Re: Kar's Prelude

The thought of a mercenary with a stolen lightsaber is enough to quite the nerves of the young thief before going on to discuss further events for the evening. Lon seems hesitant to head out on a job so soon after finishing the last one, but it is Ron this time who speaks his mind. 'œI am hungry,' Ron blurts out and looks to Lon for approval. 'œFine we'll go shopping, but lets make it quick, the longer we are gone the more Fathers going to expect us to bring back.'

Continuing past the original stop the shuttle continues into the market district. While everyone who visits Coronet knows the best shopping is on Starship Row, those who have come to call the city home come to the Market. A street level collection of shops spaced end to end around a covered pedestrian mall and spaced out into a galactic shaped spiral, the Market has nearly every commodity one could find himself needing.

It is late at night in Coronet and many of the shops of the Market have shut down for the evening. The only places to remain open during these late hours are the few quite bars, a couple of convenience shops and the quick-trans port. The grocery, or rather one of several, is located towards the end of one of the exterior spiral arms of the Market and as Karl had predicted, it has closed up shop for the night.

Karl hustles around the back of the Grocery. "When we're in, move quick... there might be an alarm Grab a bag and stuff as much as you can into it... one bag each, then back out. Don't get greedy." He then brings his new 'Lockpick' to bear on the door, cutting at where he presume's the bolts to be.

The snap and hum of a lightsaber echoes briefly down the short back hallway which connects the employ entrances of several shops. Karl then inserts the blade easily into the durasteel framework of the door. The blade responds very differently than previous experiences with cutting tools. As the blade comes in contact with the metal there is a slight bounce, or push back, and even though the blade has no weight or appropriate center of mass, an amount of strength is required to push it into the door. This doesn't prove to be an issue and in a short order Karl has cut the bolts clean out of the door and the mass of it falls free into the room.

Karl snaps the thing off, motions the other two inside, then proceeds with the snatch and grab operation as he instructed the other two.

Karl, Lon and Kad move quickly into the groceries store and each grab a bag. Moving from isle to isle each fills the bag with whatever food stuff best fits their own personal fancies and in a short order of time Lon and Karl meet back up at the rear door. A minutes goes by, then another, and still no Kad. It is Lon who gets impatient first, looking constantly down the hall, 'œWhere is that hog?'

Karl sighs and calls in the door. "Kad! Time's up... we're out! move it or we leave ya!"

Lon gets agitated and starts to shift his weight from side to side as there is no answer from inside the store. Throwing his own loot down he drives into the Grocery. 'œGet your rancor sized ass out here Kad, we don't got time for this!' He calls out as he goes in search of the other thief.

Karl is a little ore timid and 'keeps a lookout' while the other two are still in the grocery.

Karl's prudence pays off when he sees two Core-sec guard walking down the hall. They are quite enough, and Karl is distracted trying to listen for the others in the store so the noise of the two guards goes unnoticed, but when they first round the corner Karl catches sight of them and ducks for cover. Now is the time to decide. With two friends inside the store, two guards approaching from the planed escape route, and little in the way of easy answers; how is Karl going to get out of this one?
Roll(4) + Listen(2) = 6 : Fail
Roll(16) + Spot(4) = 20 : Success

Karl acts as he has been trained to. A friend in need is a liability. All of "dad's" thieves are children with good reason. Children usually aren't held accountable for their actions and aren't punished th way that an adult would be. Karl stays put and gets ready to make a break for it if he's spotted.
