Sempai: There are several possibilities:
a) Drive onto the lake but risk falling in yourself
b) Stopping the sled and finding a rock, log or something and throwing it on the lake
c) having Bjorn get off while Wulf continues
d)...anything else you might think of...

I have no problem with two threads, we could also do it in one with a seperate paragraph for each person. Just do what you think is best.
By the way, the way back is the same, so if you get off now, they will have to come back through here some time later...

Bjorn jumps off the sled... "brother, come back this way for me!"

He quickly looks for a large object to toss, rocks, etc...
find a stone and throw it, try to collapse the ice.

The Race

Post by Grimbold » Thu Feb 26, 2009 4:09 pm

Bjorn jumps off the sled and rolls to avoid damage. Then he grabs a large rock and lugs it towards the lake. If he throws it in, it might damage the ice structure enough to make Ulberth fall in.

Wulf has slowed a bit down to let Bjorn jump off and then he takes up speed again, driving along the flat banks of the lake.

Ulberth is crossing the lake, he is zigzagging around the more trechearous parts of the ice and has almost crossed the lake!
Wulf drive: 4+8=12, 52m

Bjorn jump: 11+7=18 vs 15, success.

Ulberth drive: rolled natural 20*.

Total distance covered:
Ulberth 57+67=124 on the lake (it is 150m wide)
Wulf 577m++51+52=680. (the other side of the lake is at 750m.)

Health update:
Bjorn: 22/26
Wulf: 22/22
Ulberth: full
Rathgar ranger: full

Sorry about the posting delay, guys... stuff finally got here and it was crazy for a few days... I should be back to posting full-time now...
Wulf nods at his brother, then races on ahead towards the edge of the lake.

Wulf drives on as fast as he can, his dogs breathing hard and running like the wind. Now he is almost on the other side of the lake.

Bjorn throws a large boulder into the lake, it crashes through the ice and into the water below leaving a large hole (about 1m in diameter) and further destabilizing the whole structure of the ice on the lake. He moves back to look for another rock.

Ulberth sees a treacherous part of the ice and swings his dogs around. The sharp curve makes the Rathgar ranger fall off, he lands hard on the ice. The ice under Ulberth's sled starts to creak, but it does not crack yet. As he takes up speed again he finds he has not made any real progress crossing the lake.
Wulf drives on, rolled *20+8=28! 68m!
Ulberth drives on: rolled natural 1, reroll total 7, critical fumble.
He drives right into a dangerous bit of ice. 60% chance that it will break and +20% for Bjorn's destabilizing the ice with rocks. rolled 93, lucky bastard. At least he does not move forward this round.
Rathgar Ranger REF save: total 7, fail
Ulberth REF save: total 16 success

Total distance covered:
Ulberth 124 on the lake (it is 150m wide)
Wulf 748m. (the other side of the lake is at 750m.)

Health update:
Bjorn: 22/26
Wulf: 22/22
Ulberth: full
Rathgar ranger: full

Next there is 100m open plains and then a forest full of rocks including an aisle (which is too narrow for two sleds side by side) leading to the clearing.

Bjorn seeing hope again searches for somthing heavy to throw in the ice, this time he runs ahead a bit as fast as he can, and stops when an object is found.
moving ahead, finding a rock, tossing it up the lake a bit, as to disturb another area of the ice.

Wulf looks back briefly to see if his brother is alright, then encourages his team onwards.
