Prelude: Imperial Incursion

Post by TetNak » Tue Oct 24, 2006 8:13 am

Image Image Nearly two years ago the second Death Star was destroyed. The Battle of Endor changed everything. The Empire, now without Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, began to crumble quickly. There was simply no one with enough political or military strength to keep the Empire from breaking apart. Local governors seceded, planets revolted, and the Rebellion began to drive the Empire from the core worlds quickly. What was once the greatest forced of military might was nothing but a shell of its former self and has slowly continued to lose ground to the forces of the New Republic.

On the moon Yavin 4, Luke Skywalker has finally completed his Jedi Academy in order to bring the Jedi Order to life once more. He has taken a much less active role in the New Republic of late, leaving that to his sister, Leia. Skywalker's students are few, or ten, to be exact. None have any real knowledge of the Force other than that level of a padawan, some have not even begun their training at all.

The New Republic military has a presence upon Yavin 4 as well. Their old base has been rebuilt, but is much smaller in scope and importance than it once was when the Rebellion was at the height of their war with the Empire.

Though defeated the Empire still is the greatest threat to the New Republic. Such is the case currently on Yavin 4. There have been reported, and other findings, of a familiar problem for the New Republic and Rebellion of old. That problem is Imperial Probe Droids collecting information for the Imperial Spy Network and reporting the activities of the New Republic. Such information has led to sabotage and terror missions against the New Republic in various locations and Yavin 4 is a prime target for such activities '¦

The jungles of Yavin 4 are incredibly dense and hot. Many of the New Republic soldiers are taught only basic survival skills but these jungles force the hearty and experienced men and women to adapt quickly. Today is like many others as rain pours from the sky and covers everything.

Sergeant Davar Soldat has been apart of the New Republic Marines for several years now. He is a close-combat instructor stationed at the garrison of Yavin 4. For the last several weeks Davar has been aiding the field marines in locating several Imperial Probe Droids. They have already found one of these droids but were not able to disable it before it self-destructed.

Along with Davar is a man that works for the New Republic as well, though independently, and for credits instead of the cause. He is Corvan Tal and has been instrumental in guiding the New Republic through the jungles of Yavin 4 while hunting these droids.

Currently the pair is alone, split off the rest of the squad, which includes five other marines. The location where the last known signal of a droid was recorded. The rest of the squad fan out looking for signs in other directions '¦

Corvan Tal, or Tal as many a military man will call him, is kneeling in the mud of the jungle floor. He is inspecting a series of marks in the ground. Quiet, he looks up from he ground at the Marine. "Looks like it might have come this way." He stands, tired and hot, and goes into his pack removing a canteen. Taking a sip he licks his lips and replaces the cap. "Its not going to remain light out forever. We need to keep moving." Slinging his pack he takes a few steps to a nearby tree and reaches out grabbing up a blaster rifle propped against it. He double checks the firing chamber, checks the power pack and takes a look down the site just to make sure the jungle hasn't ruined anything yet. "You ready?"

"Always, Tal."
Davar looks warily in the direction Corvan indicates, peering into the rain-soaked jungle to try and catch a hint of the probe droid's black among the verdant green. He knows it's useless to look for movement or an outline when every one of the leaves is being blown in the wind and battered by the rain.
"Why would the Imperials deploy probe droids to Yavin 4? I doubt anyone could weatherproof anything for extended operations without frequent maintinence here. They'd rust, have things grow on them, get attacked by predators..."
He notices a bit of slime on his pistol's barrel, put there despite his careful cleaning by the climate, and wipes distractedly at it as he searches for the droid.

Carvan starts to pick his way carefully through the jungle, moving among he branches, and over roots. "You are correct about that. Anything here for extended periods needs maintence, so these droids must be pretty new. If the Imperial Rement has ricked exposer here of all places they must be looking for something pretty important...or powerful." He attempts to notice broken branches, patches of ground showing drip marks from the run off of the droid, or other signs of passing of the Imperial Probe.

Tal does not find any sign of the droid, but Davar seems to, spotting randomly broken limbs in areas where no man has probably walked for quite some time. It is obvious to the marine something has been here, though how long ago is too much information for his lack of training in such areas.
Tal 14, Fail. Davar "20", Success
Both the marine and scout know quite well the Imperial Probe Droid's range is far greater than theirs, and must be careful from here on out or alert the droid to their presence ...
Yes. You both are well aware of the academy. One of the garrisons duties is to protect it. For questions such as this, keep it in a spoiler in an actual post or PM. Try to stay away from blank posts with spoilers. Thanks

The only target of value I can think of is the Academy...but that's a target of such value that they'd likely send a Star Destroyer or two to check it out if they even suspected it was here. What else might it be?
Troubled, Davar flips the safety on his blaster pistol off. He moves with more stealth than one would expect of a man of his size.

Corvan Tal watches as the other man changes course and beging to sneak through the jungle. He paues in his own search, and moves to check that area, the tracker says nothing if Davar isn't going to, and he to becomes stealthy following the trail while in hiding.

Stepping through the jungle slowly and carefully, the pair closes in on the exact coordinates that were given to them by the satellite defense system orbiting the moon. The sounds of wildlife are nearly overbearing in the jungle of Yavin 4, and the dense jungles makes it nearly impossible to see anything. Davar and Tal attempt to use that to their favor. The two come to a slight incline where they spot the Imperial Probe Droid hovering amongst the trees. The droid seems to be scanning everything around it, but does not spot either the humans only fifty feet away below it.

Tal stops at the ridge where they see the Imperial Droid. He motions towad his eyes then down into the jungle where the droid is hovering, silenting alerting the marine to its presence. He studies it for several moments as he slowly drops to one knee and braces his rifle on it taking aim on the hovering droid.
