Lurking Shadows, Round 2

Post by Bitom » Wed May 09, 2007 10:21 pm

William 25, Lucas 19, Raven 18, Hunts 13, Shadows 12
The priest chants his prayers, but this time, the undead are not destroyed. Raven charges through and jams his spear into one of the shadows, which seems to work just fine, unlike the bullets and arrows. The shadows then turn and flee from the power of the black man's God, and Raven gives one of them a parting shot as it turns and flees through the wall.
Lucas Turning check: 17 (Cleric level +2) = 5 JUST enough. Durning damage: 18 Both Shadows turned and will flee on their turn.

Raven attacks S1: 13 hit for 2 damage

Shadows flee, raven AoO S1: 16 hit for 4 Damage
Things are silent for a moment, then the shadow that has pooled under Hunts-by scent suddenly erupts from under his body. Consuming his corpse in seconds, a new shadow is formed and begins to rise as William reacts.

I'm not sure how you're doing combat time, but here's what Raven plans to do. Feel free to wait until his turn to have him act.
Seeing the shadow erupt from beneath Hunts, Raven rushes over to his brother's side. "Your fell magics may have taken my brother's life," the shaman says in his native tongue. "But you shall not keep his spirit from departing for the spirit world."
Move and attack.

William sees the spear have at least some sort of an affect on the shadow and decides to try to use his knives.

His pistols are put away and both of his knives are withdrawn as he looks around for a method to get him on the other side of the shadow so that he may help in some way.

Lurking Shadows, Round 3

Post by Bitom » Fri May 11, 2007 10:38 pm

William 25, Lucas 19, Raven 18, Hunts Shadow 12
William changes out his weapons and the priest once more calls on some external power to smite the undead before him. Outside the cave, his raven pecks at the flesh of a rotting horse. Inside, Raven has difficulty stabbing the body of his own brother with his tribal spear and the conversion of the man to a beast of shadow completes.

The newly made creature takes its first feeble swipe at his brother, but doesn't make contact.
Magic Missle:
Huckster curse: 26 vs 11, success
50% miss chance: 95, hits
Damage 5

Raven attacks HS: 8 miss

HS attacks Raven: 9 miss.

William quickly assesses the situation and determines that he can't do anything. "Get behind me, priest!" he orders, then waits.

Lucas is next.

Lucas concentrates and calls forth the hammer of god to smite the cursed soul before him. "Welcome this child into your embrace oh lord." Cries the preacher.

Once more Raven stabs at the shadow that was once his brother, heedless of the danger, but wanting only to lay his brother's spirit to rest.

Lucas 19, Raven 18, William 17, Hunts Shadow 12
Lucas moves back, avoiding the shadow's strike at him. As he does so, he summons forth a gleaming longsword inscribed with five crosses to fight in his place. It commences swinging, and cuts off a piece of shadow.

Raven stabs it again with his spear, and both weapons seem effective against the spirit of the fallen party member.
Shadow AoO Lucas: 9, miss
Spiritual weapon attacks HS: 25 hit for 3 damage

Raven's Attack: 17 hit for 8 damage
William, having waited for Lucas' retreat, goes next.

Oops... don't know why I thought it wasn't my turn again earlier... oh well.
Still having nothing really to do, and starting to have second thoughts about this particular section of their journey, prepares his blades, looking for an opening which he can strike at the newly formed shadow.
If I can 5' step and attack, do so.

Lucas 19, Raven 18, William 17, Hunts Shadow 12
William steps forward with his knives, and although he is a blur of action, nothing he does seems to phase the beast in the least.

The shadow elects to ignore the man and turns to the man with the spear: his former brother and the last surviving adult member of his tribe.

The flying sword of god darts in and slashes the creature of shadow into shreds, proving once more that the priest is a useful addition to the group.

Hunts by Scent is no more. His body is gone, but his equipment remains on the ground.
William full attacks: non-magical weapon against incorporial opponent, 100% miss chance.

HS attacks Raven: [1] can't botch natural weapon, miss

Ended the combat as the next successful hit would end it.
