Prelude: The Way of the Jedi

Kaath stands alongside the others on the lift. Even though this meeting might be uncommon, the Zabrak understands that the academy must work together with the military in these times of need. 'Soon the Empire will be driven out and the Republic will flourish. We may lay down our arms and look inward.' Kaath contemplates.

Skywalker nods as the doors to the lift close and begin taking the up toward the proper floor. "They will brief us, I really do not know much more than either of you," he says. "They keep me apprised of such things, and I asked if I could bring some of my padawan's along. They agreed, and here we are." Almost on cue, the lift doors open to the main plaza level of the academy. Here the academy connects to many different places, such as students' quarters, the flight pad, and other important areas. Luke starts toward the flight pad. "We will take the shuttle over." There is a faint smile on the Jedi Master's face, as he seems to enjoy piloting any air or space craft.

As they enter the shuttle Nic takes the copilot's seat. He knows there will be nothing for him to do - Master Skywalker is an excellent pilot and this is just a short hop over to the military base. But he appreciates any opportunity to refresh his piloting skills, if mininally. There are never enough hours in the day for training, he has learned. And even just watching their takeoff and landing will be more practice than he's managed in the past couple of weeks.

Kaath takes a seat in the passenger's section as the Jedi Master and padawan move into the cockpit. The Zabrak has spent several years flying around the galaxies working with trade ships, so he is quite used to the ship. Although since he was a child, he never took up piloting or navigating. He uses this time to mediate and work on his newly found force use.

The small shuttle takes off with Luke at the controls. He does not comment as to if he wants any help from the co-pilot, which obviously he does not, but just guides the shuttle into the air and on its way. The jungle rests below the ship, as it passes overhead quickly, but before too long the compex of the old Rebel Base appears. Luke activates the communications link and says, "Echo Base, Commander Skywalker requesting permission to land." There is a slight delay, and a voice responds, "Commander Skywalker, you are clear to land, pad 78.56A. Echo Base out." The ship then turns to the right, and heads toward the pad in question. Luke finds the pad, not even consulting his shuttle's landing chart, and lands the shuttle from memory or from something else.

Kaath opens his eyes as the Jedi Master lands the ship. After unfastening the safety harness, the Zabrak stands and awaits the others before exiting the ship.

Nic quietly follows Master Skywalker as they pass through the military base. He marvels at how busy things are here as compared to the Academy. Solitary meditation has it's place, he thinks. But so too does conversation and carousing. He wondered how long they'd be here, and found himself not upset at the thought that it might be a while.

Kaath follows Nic and the Jedi Master off the ship. The war has raged for as long as he can remember. In fact, he cannot ever remember a time when the rebels were not fighting against the Empire. Holding his head high as a proud Zabrak, he walks behind the Jedi and student.
