Two Paths Diverge: Bhalluka Refugees - Chapter 8

Post by Vardaen » Fri Feb 01, 2008 8:14 pm

Here we follow the Bhalluka refugees as the fleed Bhalluka seeking shelter in their neighbors of Singh. On occation the Harbingers come to speak to the High Brahmin Suryakant or to seek refuge from their own trek through the jungles of Mahavana, unable to go home because of the Yuan-ti invasion.

Late Morning on Asvina the 11th, 1096. Today is the 31st day memorial of Sharma Variya's funeral.

*BAMPH*

Rhokti, Shamad, Vivec and Azora along with Pazi suddenly appear through the Void. The Mantrika Hengeyokai Rhokti travels with the blessing of Durjaya swinging through the Void and transporting others with him as he goes. The group appears in the midst of a circle of people. A massive crowd of walking men and woman travel west to east, down trodden, depressed, and tired. They are the refugees of Bhalluka seeking shelter in the city state of Singh many days travel east still. Rhokti has returned to the spot he saw in the pool of water, and where he spoke to the High Brahmin yesterday, but the camp is moving. It appears that the crowd of refugees is traveling around this circle drawn on the ground, a few Devapala stand as the flood gates, directing the hordes of people to avoid this spot because of this exact reason. The Harbingers arrive surrounded, but safe, the High Brahmin is not here, but his Devapala traffic directors are.

Shamad looks around, slightly taken aback. "I will never get used to that," he says, the strange sensation tingling throughout his body. He takes a deep breath and finally gets his bearings. To everyone around him he says, "I am Shamad Prasad of House Prasad. I am here seeking the High Brahmin Suryakant."

The refugees don't seem impressed about Shamad's statement. Most of them are Shuda or Vaishya, Shamad can tell by their appearance. They look depressed, and rightly so, Bhalluka is defeated and belongs to the Yuan-ti, the city's arch nemisis. One of the Devapala nods to Shamad, "The High Brahmin marches at the head of the collum." He points with his vita to the east up at the head of the marching refugees, perhaps a mile or more long at this point. "We were set here to guard this place for your arrival. Come I will take you to High Brahmin Suryakant." The devapala then break off from thier post, letting the sea of refugees swim into the circle and swallow up the safe place.

"Thank you," Shamad says, sensing their overriding fear and depression. He waves Rhotki and Vivec along, following the devapala toward the high brahmin Suryakant.

Vivec falls in line behind the others as they head to the front of the column. Meeting with the high Brahmin shall be a relief for him, as some of the responsibilities in deciding the Harbingers actions he took upon himself, will be lifted.

Rhokti, head held high and enjoying his new usefulness, rattles his way down the path toward the high brahmin man.

The Harbinger and Friends follow along traveling up the line of refugees. Forced to travel on the edge of the group they don't make good time at least not at first. Azora remains silent watching the faces of the down trodden with a bit of sadness. The four walk for a while, slowler moving women and children and men plod along east. From time to time you pass a Ksahitrya or a Shikari armed with weapons, watching for danger, and keeping the people as safe as they can.

At one point there are three Kshaitrya of House Ravi walking together. They look up at the sight of your four. "Good day to House Prasad", one comments as Shamad travel past. It take nearly an hour to catch up with the Brahmin and the head of the refugee caravan. The slow moving train of people is lead by a collection of Brahmin and Kshatriya doing thier best to keep the spirits of the people high; and to keep them same. "Just up here..." the devapala guide points to the obvious group of Brahmin, forced to plod along like everyone else, at the front of the group. The jungle looms on the left, ever threatening to send its Yuan-ti to attack.

Shamad pushes forward as quick as he can. He is eager to speak to the brahmin and find out what must be done now. He waves to those of House Ravi, "Friends, keep faith," he says, hoping to perhaps instill some hope into them, or anyone around, but he doubts it will be effective.

Once he reaches the front of the refugees he looks for the High Brahmin ...

Shamad pushes onwards, and eventually, he spots the Brahmins, and then the high Brahimin himself. The young man looks older, aged by his experiences in the last few weeks. Suryakant folds his hands together and bows when he sees Shamad arrive. "Blessing of the Great Bear on you Saradara Shamad Prasad. Welcome home, as much as this trail through the wilderness is our home now." The Brahmin waves off the other Brahmin to allow the Harbingers and their companions to join him up close. The young man however does not stop walking, and this meeting will have to be done on the march.

Shamad's face contorts into a deep frown. "Saradara?"

He draws into silence as he walks, not even able to open his mouth to offer a greeting to Suryakant.
