Welcome to the Ferryman
Hey! This here is the GURPS game I've been talking about. A drama/suspense/horror game!
The game will probably start in Cincinnati. Anyway, right now Fencer is in for sure. Others, if interested, please let me know.
Really, the only thing I really want you to know is used as the intro. Dead bodies on a barge. That's it. Now, as to what your character has to do with any of this, talk to me and we'll get you the information you need.
Thanks,
Tet

I'm new to this setting, haven't ever played a game set in modern day. So some of my questions might be strange... 8O
1) Is this solo or group campaign?
2) What type of setting is it? Modern day? Just humans? Dwarves, Elves? Spiderman?
3) What are some typical character professions? Police, Detective? I can't see how other "normal" professions such as teachers, clowns (unless they are evil vampire clowns or mimes), cab drivers can fit into a story.
4) How many character points do we start with?
5) How many disadvantage points can we use? (50% total?)
6) Is there any limits on low attributes?
7) Will we be using guns and not swords, etc?
8) TL8? 20,000$

Hey, Shurijo, glad you're interested. I'll try to answer your questions.
1) Group, if there are enough people.
2) Modern day. Just humans. No dwarves, elves, or superheros.
3) Fencer is going to be a PI. Some things I did list is doctors, coroners, priests, psychics, cops, maybe a relative of one of the victims, and other such things. You could even be a barge captain or something, or an exec of the company, a reporter. Other random professions such as cab drivers could fit in. I can fit in anything, really.
4) 100 points
5) 40 points (Including quirks if you want them)
6) Not really... but, if you say I have 3 IQ I'm going to assume your character is mentally handicapped. I think you get the idea. Probably wouldn't want to go below 6-7 if you're not handicapped in that area.
7) Modern day. Probably no swords.
8) TL 8, yes, you can have all the starting gear you need within reason.

EDIT: Notes crossed. I guess I took a while writing mind.
While I thought this was going to be a solo adventure (a period which ended approximately one minute ago), I suggested and TetNak agreed that gear, wealth, gun permits, and the like be totally outside the character point system. It can get tedious to fill a backpack in D&D; it would be terribly annoying to build a character by filling two suitcases and a carryon bag, let alone a small two-bedroom house with a one-car garage plus carport. Nor would it be good to have characters in the habit of 14-day advance purchases on their plane tickets.
That's the wealth/gear side. I further pointed out that there is almost no such thing as a nationally-valid gun permit in the US, certainly none that wouldn't require the expenditure of a whole lot of character points. So we agreed that those would be fudged, and also outside the character point system.
Beyond giving that stuff for free, I think he's looking at standard 100 point characters. And I'd guess that after the Beneloc fiasco, he'll go by something like the standard cap on disadvantages.
(Beneloc was a magic-using character for the Crossroads of Fantasy GURPS game. TetNak and I waited for months until the time was right to introduce him play. Within a few weeks he was right back out of the game, having been deemed grossly overpowered.)

I'm thinking of playing an FBI Agent (found a few good police, detective, FBI templates in a GURPS COPs 3e book).
But I've been thinking all weekend of how a FBI agent and a PI would work together and I couldn't figure it out. From the FBI guy's perspective, the PI is a civilian that shouldn't be interferring with police matters, etc.
I'd like to get into a game where the players are working together, but I am having a problem figuring out how law enforcement and non-law enforcement could be on the same team. Any ideas?

I can think of a couple things. PI has information FBI needes, etc. You guys could get caught together by circumstance. I doubt a FBI agent is going to hire a PI, but maybe a family member would since the government is giving them all the details of the case, etc.

I was suggesting a specialist PI, expert in the areas of art/antiquities (establishing provenance, etc.) I presumed that in any horror story there would ba aspects of that in the case (if not, TetNak, please steer me away from this idea, and I'll go back to the forensic coroner/party healer idea). Somewhat of a Banacek kind of character (for those who remember the 1980s TV series), but he carries a gun.
Also, if something is happening on a barge in the Ohio River, a lot of people might just happen to be in a position to see it, if a coincidence is needed to get the story started.
