Lady Yelitzaveta sips the tea, regarding Maul coldly. It seems as if he did not hide his emotions quite as well as he thought, as she says to him, "No need to lie if you don't like it, just don't have any. I didn't bring you here for the tea anyway, but rather to discuss what we are doing. I don't like to be the object of surprises and if you don't know the plan, then I only increase the chances of those ocurring."

She puts her teacup down on the small table, there an old book lies. The wizard opens the book to the front cover, where a small square of yellow, cracked, and folded paper lies. She unfolds the paper, revealing nothing printed on it. She speaks a word, however, in a language that Maul cannot identify.

At this word, a map slowly spreads over the paper, of a location that Maul cannot immediately identify. However, the the mystery is quickly solved, as Yelitzaveta says, "This is a map of the Thar, which leads to the location of a secret monastery of Bane; few people know of its existence, and we would like to keep it that way. The abbot of this place is highly favored by Bane, and has been for a long time. He is, I suppose the proper phase would be, "good terms" with Manshoon, and through my former teacher, he has asked me to bring you to him. Why don't you have a look at the map to familiarize yourself with the route." She reaches out her hand to give Maul the paper.

"I also have been tasked with putting you to a brief test, though that will come in the Thar. There are ruins of an ancient civilization all of the place there, and, in stereotypical wizardly fashion, I have located a trinket I would like in one of them. I will have you retrieve it for me. The ruins have a few standard Thar beasts living in them, nothing that you shouldn't be able to handle. Any questions?"

Questions? Of course I have questions hag. Maul thinks to himself. For instance, why did this mysterious abbot choose me of all people? Not to mention the repercussions I will suffer if Lord Fzoul finds out about this little foray into the wilderness. I pray for your sake old woman that he has already been informed of my departure and knows in his heart that I would never betray him or the Banite Order. The muscular half-orc continues to ponder for several additional moments before finally replying. 'I will restrain from making our time here together any longer than it needs to be Mistress Yelizaveta. I am honored that the Abbot has found me worthy of such a venture as the one we are about to undertake, though I am regretfully at a loss as to why he has deemed fit to choose one so lowly and unworthy such as myself. As for your test, I would like to know more about the item I seek as well as any pertinent knowledge that you may possess about its current whereabouts and any possible guardians that might seek to protect it. I have no further inquiries other than these two topics, though I humbly request that we formulate several additional routes of travel as well as some possible locations to regroup if need be. I would hate if anything was to hinder our journey, let alone force us to become separated.' Maul then studies the map carefully, doing his best to commit it to memory.
Maul is serious in his speech and his mindset is now focused solely on that of succeeding in his quest. Any dislikes towards Lady Yelizaveta has been put aside and he now wishes to be the best at what he does, crusading in the name of Bane. Who knows the old broad might respect and/or admire that about him. Of course, the big guy is always on his guard for the first sign of treachery or deceipt.

Maul commits the map to his memory as best he can. He and Yelitzaveta discuss alternate routes, and manage to formulate one that isn't much more dangerous than the one the wizardress planned herself.

"The item," Yelitzaveta says "is a necklace worn by one of the princesses of a noble house of Illefarn, an ancient elven kingdom. It possesses some enchantments that I will find useful. I do not know how it came to be so far away from the area where that ancient empire once stood, but here it is. As far as "guardians," my scrying has revealed the presence of a few ghasts that dwell in the ruins."

Maul listens to Lady Yelizaveta's words carefully before inquiring. 'The task seems easy enough m'lady. Since this is to be considered a test of my abilities, I pray that you do not think it too forward of me to inquire as if there will be any safeguards provided on our little journey.' The half-orc hopes that his show of cunning and intelligence, not to mention his concern for preparation will impress the sorceress. After only the briefest of pauses, he then continues. 'If by some chance the Abbot has decreed that there is to be no magical assistance on your part, perhaps you would be so kind as to loan me a handkerchief or veil soaked with your cheapest perfume. I feel that this might aid me greatly in my upcoming dealings with those infernal undead, the ghasts. I've heard that their smell is ungodly and I would so hate for their stench to impede me from retrieving your necklace.' These last words, though carefully chosen, were spoken sincere and honest. Maul then awaits the sorceress' reply before dismissing himself to make the necessary preparations to head out on the journey.

Yelitzaveta gives Maul a nasty smile. "I'm afraid all of my perfumes are of the highest quality, Sir Maul. And I am quite confident in your ability to produce unpleasant odors without my assistance. As for other sorts of assistance, I will provide them if I see fit."

After saying this, she turns and motions to Maude and says something in a language Maul doesn't understand. Maude flies over to the door of the study and opens it a crack, beckoning to someone outside. Yelitzaveta says "Part of that assistance is my nephew, Taellyn. I've hired him to help you in this endeavor."
Welcome to the thread, Taellyn. Everyone please post physical descriptions of yourselves.

Walking in is a human of average height, his raven dark hair is long and kept in a pony-tail. He is wearing dark gray leather armor and has a short spear strapped to his back. Turning his eyes to regard Maul, he smiles and says "Greetins to ye."

Maul nods greeting to the dark haired man standing before him. The warrior then does his best to size up his newfound companion as to what abilities and talents he might bring to the table during their upcoming adventure. After several brief moments of speculation the half-orc finally exclaims. 'Well met Master Taellyn. If time permits, perhaps we can sit down and discuss some form of stratagem on how to handle ourselves once within the ruin confines. I am quite curious as to what capabilities you possess and how they would best serve us once at our final destination.'
I have a description written up at home and will post it ASAP. In a nutshell I mainly wanted to know what Taellyn is classwise so I can put together some crude tactics suggestions for us. Also, if at all possible, I wanted to buy a rag and some cheap perfume. I am hoping it might aid us against the ghasts, even if it is a +2 bonus against their stench.

Taellyn smirks and replies, "You can call me a thief, but that is only half the truth. In addition to the mundane stuff, I also have the ability to steal magical abilities. I can literally steal a spell from a caster's head, or the magical abilities and such of creatures."

'Most interesting,' Maul comments. 'Two specialists like ourselves should have nothing to fear on our little journey. That is of course, we assume that your Aunt here has some love for you as her nephew, Hah!' The half-orc then chortles softly to himself before finally concluding. 'As for myself, they call me Maul and as you can see I am first and foremost a warrior knight of Bane. Besides my martial prowess, I am also capable of harnessing Bane's divine favor; channeling it into several specific combat maneuvers. I pray that with our skills combined together we shall overcome the task set before us with no misfortune.'

"Indeed, so when do we begin?" Taellyn nods his head in agreement and asks.
