Sacrifice

During the Crossover portion between Zakhara and Mahasarpa and after finding the figurines of wonderous power and completing the rituals to release The Lost One, a forgotten and defeated Deva of Mahasarpa it came out that the Lost One required a body to complete its acension back into the world. At first it was to be Rambad's, the dead Corsair, but Ahmed refused to allow his friend's soul to be lost as such, and so Ahmed, recently dedicated as a Farisan (Paladin) in service to The Lost One, offered himself as a worthy option. His friend the Imam Sayyid did the deed, and stabbed Ahmed in the heart, killing him, making his body ready for acceptance of The Lost One's soul.

This was a pretty sweet character death, and well worth the read on the events leading up to it.
Essentially as a young man he grew up in poverty and had to do whatever was possible to survive. He believed in the Enlightened gods and tried hard to follow the word of the lawgiver but it just wasn't possible on the mean streets.

The major event in Ahmed's life came one night when he'd snuck into the graineries of the city to steal food for himself and the a few friends. While there he was almost caught and in his escape his lantern started a fire that wiped out much of the cities food supply. As happens when something like that occurs, the poor of the city starved. Since then he's given up on trying to make it into paradise, believing that he's already damned and nothing he could ever do would make up for it. Instead he has tried to help others reach paradise, committing the sins that are necessary to live in the harsh world of the poor for others.

He's still greedy, and he likes wealth, but he could never enjoy it and will likely eventually use it to help others. It's part of why he hasn't left the group to claim his uncles fortune, he's not sure what he's going to do with it.

Recently, he's really embraced the idea that he's a one of the Lions of Tomorrow, and the idea that maybe he can find redemption. Recent events in game, there being only 4 medallions, the murals that have nothing to do with him, had begun to shatter that dream for him. He was very close to walking out behind Jabiir, and getting out of the real Lions of Tomorrow's way.

Then neither Sayyid or Bashir wanted the sword...so Ahmed thought perhaps there was a role he could play, and Bashir made it clear the sword wasn't for him, that Suhail had expected the Lions to be paladins and clerics (can never remember the words). Ahmed sort of had a break through at that point, he's a good person and he's sick of the rules of the Lawgiver making him out to not be, of people like Suhail who see goodness and lawfulness as the same thing.

Ahmed has decided he's going to save the people of the world, the good, but that he's done with the world in its current state. In short, he's well and truly Chaotic Good at this point. He's tired of the rigid structure and laws of the Gods and the land that make good men suffer.
