continues to cry. "I killed him!" He says as his hands wring his eyes. "I'll never be a Jedi now."
