VtM - Disciplines Explained

While this thread is not going to go over the exact specifics of every vampiric Discipline (or its mechanical function), it will give a brief description of what it does, its levels of progression, and which Clans have access to it as an in-Clan Discipline.

Hopefully once this is finished, the players will have a better idea of what their characters are potentially capable of.

Animalsim

Animalism

The Beast resides within all creatures, from lice-ridden rats to powerful Kindred elders. The Discipline of Animalism allows the vampire to develop a close, intense connection empathically with his primordial nature. He not only communicates with empathically with the lower beasts, but also projects his own force of will upon them, directing the animals to do his bidding. Additionally, as the vampire grows in power, he can use Animalism to control the Beast within mortals and even other supernaturals.

Rank 1: Feral Whispers
By locking eyes with an animal, the vampire creates an empathic connection between the two of them, allowing the vampire to communicate or issue simple commands. Eye contact must be maintained at all times, and the animal is not compelled to follow any orders given.

Rank 2: Beckoning
By mimicking the call of the wild (howling like a wolf, cawing like a crow, etc.), the vampire may mystically summon creatures of the specified type. Each animal of the chosen type within earshot are summoned, but each individually chooses whether to respond.

Rank 3: Quell the Beast
By asserting his power over the Beast, the vampire may now subdue the Beasts of mortals, quenching all assertive emotions, such as hope, fury, and inspiration within the target. The vampire must either touch or stare the subject in the eyes to channel his will effectively.

Rank 4:Subsume the Spirit
By locking his gaze with that of a beast, the vampire may now psychically possess the animal. The vampire's body falls into a motionless state akin to torpor while his mind takes control of the animals actions.

Rank 5: Drawing Out the Beast
By this level of Animalism, the Kindred has a keen understanding of the Beast within. Whenever the vampire feels his Beast threaten to overwhelm him and drive him to frenzy, he may instead release his feral urges upon another creature.

Auspex

This Discipline bestows uncanny sensory abilities upon the vampire. While Auspex initially heightened all the vampires senses significantly, as he grows in its power he also becomes able to perceive the psychic auras that flow around him and even project his mind into another being's thoughts.

Level 1: Heightened Senses
This power sharpens all the vampire's senses, effectively doubling the clarity and range of sight, hearing, and smell. While his senses of taste and touch extend no further than normal, they likewise become far more acute. On rare occasion, this talent provides brief flashes of extrasensory or even precognitive insights.

Level 2: Aura Perception
Using this power, the vampire can perceive the psychic auras that radiate from mortals and supernatural beings alike. These halos comprise a shifting series of colors that can be read to discern a subject's emotional state.

Level 3: The Spirit's Touch
By handling an object, the vampire may read any lasting psychic impressions left upon it. These impressions can include who last handled the object, when the object was last handled, and what had been done with it recently.

Level 4: Telepathy
The vampire may now project a portion of his consciousness into a nearby mortal's mind, creating a mental link through which he can communicate wordlessly or even read the target's deepest thoughts.

Level 5: Psychic Projection
The Kindred with this awesome ability may project his senses out of his physical shell, stepping from his body as an entity of pure thought. The Kindred's material form lies in a torpid state while his astral self is active, and the vampire isn't aware of anything that befalls his body until he returns to it.
