Precious Cargo

The strange and deadly Eastlands are where wild elves rule. The fey have gone into hiding, or so it is said, and now only the mortal roam the Eastlands. Good and evil are of no concern. Only survival is important where death can come at any time and from any place.

The Grayscaler rudders are far too small to propel a ship like the Savage Horn. Lizard might be able to salvage some parts, however, and does get the rudder before the ship is burnt. It is not apparant if the rudder itself will be any good for repairing the ship.

Lizard recovers what he can from the Grayscaler ship and then hurries back to the Horn. He helps in tossing the enemy bodies overboard for the sharks, and then helps in setting fire to the ships. He then begins to prep the bodies of the noble sailors of the Horn that fell. He will see to that first before checking the rudder and parts for compatability.
Basically doing all that until the funeral for the sailors.

After Curgas has seen the last of the Grayscalers tossed off his ship, the captain returns to speak with Lizard. First, the minotaur questions Lizard on the findings of the ship. Seeing parts of a rudder brought aboard, the captain asks, "Will that rudder work on her?"

As Curgas speaks, he begins to help prepare the sailors for their at sea burial.

Lizard hisses at his Captain, "I don't know my Captain. It sssshould help, or provide us a guide at least. The hardware from it will come in handy. I can carve a new rudder, I can't forge new bolts and nutsss." The Lizard goes about dealing with the ship, checking rigging, pushing off the enemy ships, and of course skutteling them. He will also see to repairs on The Horn, and will attempt to get the thing to shore where they can careen it on a sand dune and get to serious work.

Curgas issues an "All Hands" call to assemble all able bodied sailors to the deck. There the minotaur begins the ceremony.

The captain begins the procedure by declaring, "All hands bury the dead." At this command, the colors of the Savage Horn are lowered to half-mast and the ship '€" although, moving very slowly '€" is stopped.

Next, he waits for Lizard to call the crew to attention before the formation carrying the deceased sailors passes in front of them. After the formation passes, Lizard issues the rest command to put the sailors at parade rest.

The burial service begins by the captain quoting a forgotten minotaur sea psalm.

No dust to cover,
the grave no man can see;
the tomb is this unending sea,
that lies far below.

Curgas issues the command of, "Present Arms." At that command, the boards holding the bodies of the deceased are raised to allow the bodies to slide off into the ocean. The next command, "Order Arms, Parade Rest" puts the crew back at rest state and the formation returns.

The final command is given, "Firing party, Attention. Fire three volleys" At this instruction, the crew snaps back to attention and three volleys are shot across the ocean.

After the volleys are fired, Curgas gives the crew over to Lizard for dismissal and heads off to his cabin.
Since we don't have cannons, just ballista, I figure three flaming arrows or something might work.

Lizard moves in formation during the funeral. He knows this ritual, too well for his liking. The little lizard is surrounded by an air of melencoloy as the dead are commited to the ocean. The three flaming volleys are fired over the ship into the ocean and he stands head bowed. The funeral is over an Curgas dismisses the crew and dead to his cabin and Lizard takes over to get the ship back on course.

He order the sails to full, he places men at oars to turn the ship in the direction they need and he oversees all other activities to get the Savage Horn into a safe harbor. "Make for land!"
Really just doing siailor stuff till we can get to land and fix things.

Land Fall

Post by TetNak » Mon Jun 19, 2006 7:06 pm

Silaqui helps proside over the rights of the dead, saying a prayer to the Sun to nuture their elvish spirits into the void. Otherwise the woman is quiet and reserved, only speaking when spoken to.

The sailors get the nearly crippled ship ready to push off. Luckily for everyone the shore is relatively close. The skeleton crew slowly pushes the ship toward the shore until the Savage Horn is close enough to lower her anchors.

One of the crewmen asks, "Should we beach her or just lower anchors?" The ship now sits perhaps fifty feet from the coast.

Lizard considers the option of careening the ship, beaching it on a sand bar to do impromptu dry dock work. "If we beach it now, we may not have enough man power to get her back to sssea." He looks over the back of the ship, and assess whether or not he can do the real repair work while anchored in the bay.
Craft Carpentry or Profession Sailor checks? I want to know if its possible to do the repairs while anchored.
He paces the deck looking over at all the various broken parts, and busted stuff taking an inventory of what supplies will be needed. "We wait for the Captain'ssss ansswer."

After the sea funeral, Curgas returns to the captain quarters. There he takes out the bottle of Elven wine ' the "sacred" wine. He chuckles a bit at the thought of sacred drinks, then reconsiders. "All good wine and ale is sacred to me. Maybe those elves have it right, after all."

The minotaur takes several large gulps of the wine as he takes a seat in his chair. His large axe has been tossed over in a corner and he is beginning to feel the scratches left by the Grayscalers. Even though, their attacks were weak, he looks and finds a few scratches and scars.

Several minutes later, Curgas returns to the deck empty handed, but feeling much better than before. "Lizard!" he shouts. "What's going on?"

After Lizard informs him of their situation, he says, "Lower the anchors. I don't want to get caught on the beach, if we have any more uninvited guests. Do we know if there's a reef there or not? I don't want to be running into that either."

Lizard shouts to the man in the crow's nest, "Can you spot any reefs? If we hit something you are the first one the Captain is going to punish!" The Lizard gets the anchor dropped, and the ship moored here in the calm waters of the bay. "We can row to the beach, and set up camp and start our workshop work within an hour Captain. We'll need to send a few search parties in land to find supplies, the right type of tinder, fresh water, and the like but if all goes well we can have her back up and running in a few days, topsss."
