Combat Actions - How Far Can I Move?

Alright, there has been con confusion as to what you can and can't do in one round of combat in L5R.

I was doing some research on the L5R Offical Forums and re read and re read and re read the book. After a long search on the forums I have come to this conclusion about movement in a combat round.

Unlike d20 where the number of actions and the naming of actions are nice and laid out, L5R doesn't really do that for us. I'm going to lay it out here.

Each Round you make make 1 Simple Action and one other action...
Here are the base combos, there are lots of special cases and techniques that change this, and such. You may always speak for free during your turn.

Focus
Run (Fleet is added at the END of the movement for a Run)
Stand Up
Stand Up + Full Attack
Simple + Move
Simple + Attack (Melee or Ranged)
Simple + Defensive
Simple + Simple = Complex
Complex + 1/2 Movement
Use Special Power (Cast Spell)

Since a Simple Action may be 1/2 your Speed ( [Water x 10] + Fleet) you may get some extra movement in. I'm going to lay out the max movement in a combat for Kosai our Mantis Clan Bushi Example. He has a Water Ring of 3 so his Speed is a 30. This is if he uses all his Simple Actions as movement instead of doing something else with it (drawing weapon, etc)

Focus -- 0 Ft
Run -- 90ft
Stand Up -- 0ft
Stand Up + Full Attack -- 0ft (2 Raises to Attack)
Simple + Move -- 15+30=45ft
Simple + Defensive -- 15ft
Simple + Simple = Complex -- 30ft
Complex + 1/2 Movement -- 45ft (Same as Simple + Move Action)
Use Special Power (Cast Spell) -- 0ft

Simple + Attack Stance (Melee or Ranged): 15+15=30ft +0TN
Simple + Attack Stance (Melee or Ranged): 15+30=45ft +5TN
Simple + Full Attack Stance (Melee Only): 12+30=45ft +0TN

I hope this helps. As it turns out I was doing it slightly wrong, as was Tet, and some others as well. This is open to further debate, but I'm pretty sure after all my study, this is now correct.

I left out mulitple attacks. If you are making more than 1 attack a round, either through Technique, or by takign 4 raises, you are considered to be making a Complex Action that is used for the multiple attacks.


Multi Attack (Complex) + 1/2 Move

Kosai could...

Multi Attack (Complex) +1/2 Move = 15ft

I think the main thing that Var is trying to show here is the Simple Action.

You can, if you make no other simple actions, add 15 feet to your movement as a simple action.

Just trying to help clear it up.

That is of course if you Water Ring was a 3, as it is in Kosai's example.
