Smith's golden eyes scan the scrutinize the groups surroundings intensely, but don't pick up any sign of the strange noise's source. Cautiously and deliberately, he slides his shield onto his arm, and wraps his other hand around the hilt of his mace.
"Brace for potential attack," he says, keeping his gaze firmly fixed on the location the sound appears to originate from.

The little goblin heads off of the trail, disappearing into the woods toward the noise. The sound repeats often in an odd, random fashion, and is easily followed. With all the commotion, Andromedus has an easy time slipping silently forward. He slowly pokes his head above a dead tree, peering across a small clearing.
Straddling a large downed tree on the other side is an even bigger bear-like creature, looking to weight nearly 2000 lbs. On all fours, it is easily as tall as Smith and would tower above the smaller goblin. Bony protusions stick out of its thick fur at odd angles along its shoulders, at its elbows, around its head, and down its back. It sits astride a large, downed tree. Chunks of wood lie helter skelter all about the beast, and as Andromodus watches, it tears another large chunk out of its bench, tossing it aside and scooping some small animal out of its hole and into gaping jaws.
The clearing is about a hundred feet long, and borders the road on its west side. The bear is on the opposite side. Andromedus carefully leaves his hiding spot, approximately half way between, on the southern, downhill side of the clearing. And a bit too close for comfort.
The bear continues digging for whatever it is that is the current snack, and Andromedus quietly creeps back to the party with his information.

Andromedus looks to the party, and with eloquent hand gestures describes the huge bear-like beast and how it tore open the bench and devoured the creature. As the party well knows, this goblin does not talk unless it is necessary for negotiations or under dire circumstances. He also takes a stick and draws a picture of the creature in the dirt, then using arrows in the dirt, he suggests a flanking formation the group heads in on three fronts, one smaller group behind and one on each side of the bear> He then looks to the former Cryan Soldier for his suggestions.

Herick checks the drawing and shakes his head, "If this enemy is not in our way, I say let us go around. To quote Alezreth's Lessons of Warfare, 'Avoiding an unnessecary battle is a victory in its self'." Quoting the well known Cyran General's tresty on combat Herick makes a line through the dirt around the huge bear. "We could circumvent the bear if we stayed along the western side of the trail, moved quickly and quietly." He glances at the Shifter and the Warforged for their input.

The Shifter snorts derisively, flexes his hands and shifts his weight impatiently as the Andromedus recounts his scouting expidition.
His mighty brows furrow at the Soldier's suggestion.
"Yes a wiser course of action is for us to avoid the bear and continue our mission. But.....
He waits a moment to see if he has everyones attention then continues "....It would also reckless and unwise to leave the bear behind us, perhaps it catches our sent and follows us and attacks us at night, or worse....continues to town without us or the other soldiers their.....We are probably obligated to defeat or trap it...."

Smith shakes his head.
"I do not believe we are near enough to New Eston for the creature to pose a signifigant threat to the populace, and engaging it in battle would needlessly delay our mission. I concur with Lieutenant ir'Polwen's tactical analysis; avoiding the creature is the most expedient strategy at this time."
