Bakemono: Round 1

Post by Vardaen » Fri Sep 09, 2005 7:28 pm

Round 1 Initiative: Ijiko 50!, Noburo 35!, Rokku 28, Hidekazu 16, Bakemono 15

Hidekazu stands silent, the bamboo tattooes on his body wave slighty, as if a thicket of the plants was being tickled by a soft breeze. His body thickens and the power of Togashi's Tattooes takes effect on the Dragon Monk. He steps up slowly moving forward.
Posture: Attack. Standard Action: Special Ability (Activate Tattoo +6TN to be Hit) - Lasts Insight Rank + 1. Simple Action: Walk Forward 10 feet
The Bakemono leap and bound to the attack. The goblins wield no weapons, dropping the tanto that the one was using to stab the peasant woman. The pack of the small green monstrosities turns its attention on the two samurai that chose to close the gap fully.

The first of the bakemono spins with all its anger on the Scorpion woman Ijiko swing with a raking claw that the lithe woman deftly avoids. The creature leaves itself completely over extended from the effort.
#1 Stance Full Att vs Ijiko: (Two Free Raises: Both used for attacking, +5 per free raise on attack roll (+10 total) Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemomo). Wounded 10 Penalty. Roll: 8 Miss
The two next to the first turn on Rokku. The goblins do not appear to be very strong but they throw themselves with suicidal abandon on the former Akodo. They bite and claw at the man with no regards for their own safety or defense. The first of them rakes blood claws across the weak spot on Rokku's knee opening up a deep wound that rips flesh and tendons causing great suffering to the ronin. The second bakemono has no sense of honor and uses the opening created by his kin to bite down into the forearm of Rokku. The teeth of the shadowlands beast digs in through the armor of the man piercing his muscle and nearly sending his wrist and hand limp and useless. In the matter of a few seconds Rokku nearly falls under the swarming attacks of the little green bastards.
#2 Stance Full Att vs Rokku: (Two Free Raises: Both used for attacking, +5 per free raise on attack roll (+10 total) Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemomo). Wounded 5 Penalty. Roll: 20 Hit for 10 Wounds.

#3 Stance Full Att vs Rokku: (Two Free Raises: Both used for attacking, +5 per free raise on attack roll (+10 total) Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemomo). Wounded 5 Penalty. Roll 22 Hit for 21 Wounds (@ Crippled, +15 TN Penalty to all actions, Water Ring Reduced By 1 for Movement Purposes. @ 10ft Movement)
The remaining three Bakemono move out from behind their cousins sweeping around Ijiko and Rokku and charging up the road heading toward the tattooed monk Togashi Hidekazu and the Shugenja Noburo. As they run they spy the patters of a crow on Hidekazu's skin, and set all of their beedy eyes on him with wild screams and flailing arms.
#4 Run 30ft
#5 Run 30ft
#6 Run 30ft
All 3 are clearing heading for Hidekazu.
"Tides of Battle"
Tides of Battle, this rule located on page 166 creates a fluid combat. Those that suffer no wounds since his last turn get to roll 1k1 and either add it to their own initiative or subtract it from a foes initiative that they wounded that round. (This die does not explode) This rule may make things interesting in this setting. Some of these rolls will be easy to figure, as some character will either not have this option or will only have the option to add it to their own initiative. Those that can do either, either gain intitiative or slow an enemy will present some tricky situations. A player may wish to slow the enemy so an ally will have a new initiative, etc. I will do my best to provide the best option for this tide of battle roll for characters. One possible option is to give players a chance to include the option they would prefer in their spoiler post for the previous round, or to have them include it in their post for the new round. It can possibly slow the combat down greatly, so for now I will assign this number as I think it will benifit the group best until we find a good way to do it. There is always the optiont o drop this rule all together as well.

"Tides of Battle"
Rokku Loses 15 on Initiative from Wounds (Does not roll ToB)
Ijiko +8 Self
Naburo +2 Self
Hidekazu +4 Self
Bakemono 4-6: 6 Self
Bakemono 1-3: Loose Initiative from Wounds (Do not roll ToB)

New Initiative: Ijiko 58!, Noburo 37, Bakemono 4-6: 21, Hidekazu 20, Rokku 13, Bakemono 2&3: 10, Bakemono 1: 5

Note to Pyran: In KYD Rokuan all spells that are no Maho have a +5 TN difficulty to cast due to the fact that the Kami are so far removed froom the tainted lands. I forgo that in your first spell use, but you still succeeded with flying colors. Remember however, all spells are +5TN to cast from now on out. That may effect how many times you want to raise.

I'm still not completely clear on raises and stances, but I can wing it. or if there are AoO either...
Ijiko laughs as she deftly dodges the Bakemono with a graceful twirl, but sees that her former lion companion is not so nimble. She twirls her katana gracefully before swinging carefully at the one that attacked her friend, ending in a graceful cranelike stance with her katana in the air.
I guess it's full attack on the bakemono in front of Rokku. I'll take my three free raises on him(if no bad things occur for my using them, if raises can add to damage, put one of the free raises in dmg instead) with my attack too. no movement. next ToB on myself.

Round 2 New Initiative: Ijiko 58!, Noburo 37!, Bakemono 4-6: 21, Hidekazu 20, Rokku 13, Bakemono 2&3: 10, Bakemono 1: 5
Aramil, you current get 3 free raises against the goblins that are attacking you and Rokku (1-3). Those free raises can be spent in anyway (You can check the book for various options). You can spend them on extra chances to hit: reduce there TN to be Hit by 5 per raise, or on Damage, 1 Raise is +1k0, 2 Raises s +1k1, etc.. So you spent the raises fine.

However, if you Full Attack Stance, you gain 2 MORE Free Raises, but anyone that attacks you between now and your next action get 3 Free Raises on you. I suggest simply using the Attack Stance, that way you won't leave yourself wide open to attack. I believe that is your best choise and will use that for you.

Postures (Stances): (Page 167)

Full Attack: Gain 2 Free Raises that can only be spent on Att or Dmg Bonus. Foes gain 3 Free Raises against you till your next turn. Can move full movement and attack.

Attack: No free raises against foes, foes don't get free raises against you. This is the standard stance. Can make full move and attack but by taking a Raise (Not Free Raise). (Meaning attacking is +5TN Harder)

Full Defense. No attack is made, use Defense Skill to gain TN to be Hit. Can only move half movement during the round.
Ijiko twirls her katana spinning to face the Bakemono that assults the ronin Rokku, hoping to fell one of his foes to easy the burden of his fight. The lithe Scoprion spins and stabs, her blade pierces into the neck of the goblin and trusts out slicing open a large wound in the side of its neck. Poised like a crane, perhaps in mockery or homage, of the now dead clan Ijiko sends the bakemono to the ground in a heap. The goblin is not dead, as it twiches and bleeds, but there is no chance of it getting back up into this fight, or any fight without serious assistance from a healer.
Ijiko: Stance Attack. (Free Raises: 2 Att -10TN to Hit, 1 Dmg +1k0): Roll 15 vs 0 Hit for 6k2, 21 Dmg #2, OUT
Noburo continues to act quickly...

Noburo gracefully glides backward to keep distance between him and the charging bakemono. He continues the prayer written in the scroll before him, reciting it as fast as before. His other arm extends toward the goblins, hand is curled into a fist, calling on the fire kami to cleanse the land of the foul creatures.

The fire kami no longer surrounds Noburo, but now swirls around his extended arm like a cyclone. Noburo's hair and kimono flaps in the deafening wind caused by their excited movement. He struggles to complete the prayer and opens his hand to release them at their target.

Round 2: Initiatiave: Ijiko 58!, Noburo 37!, Bakemono 4-6: 21, Hidekazu 20, Rokku 13, Bakemono 2&3: 10, Bakemono 1: 5
Noburo drops back ten feet as he continues to read the scroll in a hurried manner. Hs draws upon his inner strength, a strength that he knows comes from his touch with the elements. Many people call it luck, or fate, but the Shungeja of the Pheonix know better, it is the Void, the emptiness that connects all things and exsists inside and around them. With the aid of the void to fuel his spell he calls on the Fires from Within and let out another volley of fiery balls. The Kami are hard to call on, but he has no problems doing so. His kimono billows with the heat for a second before a trio of flaming balls shoot out of his palm streaking toward the Bakemono that swarm forward. The kami scorch the various goblins, two of them only taking grazing hits from the flash fire, a third being hit dead center causing flames to burn up its ragged clothing and melt its flesh far greater than the others. It falls to the ground in pain, howling and gibbering in its foul language, cursing as it lays slumped on the ground in terrible pain.
Noburo: Fires From Within: 3 Targets, TN 40. (You can only spend 1 void point per roll. You may not spend 2 void points on a single roll pg 164.) 8k6 - 6 7 9 18 18 7= 65! Success. Dmg: 6 3 1 3=13, 18 6 6 3 = 33, 3 9 2 1 = 15
The Bakemono howl in pain and anger at the Shugenja but they are drawn to the nearest target, the Crow Tattooed Monk Hidekazu. The two burned bakemono on the flanks of the monk charge forward, putting all their efforts into attacking him, careing nothing for their own safety. They throw themselves at the Togashi who sidesteps one of the attacks slowly, but effectively. The other bakemono's tainted claw slams into the unarmored monk only to find that a forest of bamboo blocks its attack as the tattooes on Hidekazu shifts across his skin to form up an armor like defense against the attack. The third deeply wounded Bakemono is crippled by the attack and simply howls in pain as it is unable to drag itself forward any further.
Bakemono
#4 Stance: Full Att vs Hidekazu (Two Free Raises: Two used for attacking, -10 Hidekazu's TN To Be Hit. Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemomo): Roll 23 vs 24 Miss (Thank the Bamboo Tattoo, and Wounds)
#5 Stance: Attack. Movement (Water Ring) is reduced by wounds to 0.
#6 Stance: Full Att vs Hidekazu (Two Free Raises: Both used for attacking, -10 Hidekazu's TN To Be Hit. Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemomo): Roll 9 vs 19 Miss

Hidekazu is surrounded by the Bakemono, but the fire Kami Noburo has invoked as weakened them considerably. The first claw is swung, and the ise zumi simply leans to the side, gracefully allowing it to pass. The second catches his arm, but his thick skin does not allow any damage to present itself.

The monk, who is often silent, speaks. "You foul creatures. Do you think your taint could be passed onto one such as I?" He frowns, scoffing at the creatures as his stance quickly changes into a squat. His legs are bent, and the monk leans forward, swinging both hands forward in a single blow. His right fist, palm down, and left fist, palm up, both travel for the Bakemono's trunk about a foot apart.
Stance: Attack
Standard: Melee attack vs. #4
Free Raises: Raise 1 to Hit vs. #4, Raise 2 for Dmg for 1k1.
Void: Use 1 Void for dmg, 1k1

Round 2: Initiative: Ijiko 58!, Noburo 37!, Bakemono 4-6: 21, Hidekazu 20, Rokku 13, Bakemono 2&3: 10, Bakemono 1: 5

Note: You may not spend void points on damage unless you are wielding certain weapons, the Katana is one such weapon.
Hidekazu drops into his attack stance, his knees bending he lowers himself down into a squat just before the short bakemono. With his tw hands layered over one another he strikes forward with them. His fists connect with the sternum of the goblin and the shattering of ribs can be heard over the cry of the showland's minion. The goblin falters and crumbles to one knee as the breath is taken from him, and his organs inside are pierced by the broken ribs, but the strength of the Shadowlands is strong, and the Bakemono is a creature of it, it does not fall completely.
Hidekazu: Stance: Attack, Free Raises: 1 Att, 2 Dmg, Att #4: 7k3 9 7 7=23 Hit for 5k3 - 7 7 3=17 DMG

Grimacing but pushing through his injuries, Rokku counterattacks his attackers, striking with precision and brutality.
Attacking the nearest goblin, Using 3 free raises to reduce TN, then using last free raise (from Akodo School) for damage.

Bakemono

Post by Vardaen » Thu Sep 15, 2005 11:38 pm

Round 2 Initiative: Ijiko 58!, Noburo 37!, Bakemono 4-6: 21, Hidekazu 20, Rokku 13, Bakemono 2&3: 10, Bakemono 1: 5
Rokku, the former Akodo, that was until Hantei the 38th abolished his family name for the failure of Akodo Toturi to defend his father against the Scorpion Clan and their their coup many years ago, counter attacks. His blade swings to his left and cuts into the belly of the Bakemono there with a simple neat slice. The blade passes easily through the hide of the goblin, but there is not enough emotion behind the blade to slay the beast, only wound it greatly. Perhaps its the great wounds that Rokku himself already suffers that prvents his strength from flowing freely. The wound however is so great you doubt it will be moving much, or doing much for the rest of the combat, but it still has the fire of battle in its eyes and it will however attempt to fight on.
Rokku: Stance: Attack. Free Raises (Reduce TN -15TN, School for +1k0). Att #3: 6k3 8 12 15=35 Hit for 6k2 7 8 = 15 DMG
The two remaining Bakemono leap to the attack. Well leap is a strong word as the creature that Rokku just sliced open swings with a wild claw at the ronin, the attack falling well short.
#3 Stance: Full Att vs Rokku (Two Free Raises used for Attacking -10TN to be Hit. Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemono.) 11 8 = 19 vs TN 25 Miss
The last remaining Bakemono screams at Ijiko and attempts to bite down on the samurai-ko's arm. The quick motion of the Scorpion's move prevents this, and leaves the goblin biting into the thin air with a howl.
#1 Stance: Full Att vs Ijiko (Two Free Raises used for Attacking -10TN to be Hit. Party gets 3 free raises vs this Bakemono.) 8 3=11 vs 23 Miss
Tides of Battle
"Tides of Battle"
Ijiko +1 to Self
Noburo -2 to Bakemono 4,5,6
Hidekazu +1 to Self
Rokku +6 to Self
Bakemono #1 +5 to Self

New Initiative: Ijiko 59!, Noburo 37!, Hidekazu 21, Bakemono 4-6: 19, Rokku 19, Bakemono 3: 10, Bakemono 1: 6

Remember folks, this is a high fantsy game, try and make your posts reflect that. I've noticed a few below average posts already. That doesn't bode well.

The scorpion twirls deftly to dodge the bakemono's attack, and uses the momentum to twirl almost like a top and swing the sword right at the bakemono's neck, she ends with her back to him and ends with her sword above her again, but this pose is much more reminescent of the tail of a scorpion than the crane stance, and after her twirl, she looks to her ronin companion beside her,

"Even nearing death you fight well, your spirit is strong."
attack stance attack bakemono 1 with 2 free raises on attack, one free raise on damage and one void point on damage.
