Prelude: The Way of the Jedi

The Battle of Endor struck a terrible blow to the Empire. Two years have past, and the New Republic has formed an alliance to destroy what is left of the fading Empire.Luke Skywalker has recently opened his Jedi Academy and the ways of the Force are being taught to others. Not is all well in the galaxy as some might think. Many unknown threats may yet come to light.

Taking advantage of the wild shot, Nic continues his advance, hoping to take a swing at the turret if he gets within range.
Move Action: Move closer to the remaining turret.
Standard Action: Attack turret if I'm in range; move closer if I'm not.

As before, be ready to deflect if necessary.

Nic 24, Kaath 11, Turrets 4
The teenager, Nic, rushes toward the second turret, closing the twenty meters as quickly as he can. He does a fair job at this standing within striking distance by the time Kaath reacts.

Having hit the turret with his last shot, the Zabrak maintains his position thinking that he should be able to make a second shot. He zeroes in on the turret and fires another round towards it hoping to not it out of commission as soon as possible.

Nic 24, Kaath 11, Turrets 4
Kaath attempts to shoot the turret again from range, but the great shot he had earlier does not translate this time around. The bolt flies way wide, the lack of range on his weapon now obvious.
Kaath: Attack: 5 - 4 (Range), Fail
The turret fires at the charging Nic, and unfortunately for the padawan, the turret seems to have calculated this shot correctly. The bolt zips just past the man, only missing because he twists himself out of the way at just the last moment. Nic won't be able to do that again, most likely ...
Turret: Attack 20, Success. Dmg 7 (Vitality)

Nic could feel the tingle of the stun blast as it went by him, only barely twisting out of its way. He'd have to be more careful if he was going to pass this test.

No, he chides himself, I'll have to be more careful if we're going to pass this test. This was not one of his solo tests, the padawan considers. And as much as he wanted to see this through the end, it was enough if he could distract the turret enough to let Kaath finish it off.

But for the time being they were both awake, and he intended to keep it that way. "I'll go left, you shoot right," he shouts, taking a swipe at the turret.
Standard Action: Attack turret.
Be ready to deflect if necessary.

Nic 24, Kaath 11, Turrets 4
The padawan retaliates, swinging his lightsaber toward the turret in hopes to finish it off, or at least present Kaath a clear shot. The lightsaber cuts down into the turret and sparks instantly fly as the top of the turret falls to the ground in a seperate piece from what remains in the floor. Smoke lightly rises into the air and enters into the fan system of the complex.
Nic: Attack 20, Success. Dmg 9. Dead.
"Well done," a voice comes over the speaker system. The voice is easily recognizable as Master Skywalker, even for Kaath, who has only spoken to him a few times.

"Thank you, Master Skywalker," Nic says simply. "It's getting easier to block the blaster shots every day," he adds hopefully, "though I know I still have a long way to go."

Kaath stands and nods at the loudspeaker. Even though this was his first test within the combat arena, Kaath feels that he is not as adept as the padawan. 'Maybe I am too old for this. They speak of children coming into the academy before and not adults.' he contemplates as he looks at the blasted turrets. The Zabrak has some doubts about himself and his combat agility; however, others have informed him that not all potential Jedi excel in all matters.

"Better," Master Skywalker says, "But realize these turrets are not the real thing. They are not even optimized. And most blasters pointed at you won't be set for stun."

There is a short pause, and the forward doors open up, "I will meet you in the fore holding area," the Jedi says, and then the speakers go silent.

Nic bows his head at Master Skywalker's comments. It's all true, he knows. As much progress as he's made in the past year, he knows it's only the first few steps in a much longer journey. He wonders how he would fare against a real turret and is forced to admit that it might not have been as well.

"Let's go Kaath," he says to his companion. "We'll probably get some pointers on what we can do better next time. Master Skywalker tends to be busy, but he definitely knows what he's talking about. He's used these skills in the field and knows the difference between training and the real thing."
