Prelude: Toritaka Yaso

Toturi III is dead. The Empire is left without an Emperor. Toturi's wife, Toturi Kurako, rules as the Empress until her husband's written wishes can be found and acted upon.

With the Emperor dead, others seek to gain power. One such man is the Khan of the Unicorn Clan, Moto Chagatai, who currently lays siege to the Imperial City, Toshi Ranbo wo Shien Shite Reigisaho.

As he approaches the gate, Yaso dismounts and moves towards the samurai leading his horse along with him. when he stands just a few feet from the Scorpion he bows in greeting but leaves it to the Guardian to speak first.

The Scorpion steps forward, holding up his hand, and even through his mask Yaso can tell the man finds his Falcon and Crab mon strange. "Traveling papers?" he asks.

He pauses for a second, "What are the Falcon doing here in Toshi Ranbo?"

Yaso draws forth his travelling papers from his Obi and presents them. He then replies "I have been summoned on behalf of the empress to serve as a Chrystantenum magistrate in the capital."

"The Chrysanthemum Magistrates you say?" the Scorpion says, looking over the traveling papers and nodding. "Very well, Falcon-san, report to the Imperial donjon." He waves to a man on the ramparts who heads inside the tower and starts raising the gate. "Many blessings go with you."

Yaso smiles slightly with the realization that the Chrystantenum Magistrates are apparently not quite as unheard of as he might have thought. "Where might I find the Imperial Donjon Scorpion-sama?"

The Scorpion just points. In the distance can see the massive donjon rising up in the middle of the city. It is impossible to miss.

Yaso is almost ashamed but then bows and follows the lead obviously somewhat at a loss at the enormity of the City.
What's up with the horse? I'd expect that Yaso would have to return it to the Scorpion?

Yaso had used his pony to get to the city. It might have taken him months otherwise. Traveling in the winter is hard when a person has all the right gear and supplies, and nearly impossible otherwise.

The Falcon heads toward the massive donjon, Yaso's bird on his shoulder as he walks his pony along the main road. Mid-morning greets Yaso with cold air, colder than he is used to, as a snow threatens above. There are many samurai moving about in this huge city, especially now that it is expecting war to come any day. Eventually he reaches the outer wall of the donjon itself, finding more Scorpion guarding it. This time when he shoes his papers a man is called to escort Yaso. Out comes a young man, perhaps eighteen, wearing the colors of the the Lion and Akodo.

He bows deeply to Yaso. "Konichiwa, Falcon-sama," he says, "I am Akodo Nobatudo, and I am to take you to the magistrate's office?"

Yaso returns th bow and replies"Konichiwa, Nobatodu sama." surprised that he is now being greeted so formaly. This is the capital after all the Crab thinks to himself and he notices he is now slightly nervous to soon be introduced to his new lord and duty.

Nobatudo clears his voice, "Falcon-sama, can I please have your name, I would hate to be forced to introduce you to the Chrysanthemum Champion without knowing it." The Akodo turns, walking toward the donjon as they speak.
