** Chapter 1: Remnants of the Empire **

Seated in the debrefing room are several important, and some less so, figures of the New Republic movement. Tosha Galhn, an intelligence officer, Lt. Colonel Justhen Regar, the XO of the New Republic base on Yavin 4, Commander Luke Skywalker, the Jedi Master of the newly developed and built Jedi Academy, Davar Soldat, a marine seargent, Corvan Tal, a mercenery in the New Republic employ, Nic Antares, a young padawan of Luke Skywalker, and finally the zabrak Kaath Eeth, an aspiring padawan himself.

Recently the duo of Davar and Corvan tracked down an Imperial Probe Droid and disabled it before it could self destruct. In doing so the New Republic was able to retrieve parts of the droid's memory core. It has not taken long for the New Republic agents to analyze the data. They have called a meeting here to discuss their findings.

There is a circular table where everyone sits. Each seat has a small viewscreen and datapad set into the table. On the north wall there is a projector which is currently blank.

Kaath sits silently and awaits the mission debriefing. It is times like this, where the Zabrak accepts that the only way for there to be peace is to battle the enemy in the front lines. However, he believes that the Rebellion must keep close eyes over its leaders so that they do not become as influenced by the dark side as the Empire.

He sits and contemplates the root of power and whether it leads to the dark side or whether the dark side leads to power. Either way the young student realizes, he must be aware of it to prevent himself and others from falling from the light side of the force.

Nic Antares takes his seat and surveys the room around him. He tries to apply some of the lessons he's learned, observing what he can of the people around him. The Force tells us much, Master Skywalker had said. But that doesn't mean you should ignore what your other senses tell you. Your eyes and ears can tell you just as much if you pay attention.

Corvan Tal is a man in his early twenties. He looks more likely at home among the former Rebellion than among a regimented mility base of the New Republic. He wears a blast vest that hangs open, and a helm that matches is place at his feet under the table. Not a big man, comming in under 2 meters tall, and barely hitting the 100 kilo mark he does appear to be able to handle himself. That much is obvious to anyone sizing him up, even without the abilty of the Force to sense things. Proped against his chair is a very clean and well maintained blaster rifle, the weapon is in contrast to his less cared for armor.

Davar, by contrast, is a very big man. With his well-muscled arms, thick neck, large frame, and broad shoulders, he looks like he could wrestle a Wookie and come out on top. He wears an unusual suit of light armor that looks like it was custom-made for him, with a more standard-looking heavy blaster pistol in a hip holster.

Tosha Galhn looks over toward Regar who nods. She stands immediately after and walks to the large view screen, punching a couple buttons on the datapad below. "Today, we captured a Viper class Imperial Probe Droid." A scematic of the droid appears on the screen, "The droids are programmed to self destruct if given time after first contact." She pauses, "We were able to partially capture the droid before it destroyed its own memory core." She does not specifically name Corvan or Davar as those that captured the core, simply continuing.

"This droid was deployed locally ... there is no log or indication that this droid passed through orbit. This means one of two things. That a shuttle passed our defenses and landed on the planet and launched the droid, or the Empire has a presence on Yavin 4." She takes a deep breath, "The objectives of the droid were as follows. Primary Objective: Search for location of Jedi Academy, Secondary Objective: Search for Structural Flaws in New Republic Base."

Davar winces.
"Did we know that they knew the Jedi Academy was even here before today?"

Luke actually answers, the Master of the Academy and one reponsible for its construction. "It is no great secret. We are attempting to spread word the academy exits so that potential students can come."

"Ah. I suppose that's a product of my military mindset- I assumed it'd be a state secret.
Still, that about structural flaws in the base suggests explosives, which is a further argument for an Imperial presence here. Which is bad, bad news.
Was there any record of unusual activity recorded in our defenses that might have indicated a shuttle, and simply wasn't pursued at the time?"

"Has there been any kind of disturbance in the Force that might presage a threat to the Academy, Master Skywalker?" Nic directs his question to Luke, but speaks louldy enough that everyone can hear him. "You've said such premonitions can be tricky at best. But surely you'd have some warning through the FOrce if there were a real danger to the Academy."
