BC2009: The Great NorthEast carpool

Post by Bitom » Mon Jan 05, 2009 10:26 pm

Figured I'd get this going, too, because I'm thinking about it:

I am likely the farthest south along the East Coast driving to Brencon. I'll be passing the following major cities, which have the following major airports:

Raleigh, NC (RDU)
Richmond, VA (RIC)
Washington, DC (WAS)
Baltimore, MD (BWI)
Harrisburg, PA (MDT)

And of course, Binghamton, itself: BGM

I know that Trog is right on my way, or close enough that we can do a park+ride type thing. Anyone else along the path from Raleigh to Binghamton, or driving up the coast from further south should feel free to post here and maybe we can all save ourselves some money. I'm hoping this will make the difference between going and not going for some people.

I'm coming in from Poughkeepsie N.Y.

This does not bring me past any major airports, but if someone were coming into JFK, LGA (splash!), or somewhere in NYC, and wanted to come slightly north via bus/train. I'd be willing to take them the rest of the way.

The metro north train line can get you from Grand Central to Pough-town for about 15 bucks and 100 minutes.

I only have a VW Rabbit sized car, but there's room for 4 plus reasonable baggage (or 3 and unreasonable baggage).

Hello, pygmaelion, my brother and me would take that offer, if it's still available.
We'd be coming from NYC to the Poughkeepsie (Metro-North station).

Okay Haybusa... You're the first taker, so you and your sibling win.

Considerations:

What kind of time frame are you looking at?
I like to get there early, and stay late... I'd even consider taking a day off on friday and rolling out that morning if you can do it (gotta be there for BrenCrawl...).

What is your/your bro's options for departure time from Poughtown to Bingotown?

Additionally, what's your "Must be Back By" time on Monday?

My car is quite comfortable for me, and the passenger, and just slightly less comfy for the back seat passenger (but he's got a full bench to himself). That said, it's a 3 hour trip in a newish VW Rabbit... Even if you're drought and famine resistant (read: hefty), you should have plenty of room for yourselves, and a big hockey bag full of gear each.

The AirCon works, there's a cd player and mp3 player line in jack, so, as long as you don't have a Michael Jackson Marathon... we'll be cool.

Fill me in on the details, and we'll hammer this out.

Go ahead and PM me here, or email me at Pygmaelion [at) yahoo {dot/ com (remove stupid brackets and replace with appropriate symbols)

So remember when I said I was driving up the east coast?

Yeah, forget about that.

I discovered I could fly in to Scranton and get someone to drive out and get me for under 200 bucks.

Yes, it means sitting in Detroit for three hours.

I can live with that.

Arrive approx 4:30 pm.

Goof off Friday night until 9:45 pm

Drive to Scranton to pick up Bitom and associated luggage. at 11:45 pm (11 pm plane landing, reverse homeland security checks, baggage loss and reclaimation, cavity search... )

and re-arrive at Bingo base at 1:30 am

I will be leaving Bingo base at ??? o clock on monday. I have no passengers at this time, and am planning on heading straight back to poughkeepsie along the rt 17/17k/84East path.

Umm, that could not be correct. Perhaps you have to germans aboard. Which's still to need a confirmation from you. 8O
As I'm currently in the final phase of presuasion and it looks quite good, so I think I'll have some decision by tomorrow evening.
Though I might have to get drunk on another friday with a full jet lag.

Some of this will be easier to work on the chat, might try and get on the chat at some point Hayabusa during 8-5pm EST (Game Time) since Pyg is generally around those times. Just my thoughts.
