"Hrmmm," grumbles Smith, "Andromedus has a point -- many of us are not stealth-enabled, myself especially. Still, if we give the creature a wide enough berth, we may be able to avoid engaging it."

Herick taps the map and makes the call, "Its settled then. We will move with causion around the great bear. Those with skill in scouting will head first and set up a position under cover, with bows and ranged weapons while the rest move as best as they can. If the bear turns on us we will have its flank, and the element of distance for a volley or two of arrows before it engages the others." He traces the path the group is to take, points out where the scouts should set up position, and then turns looking up the path then back at the group. "No more time to waste. Smith, Kalagar and Enialiss will stay in the second group. Andromedus and I will scout ahead and set up position. Move as wide and as silent as you can. Sound is going to be the biggest factor here." He checks his bow, adds and arrow to it and adds, "Oh yes, and try and stay downwind. Lets go, lead the way Goblin."

Andromedus nods to the soldier, and reattaches the mace to his belt, before looking at the direction according to the map, sniffing the air momentarily, and slipping off into the under brush once again, trying his best to hide and be silent.

After taking focus, Eniallis readies a fiery ray. Bringing his finger up and pointing toward the noise he waits for visual que to strike. All the while moving along as the others do

The agile pair swiftly makes their way up and around the clearing. The little goblin seems to float silently along, carefully stepping over branches, hopping from rock to rock, the benefits of his size and natural grace obvious in every step. Herrick follows a bit more slowly, but moves rather well for a bigger man. Only once does he miss-step, a branch breaking underfoot. Apparently fully interested in finding the rest of its meal, the bear continues to tear large chunks from the downed tree, oblivious to the first two passing. They take up positions with cover, but a view and wait.
modifiers applied :)
move silent: Andromedus 25; Herrick 5 VS. listen 'œnatural 1' Success!!
The last three spread out, slowly moving along a small, 20 foot, rock face, as far from the bear as possible. The route is rugged, but a bit lower, putting at least some obstacles between them and the bear's line of sight.

Eniallis goes first. The unarmored man moves swiftly, a focus obvious in his eyes and his step. Keeping his head low, he makes it past the clearing's edge. Smith comes next, with Kalagar bringing up the rear. The large metal war-forged does his best to keep his head down, but the glaring mountain sun betrays him.

Across the clearing, Herrick and Andromedus see a brief flash of reflected light. The bear turns his head toward the road, sniffing. He drops off of his perch, and stands up on his hind legs, head held high, searching for prey. The beast towers somewhere over nine feet tall, easily spying the trio. Closer up, Andromodus and Herrick can see that the thick fur seems to hang a bit off of the creature's large, bony frame. 'œSpringtime,' they realize, 'œHungry'¦'

Dropping down to all fours, the horrible grizzly starts trotting toward the trail at the other end of the clearing. Its terrible claws churn large chunks of grass and earth into the air with each step.
Surprise round for Herrick and Andromodus, the bear is still unaware of them. Then,

he is flatfooted, correct?
Andromedus sees an opportunity to strike, as the creature has not yet gained a defensive posture. He waves his hands in an intricate set of gestures before shooting a blast of dark energy at the beast.
so it's a ranged touch attack, I'm not sure if he gets cover from the trees, or anything, but his AC should be plenty low anyhow. take it as you will.

A deep, dark ray shoots out of Andromedus' hands, narrowly missing the tree in the middle of the clearing, and striking the surprised beast in its right, front shoulder. The bear roars its outrage. Its massive head swings around, seeking its attacker, who remains, for the moment, unseen.
Andromedus Surprise Touch Attack 7+9 = 16 Hit!! 8 Points damage!

Herick curses silently as he breaks the branch, but when the bear doesn't react he is greatful. In position he hold an arrow to the string of his bow, but doesn't pull it back. He waits as the three others make their way up the trail, and seem to be doing fine until the flash of Smith fills the vale with reflected light. Need to requisition the 'Forged a cloak.[/spoiler] He draws back on the arrow as the energy leaps from the strange groblins hand. He holds the mighty bow tight delaying a moment waiting as the bear is struck with the energy and then releases as its distracted with the pain of the first attack. As he fires he gives a hard whistle from between his teeth, the sign to the others that they have been spotted and battle as begun.

Eniallis realizes the bear is too far away and instead begins concentare on the astral plane which sorrounds him. Soon a mass of hard ectoplasm begins to shape and mold into a small creature that somewhat resembles a humanoid in shape. The bulky, featureless being then begins to charge the bear and attack.
Smallest astral construct, buff and improved slam attack abilities from menu A.

Herrick's arrow flies true, striking the flank of the huge beast, but barely piercing its thick hide. The bear's head swings toward the whistle, his attention drawn to closer prey.
