Chapter One: The Life of a Slave

Enter the world of Athas, where survival is all that matters - a wasteland destroyed by magic and stagnated with frightening beasts and corruption. A world where Law is on the side of evil, and Chaos for the forces of good. Powerful beings known as sorcerer-kings warily guard their city-states while slaves do their masters bidding, both plotting against their peers. This world is a land of harsh deserts and insane wilderness, each twisted by the misuse of magic. These unchecked magics have drained the land of life, that which survives adapting their mind and body to accept the unnatural. This is the land you call home.

Baako dislikes the lull in action needed for everyone to regroup. He knew damned well what he was there to do...earn the notice and respect of his templar audience. The tiny savage puffed his chest up mockingly at the groups behind him, going so far as to take several steps towards them before finally turning around to join his companions.
I wish to perform a flamboyant double move action utilizing tumbling and what not...Overall I want to try and impress the Templars with my skill and ferociousness. Move = NW, NW, and NW. Then N, N, NW, N ending my movement adjacent to Pavek. If these people are looking for good replacements, I assume performance is equally as important as skill - thus I want to try and sell the whole David & Goliath aspect of Pavek and myself to them. Movement will be on the defensive btw.

Okay, I realize now I've goofed on this and every other combat that I've done. Pavek (and all other half-giants) are large creatures and take up four squares. Sorry about that.

Horth moves quickly into position, standing behind Pavek and remaining ready for trouble. His movements are simple and economical.

Baako, hoeever, has a different plan. Knowing that this is as much display as it is combat, the halfling performs a number of tumbles and rolls that are halfway between performance and combat. The effect is both impressive and comical, particularly when he comes to rest holding the front line with a half-giant on his side.
Horth and Pavek up to the rest of the group.
But others have not been so cautious as our heroes. The combat next to them erupts into a furious burst of energy as the men try their hardest to take out the half-giant. But he turns out to be far quicker than they expect and only one of their blows strike home.

Then it's time for the fighting pair to strike back, and they do so hard. The half-giant's big meaty fist swings hard, knocking one man flying. And the mul replies with a kick that downs another just as quickly. Now a single man stands before half-giant and mul, looking none too pleased about the situation.

Then it's time for the fight in front of the group to heat up. First, the fighting team stuck between enemies tries its best to break out of the vise it's found itself in. The dwarf begins by punching in the stomach the half elf that was flanking him. But the blow isn't strong and the half-elf barely flinches. Unfortunately this simply sets the half-elf up for a devastating blow to the head from the mul, and you all hear the crack of bone, though whether it's from the mul's fist or the half-elf's head, you can't be certain. A few more blows pass, but none worthy of a gladiator.

Again, payback comes quickly, though it's not the mul that gets it. Instead, the man and half-elf focus their attention on the dwarf, knocking him down beside his former ally. A few passed comments, and once more, alliances on the field have changed.
Diplomacy check by h3a vs. M2e: 21 (success)
M2e is now M3c
And then the elves spring to action, striking hard against the injured foes, but with only mixed success. One enemy goes down '€" a man with little fight in him regardless, and another barely clings to consciousness. But the elves have pulled back into a defensive position, hoping to make themselves look like less of a target.

Finally, the fight to the south continues. And what a one-sided fight it seems. The dwarf and mul team seems to stand still as the others pound on them. But even without much initiative, they dodge all but the giant's massive blow.

Another few seconds have passed on the field, and twenty-four combatants remain.

Once more, the initiative passes to Pavek, and he must decide who looks weakest of the large group before him.

For Pavek, the next move is easy. There is an injured person standing before him who has withstood one of his impressive attacks. And so, whether for the sake of expediency, completeness, or just annoyance that the person still stands, the half-giant finishes what he started with a second blow that sends the poor man deep into unconsciousness.
Attack H2d. Roll 29 (hit) 12 damage.
I had Pavek move up five feet, since the opponent dropped.
Balderac now moves, knowing that like it or not, he can't do nothing, lest the templars call him out despite the fact that he still stands.
Having Gazziija delay. You have two groups in front of you, and I don't want to be the one to decide who you go after.
Just to let you know, here's how the three in front of you look.
E1c: relatively uninjured; dodging and weaving
E1d: somewhat injured
H3b: somewhat injured

"Curse these wounds!" Balderac can't hold back any more, he knows its do or die or remain in the slave pits. So he leaps to action, limping as he does. He moves around and behind Horth coming up to attack the Elf, all hopes of alliances are gone, and only his own work crew can he count on. He strikes out with a simple kick at the knee of the elf.

Balderac moves slowly forward to attack the large group of elves before them. He knows this destroys any chance of allying with them. But his feelings are mixed. After all, these are the elves that beat the dwarf's newest work team member nearly to death just a few days earlier.

The elf Balderac moves on is cocky. He knows that he's quick and not badly injured, where his opponent is slow and badly injured. But Balderac soon proves that he can be quick when he needs to. It takes him only a moment to see the pattern of dodging the elf is engaging in. Then he strikes and strikes hard. A fist makes contact with the elf's midsection, and elf is staggered, as much by the fact that the haggard dwarf hit him as by the force of the blow.

Once Baako has completed his acrobatic display he quickly surveys his surroundings, calculating his next move. Satisfied that Pavek can hold his own for the time being, the Baako turns to his hulking companion and gives him a reassuring nod to indicate that the tiny savage is pleased with the half-giant'˜s progress.

Upon realizing that Balderac has successfully managed to wound one of the elves, Baako then lets loose a feral howl and begins to charge towards his next victim.

Baako and Horth both rush forward to attack the wounded elf, but his dodging and weaving is just too great. Neither one comes close to connecting.
Baako: move/attack rolled 11 (miss)
Horth: charge/attack: rolled 9 (miss)
Gazziija moves forward reluctantly to stand between Pavek and danger, knowing that should the half-giant fall, the team's position will become all the more precarious. He lashes out at the nearest elf with a claw, drawing a thin cut along the elf's arm.

As he does so, however, Gazziija does something far more important. He calls out to the nearest mul, 'œif we join against the elves, the half-giant will be on your side.' This seems to meet agreement with the mul, who nods approvingly and says simply, 'œagreed.'
move/attack rolled 21 (critical threat) confirm 2 (no crit '€" but yes, a 20 and 1 on the same attack roll) damage 1

Diplomacy check 18 (success)

Then action arises at the next nearest fight. The lone mul standing against a mul/half-giant pair lashes out at the half-giant in a desperate attempt at survival. The blow connects, and solidly. For a moment the half-giant sways in place, clearly stunned by the blow. But unfortunately, for the mul, the half-giant keeps his feet as he and his mul partner lash out. The mul misses, but the half-giant gets his revenge. The enemy mul is knocked back ten feet where he lies crumpled on the ground.
M5e dropped
But the group's attention is directed more to what is right in front of them. The lone half-elf in a sea of elves tries desperately to defend himself. While desiring to flee, he knows that the templars would cast him out for such cowardice. So instead, he fights as best he can, flailing wildly, but at least making an effort.
fighting defensively, rolls a 0 (miss)
Then the new trio of impressive fighters joins ranks against the elves, dropping two injured ones in an impressive coordinated attack.
E1b and E1d drop
The elves, for their part strike are determined not to win, but simply to last long enough to survive. To that end they target not the strong, but the weakest foes they see. One elf knocks the half-elf down with a vicious kick. And given these elves' feelings about half-elves, you suspect he enjoyed it just a bit too much.

The other two elves focus in on Balderac, who even now is only barely keeping to his feet. The elf directly in front of the dwarf aims a crushing blow towards his foe that misses only by the barest amount, pushing Balderac back half a foot as he deflects the blow.
attack Balderac: rolled 14 vs AC 14 (+1) for Lesser Deflect '€" just barely a miss (lucky bastard)
The other elf is not so fortunate, swinging high in a blow that's easily avoided.
attack Balderac: rolled 10 (miss)
Meanwhile, in the far melee, a dwarf faces off against a half-giant, knowing that if he can only take the large creature down, the battle will turn in favor of his team. The blow connects, and it's solidly struck. But the half-giant is relatively uninjured and simply shrugs off the attack, following through with a stunning blow over the dwarf's head at a different dwarf facing him '€" one that threatens his elven companion. The blow lands and the dwarf drops.

The human in this trio, for his part, takes a quick strike at the remaining dwarf, hitting a good, solid blow, before advancing on the mul.

The elf, staggering and unsure on his feet, reluctantly advances towards the mul, taking a wild swing that could only barely be called an attack.
D8c drops, but that's it.
The number of combatants on the field is rapidly dropping, but still the templars haven't stopped the battle.

Pavek moves again, hoping that this mess will all end soon.

Balderac is sweaty, heavily, he has only just avoided being struck, and even then only by pure luck. He prepairs himself for another strike, this time he squares his legs, and shouts, "This one is mine, stay off him guys!" He cocks his arm, muttering to himself, always angry, always trying to keep it inside, his arm begins bleeding from his fist. He might be more hurt than it first appeared as viscious bits of blood drip from his hand.

He then gives a hard upper cut punch right for the jaw of the same elf he's already struck. He knows its now or never, the field dwindling, and the Templars looking on with more attention.
