Fasting

There's a few rules to deal with fasting, but why the hell would you fast? I've seen no benefit throughout the books.

Culturally, I could see reasons you might want to fast in Rokugan. But I can't see any significant in-game reason where it's likely to come up. I suppose a GM could engineer a situation in which it would be relevant. But that would be so rare as to make me wonder why you'd need a whole rule (or Meditation specialization) for it. And it makes me wonder doubly so why anyone would spend 2 points to get that specialization.

Right. I was thinking that there had to be a mechanical benefit to fasting, but there's not, at least in the core book. I just build my first L5R 4E monk, and was curious.

Yea, I play a monk in V's StS game, and I can't think of any reason to get the Fasting specialization.

Void Recovery, now there's a useful specialization. But Fasting? Not so much.

If you are forced to fast really is what I see the point of it being. If you are stuck in the mountains, etc.

Also not ever L5R rule has to have a mechanical boost, it may have a RP purpose, that's why. AEG is no nice like that.

Yeah, I understand, however, the likelihood is very low.

Togashi monks have a riutal, before getting tattoed. Go into the mountains, no supplies, and come back weeks later. If you are alive, you are worthy.
