Chapter 5D: Into the Fire
"There are many uses for a builder." The Grand Inquisitor states. "How do you see yourself helping to rebuild the galaxy? It may be easier than you expect to find an overlap between your interests and the interests of the Empire."

Granite has to admit to himself that he's not entirely opposed to the idea, but he also has no reason to trust this Grand Inquisitor and his new Empire. He has received the basic counter-interrogation training that all officers receive, plus his Jedi training, so he is not easily convinced to switch sides after just a few short conversations. "Perhaps there may be, I cannot say at this time. From initial impressions I do not see much overlap with myself and the Empire, but maybe after I learned more of how it operates I might begin to see commonalities of goals and mores."

Chapter 5D: Into the Fire
"The Empire operates the same as the Republic. Most of the government structure and officials are the same as they were a few months ago. The Empire has the same goals as the Republic to protect and defend their citizens."
The Grand Inquisitor turns and says, "There's an unique engineering problem that we're attempting to figure out. As you know khyber crystals hold tremendous power, they can be attuned to provide energy for entire planets. Rather than being coveted by a small group, they could be shared with the galaxy. We could have unlimited power for the remote worlds, Outer Rim, and even into the Unknown Regions."

The implications of such an idea, if it were possible to implement, do immediately grab the imagination of Granite. "Power generation is a problem that most warriors and politicians don't think about as much as they should, just assuming that social position and influence will resolve all problems. But it doesn't matter how much sway you have, if the generator is down, the lights won't turn on." For the first time he looks at the Inquisitor with a small, cautious degree of respect.
"My understanding is that kyber crystals are very rare, so using them at any mass scale is not feasible. But if larger deposits have been found, perhaps that assumption was incorrect." He grunts, mulling the matter over in his mind. "I of course had to use a small crystal to construct my own lightsaber as part of my Jedi training, so I do have some experience with them. Expanding that to be able to support civilian infrastructure ... it is a fascinating idea."

The Grand Inquisitor smiles and nods. "Kyber crystals are somewhat rare. The Jedi only mined some planets they felt worthy of the tradition. There are other planets and also similar crystals, not identical to kyber crystals, but similar enough to provide a fraction of the power a kyber crystal could."
Pulling out another holoproject disk, he says, "Here are some engineering specifications of a proposed power generator using kyber crystals. As you will see, the initial design is similar in construct to lightsabers. A prototype generator is actively being constructed using this design."

"You'll depart tomorrow to review the prototype design. The Jedi betrayed my trust. Do not make the same mistake. The Empire grows every day. Soon, there will be no place in the galaxy that you can hide. The time of the Jedi is over, use your abilities and skills to better the galaxy, to better the Empire." The Grand Inquisitor turns and departs Granite's room.
The next morning, food is delivered to Granite's room along with a backpack. The backpack contains various field equipment needed for the engineering assessment and review. In addition, the provided datapad contains schematics and engineering designs needed for the job.

Granite is intrigued by the schematics, and digs through them in his room. Escape is of course on his mind a significant amount of time, but it doesn't appear to be something that will be happening any time soon. He has no means to effect a breakout, and even if he did he has no idea where he is or what he is up against. Best to wait.
In the meantime, this is an actually interesting project, the kind he hasn't been able to focus on in years. The Clone Wars took up far too much time for that to happen. And if he manages to better the galaxy while a captive, so much the better. At least he would have used his time well, rather than moping all day.

Chapter 5D: Into the Fire
When the troopers arrive to escort him, they require his hands to be bound by stun cuffs which could send an electric impulse to stun him at any moment. After donning the cuffs, he is lead to a shuttle outside the compound.
As he exits the building, he realizes that he hadn't been moved from the previous location on Mustafar where they were captured. He watches as a squad of black armored troopers guard the shuttle as equipment is loaded onto the ship.
Within the shuttle, he notices restraints very similar to the ones used to bind Jedi Master Jocastu Nu and the youngling, Tomas. Nearly a year ago, he and Ashara, who he hadn't seen in several months, boarded and freed the Jedi Master and youngling were were detained by the same restraints.
