Re: Prelude: Denver
Lucas just trails along behind William, not commenting on the strange bird.

Re: Prelude: Denver
William pushes in through the door of the building, now that he has arrived and looks around to see if there is much of a crowd at this hour. He also tries to get a glimpse of any food out and about to see what he might wish to have.

Re: Prelude: Denver
The nearest watering hole is remarkably unremarkable. It's daytime, so the great majority of the workers are out working, but there are still a few die-hard drinkers here. The food choices are many, as long as you like both potatos AND hamburgers. The drink choices run from Whiskey that might make you blind to Water that will likely do worse than that.
The bird wisely elects to stay outside and not become the third item on the menu.

Re: Prelude: Denver
Lucas just waits patiently for the law man to pick a table and order whatever it is they'll be eaten. Lucas has eaten and drunk many a thing most civilized men wouldn't touch with a stick, so he leaves the meal choice to the man with the money.

Re: Prelude: Denver
William sighs. No real choice here. Can't wait till I can go back home...
He gestures over towards a table in the corner and then approaches the bar, and whoever looks like they'll take his order, and he gives it:
"2 beers and 2 hamburger/potato plates."
Then he heads back over to the corner table, sits down and waits.

Re: Prelude: Denver
The man sniffs, and before long, there is the sound and smell of frying meat from the back. The pair of men sit, and then a bunch of people stand and move to a new table. None of them are willing to challange the black man's right to be there when his companion has a star on his chest, but that doesn't mean they have to sit near him. Before long, the guy behind the counter and sets the two plates and the two glasses (Whiskey, not the requested beer) in front of the Marshall, leaving it up to William if he plans to feed Lucas.

Re: Prelude: Denver
William nods his head at the barkeep. "How much do I owe ya?"
Whatever is spoken as the result is payed, even though it is likely higher than it would be if Lucas were not here.
After the barkeep leaves, the Marshal looks around, taking gauge of how many people are looking at the pair and trying to listen in.
While doing so, he grabs one of the burgers and chomps into it.

Lucas just sits, waiting for the law man to pass the food over to him. If they were alone he might just take, but giving people and excuse to accuse him for stealing isn't a good idea. Even sitting next to a US Marshall.

Re: Prelude: Denver
the Batwings swing open and the a lean man with the star of a deputy steps in. He beelines for William's table. "'afternoon Marshall. I'm Joe. Sheriff said I should go lookin for you. I seen a pack of men goin' north into indian land. Looked sick 'nuff to be dead, all but the one who was ridin' a horse, how looked fine 'nuff."
