Resources

Post by Vardaen » Thu Mar 18, 2004 2:20 am

Here are some links to L5R Websites. Many of these are for the CCG (Collectable Card Game) or are for timelines that have happend throughout the RPG and CCG cycle. I will be running this game on my own timeline, so not everything you read will be accurate. However it will give you a good feel for the theme, and the games, as well as some art perhaps. The CCG and the RPG are wholy intertwinded, that's what makes playing one so much fun if your play the other. I also play the CCG game, and if anyone is interested there is online CCG game and deck builder that I just downloaded and would be up for trying out.

Anyhow my game will begin BEFORE the Scorpion Clan Coup, so really before any of the stories have come to fruit. Websites:

Official L5R and AEG Home: http://www.l5r.com/
Official L5R RPG Resources: http://www.l5r.com/rpg/resources.html
Official L5R Historical Timeline: I will be using up to the Coup atleast: http://www.l5r.com/rpg/feature_history_01.html

The Unofficial Official Home of L5R in all its forms. A Good site:
http://www.deathseeker.com/

Lots of Story and 'flavor text' info: http://my.execpc.com/~tlmadden/games/l5r/

A Great Site for cards and other info:
http://pages.sbcglobal.net/sarah-and-zen/l5r/

Greatest Database and Online Shop for Cards: http://l5rshop.com/

Additional Links

Post by Vardaen » Thu Mar 18, 2004 9:51 pm

Here are a few other links that are fairly good. I used to have about of dozen of them, but I can't seem to find them. I must have deleted them, oh well.

This is a nice gallery of Historical Samurai
http://www.kiku.com/electric_samurai/co ... llery.html

This site if mostly for the Clanwar's Mini Wargame, but there are some nice pics of the models of the famous characters and some other stuff.
http://pages.cthome.net/anakin/kosaten.html

A Geisha House page, with humor and stories, etc...
http://www.cowell.org/~yogo/

A page with lots of ficton
http://www.geocities.com/islandofsilk/

More RPG Sites all good stuff
http://www.kuroiban.net/links.asp?categoryID=16
http://www.ravenclan.org/agate/
http://www.jadelantern.com/

You can find lots and lots of sites with links to other sites, many of them dead links. Many of the sites are stores and shops, but if you want to buy the books or cards or minis take a look.

Also, Brennor posted 3 good books for downloads. These books are for both the d10 and d20 systems so they will come in handy no matter what system we run in. Also there is some good info on the world including the samurai, shugenja and the gods (winds and fortunes). Two more books will be up shortly. The MOST IMPORTANT is the Core Rulebook for the 1st Edition game, and then the Rokugan d20 setting. Either of these books has all the theme and info about the world regardless of which combat system they use.

Keep in mind the 1st Edition has a much more accurate time period for Rokugan compared to the newer d20 book which takes place about 30 years later. I'll also post some Character Sheets when I find them. I know they must exsist since I've printed them out before from someplace.

Thanks to Brennor for putting up the books. You will shortly also find the Core rule books for both the d10 and d20 game systems. For now, I'm going to go with the 1st Edition d10 rules for the game.

Here is chapter one of the Core Book for those that can't wait for the whole download, or can't get a book that big, or can't focus their attention on somethin for more than 4 minutes at a time! This chapter has allt he back story, creation myth, clan introductions, and other important stuff about the game. I suggest that EVERYONE who is going to play read atleast this Chapter 1 Handout.

L5R Core HandOut

Enjoy!

The Best Online Resource Ever

Post by Vardaen » Sat Mar 20, 2004 6:29 pm

I just found this site. Its THE BEST resource site for L5R 1st Editon I've ever seen. It has everyone on it you could need or want for character building. It lists all the clans, families, advantages, disdvantages, etc, etc. This is a must view site for those of you going to build characters for the L5R Game. Of course I'm going to help you all tailor characters, but this will give you all the info you need to make informed choices about the clans and familes that you want to be members of. I strongly erge each and everyone one of you to look at this site before, durning and after chracter building for this game. Wow!

http://laeren.zoggins.net/rpg/l5r/ref/

There is a group of links on this page, for Character Genderation, How too sort of stuff, a few links about the law, magistrates, and over all important theme issues, naming conventions, etc. I can not stress enough how good this site is. If you don't look at any of the other sites you MUST LOOK AT THIS ONE. This is it, this is my new favorite site and we are absolutely using 1st Editon rules now.

http://laeren.zoggins.net/rpg/l5r/ref/ This takes to right to character generation.

There are plenty of good web sites out there for lists of names in the Japan style. Here are a few to get you started.

Here are a few good websites. The first is an easy to use online English to Japanese dictionaray and vice versa.

http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html

This second site is great. Its all about the Katana and forging of the blade and other similar swords. It has some good diagrams and pictures, as well as some good articles. Take a look:

Kakita_Gokumoro is currently putting up posts about each of the Great Clans (and Minor ones perhaps as well) on the OOC Forum for his Honor's Veil game. Since both games are running at about the same time (his before mine) the information he is posting is relevant to this game as well.

I have read his Crab Clan post and it looks great. Everyone should take a look at the posts he's making to help them better understand this game as well.

Thanks K_G-san.

Hey, thank for the proverbial pat on the back - my ego can never get to big!

Seriously though, if this can help you out as well, then spiffy. It should be noted that I'm not posting everything - just the pertenant stuff. Still, it's fairly comprehensive and should be a boon to both our games, as well as any that come afterward.

However, if there's a demand for it, I'll post the things I didn't go over somewhere else for the sake of completeness. What does everyone think?

I'd say to go for completeness. Especially for things that would be generally known by everyone in the Empire.

I keep hearing about other minor clans, but haven't read anything about them yet.
