Bich'wa and Jambiya - Chapter 9

Post by Vardaen » Mon Nov 17, 2008 8:17 pm

We pick up following Toranoshi only moments after he splits off from the Harbingers while in Medinat Al-Afyal, on the Isle of the Elephant. The group has gone to the Harbor Master, and the Dhuka has slipped off to seek some information in a way that only he can.

Toranoshi stands in the middle of the wharf district, corsairs, Mamluks, and strange and foriegn people swim all around him like the waves of the sea. Out in the harbor the giant blue skinned Genie hauls boats too and from the docks around the dangerous coral shoals. Toranoshi hopes to gather information on his brother or on others of Mahasarpan heritage, for the moment he stands there taking things in.

The young dhuka stands among a sea of people, breathing the scent of the sea and the stink of humankind.

Alone at last.

Eager to begin his search, Toranoshi begins walking, for now listening idly to gossip and checking for a spot his brother might seek - for all the differences in their training, Toranoshi knows how the little monster thinks.

Toranoshi moves about the wharf district for a bit just listening and gathering what information he can from not interacting with the populace. It appears that the Corsairs of the various ships seem to frequent one of two places, Honor's Debt, a coffee house on the east end of the harbor, and another place deeper into the city by a bit named The Ashen Cutlass. Either of these places might be a good place to drop some coin and ask some questions. It does appear that there are not alot of ships here from Mahasarpa, only a few recent ones, not surprising with the ban of the Maharajah in Lakshamana. Any ships that did arrive did so before your's.

Honor's Debt. The very thing for us, Anoop.

Toranoshi enters the coffee house. He's normally loathe to drink something that makes his hands shake, but he will suffer it to learn what must be known.

Toranoshi heads into the coffee house and the smell of coffee is thick on the air, almost too thick, they they are trying to prove that coffee is served here and nothing else. The building is made from the wood of the island like so many other buildings, but this one appears in less repair than most of the buildings you've seen. The ceiling is rather high however, which is good because a thick layer of smoke clings to the ceiling as all around the room men sit smoking large glass hookas. Some of them have more than one pipe attached to them, and several people share in the tobacco smoke. Woman move about the chamber. These woman however are not the type you saw in the cafe, or on the streets, they wear veils yes, but the veils are sheer and transparent. They wear clothing to match, save for pure white pieces that cover their woman't parts both high and low. The girls are adorned with all manner of bangles and jewlery. Several of the grils are doing belly dances at the tables of smoking men. Coins flow from hand to hand, and drinks, other than coffee, are being drunk by the Corsairs here. Toranoshi knows a den of iniquity when he sees one, and this clearly is one.

Toranoshi is no stranger to places like this; in truth he has patronized such places in their time. Now, however, he must be about his business. He casts about for a bar, a place to begin his spending and enquiries.

The room is collection of low tables, one must sit on the floor among pillows and rugs to use the tables, much like the Red Lotus back home. There is no bar, alchohol does not seem to be sold here, and the entertainment is the belly dancers at your table, with the large hookahs to enjoy. Toranoshi looks around the room and can't help but notice two men whispering to one another, tring very hard to look like they aren't looking at Toranoshi. One nods and then stands up and starts for the door, moving around the table to avoid walking directly in Toranoshi's path.

A quick glance around the room shows Toranoshi unsatisfied with his search. Shaking his head and clucking his tongue, he heads for the door. Once outside the establishment, he will close as quickly as possible with the ersatz informant; the dhuka is trained to be faster and fiercer than such men.

Toranoshi turns and follows the man outside the coffee house. Tora is only a moment or two behind the man, but when he steps outside he spots him already considerably down the road, running full out away from the establishment. Toranoshi will have to give chase through the busy street if he hopes to catch the man!

Toranoshi smiles to himself. Finally, a target with spirit! Dodging nimbly through the crowd, he pursues the fleeing man with the greatest speed!
Running, I guess. Jump or tumble if necessary to avoid obstacles that might slow down our prey.
