Two Paths Diverge: Mahanaga - Chapter 8

Post by Vardaen » Sat Nov 10, 2007 10:59 pm

Here continues the Mahasarpa: Ascension game reaching into the Eighth Chapter of the campaign. In Chapter Seven we were witness to the Harbingers wartime prowess as they arrived in the ruins on the edge of the old Empire of Mahanaga. They stormed an anicnet forestess, once a human stronghold, it was infested with Yuan-ti slavers. Among the slaves was a strange yogi named Pusan, who would eventually give up secrets of the Mhuktar and change the face of the group forever. Storming the ruined fortress, not once, but twice, they resucued a dozen slaves that had not fallen as Broodguard or Tainted Ones yet. Rhokti, using his new found power to travel through the Void transported the freed slaves back to Bhalluka. While there he learned that the city state of the Great Bear was on the verge of collapse from the Yuan-ti and Lizardfolk invasion. Unable to save their city, the Harbingers hoped to retake this fortress and stormed it a second time battling a High Brahmin of the snakemen, and something far far older. At the top of the ziggurat like fortress the Harbingers came face to face with a Childe of Nagini, an Anathema of such age and power, they feared for their lives. Azora was instantly transformed into a tiny viper and sent fleeing. Undaunted the newly free Pusan transformed himself into the shape of a great white bull elephant and charged the massive 8 headed snake devatta. Somehow he was able to push the Childe of Nagini back and off of the top of the ziggurat, causing her to fall down into a deep abyss never to be seen again in this lifetime.

With the fortress clear, the group stood amove the jungle and peered out over the ruins of Mahanaga, and there spoted the ruined of the Afsar Abranjin Jawali, the Crown of Silver Courage. Three days later they reached their goal. Once more doing battle with Yuan-ti temple guards, the Harbingers were in danger of falling in battle under the might of a giant purple worm that raised itself from the dead while doing battle with a hald dozen abominations and other dangers. A strange foreign mystic came to their aid, and eventually they won the day. The strange mystic turned out to be the yogi that they had been search for for nearly three weeks. The yogi introduced himself as a Mystic of Nog and ancient and destroyed kingdom that once thrived in the Grey Jungles to the west, in a land called Zakhara. They learned many things about the world around them, and about others struggling to put things right since the Night of Nine Flawed Saphirres. They too have learned some about the Mhuktar and Azora's possible role in the world, much to Ghanji's displeasure.

Nakan Prasad, turned to stone, was returned to flesh by the powers of the Brahmin Vivec, and the Muni Vassal of the Prasad family has rejoined the Harbingers with a nasty scar to remind him of his trial of stone.

Deciding that they must seek out answers to two riddles, they have worked out a complex plan that may split the group, for who know how long, but will allow them to search north in the mountains, and south to the sea.

Everyone has just about leveled up, and now is 10th level or higher. You can expect even more difficult combat and challanges. You've all been at this long enough, that I expect you to no longer need any assistance from me. I want to thank everyone for making this the best game on the site!

One more intro post to come.

Asvina the 10th, 1096, Mid Summer - One Day Until the 31st Day Memorial for Brahmin Sharma Variya

The morning has come for the Harbingers to split. Brahmin Vivec and Mantrika Rhokti have both various ways of which to travel great distances at speed. Most have witnessed Rhokti's connection to Durjaya and the Void, but Brahmin Vivec's travel, a gift from the Deva of Travel, is not so familiar.

The groups will consist of those staying here to clear out the temple, and await the others: Shamad, Ghanji, Sujata, Azora, Pusan and Nakan. The other group will travel with Vivec to the far off city state of Laskshmana, where no one save for the Brahmin has been: Vivec, Rhokti & Pazi, Toranoshi and the Mystic of Nog. Of course Rhokti might return here on his own and then once more return to join Vivec with others if they determine they need help.

Everyone is ready, there is little more to be done. Vivec begins to entreat the Deva for safe passage. Unlike Rhokti he does not step through the Void. Instead he appear to open up a portal into one of the spirit realms, a river flows through the portal and as he steps into the river, those with him are wisked away downstream, a few moments later the river deposits the quartet very far from where they started...
Just to keep the game threads linked properly, I started you all together. One post from those going to Lakshmana and then I will begin your own thread.

Pusan arises with the eastern sun. Breathing in deeply the stagnant air of the moat. Forgetting where he was for the moment. He gags on the stench. Finding a heavily shadowed area he kneels and begins to pray to the mighty Khali-ma. Some time passes before his frail looking form rises once again. The hazed sky reminding him of how far he truly is from the temple on top of the great mountian...
...And the stone of the earth and the wind in the sky bowed before the wisdom of the Ancient One...

Azora watches the others step into the river of passage and then proceeds to stretch is back, popping it several times once the portal closes.

Toranoshi watches how the portal opens and glances at the river of passage. Though with a sigh and a simple set of nods of goodbye to those who stay behind to clear out the temple the dhuka follows the brahmin and vanishes out of sight.

Vivec nods to those traveling with him and then begins to cast his spell. As he watches the others go off to fight once more he hopes he has not cursed himself or the harbingers with his choice.

Rhokti looks suspiciously at the portal. Monkeys don't swim. After a moment, he takes a deep breath, holds it, grips pazi by the tail, and steps through.

Nakan Vassal Prasad rises for the first time since his ordeal, though only one day has passed for him, he now finds himself re-united with his friends and commrads, he notes that much has changed in his time away, his friends talk less, and then azora breaks the silence.

"Azora if you would remind me to stay away from women with snakes in their hair...."

There is no humor from the group's leader as he rises from slumber. He rolls of the hammock in the shelter and rubs his eyes. He decides that once this is all done, he will become a heavy sleeper, because the last few months if he gets four hours he considers himself lucky.

Shamad walks from the shelter and watches Rhotki, Vivec, and Toranoshi depart through the portal. To the others, he simply says, "Prepare yourselves." Shamad himself already has put on his armor and secured his other gear.

Sujata rises with the others and begins to ready herself for the day. She is glad to have Nakan back with them and greets him with a wan smile that doesn't reach her eyes. "Welcome back." she says quietly before moving on to her morning prayers and ablutions.
