After 350 years of blizzards and crushing ice, there is a slight lull in winter's fury, as if Mulcarn is distracted by something. The Children of Kylorin the last great Archmage take up their swords and seek to bring about The Thaw and save mankind!

Chapter 6 - Branch and Blade

Such is the god's power that their will is physically manifested. When two or more agree, that manifestation is even more potent. At the formation of The Compact, a symbol of that agreement was created: a sword inscribed with the mark of each god. Each agreed that if they broke The Compact they would be vulnerable to this sword, which came to bear the name Godslayer.

The Godslayer has been broken in the war between Mulcarn and Sucellus into three pieces and over 300 years those pieces have been moving close to each other. Now they all lie in the area of Letum Frigus, the place where Sucellus was killed, the home of Mulcarn.

Kylorin has gone into this region and has sought out the bands of men that still survive in a battle against Mulcarn and his forces. He has set in motion a plan to reforge the Godslayer and to do what a god had failed to do, kill the God of Winter.

Much has happened. The Children have discovered another sibling, this one named Ronk of the Blood Ram. He has grown up among the Doviello, thinking he was of those people, when in truth his father was none other than Kylorin the Archmage. Finding this barbarian has taken the family on a wild journey from the Ice Graves of the Giants to the roots of the mountain known as The Dragon. Battling Doviello and a Cold Rider the group was forced into a cave at the head waters of a frozen river. An avalache sealed them with, but they soon discovered the caves lead to ancient Nomanhel complex which was itself linked to ancient dwarven fortress.

The Branch of Life, a mytic relic of the Nomanhel and in fact all Anhel was discovered to have been stolen by Charadon Chief of Chiefs of the Doviello. A task was given to them, but not by mortal men, or arch mages, but by Nantosuelta the Faithful the Goddess of Enchantment the Lover of Sucellus and the teacher of Kylorin himself. The branch must be recovered at all costs, for with its loss the Nomanhel are doomed to a cursed life of death and darkness through a compact they made with a spider demon during the start of the Ice Age.

The group pledged to recover it, and continued to battle their way up through the mountain until they came to an ancient dwarven tomb. Riddles and puzzles, monsters and battles, they put the long undead dwarf queen to rest. Onward, to the Doviello and Illian camp outside near to the top of the Dragon. Finding a Seer, Ronk took revenge against him for his slaughtered clan, and freed a Snowmask Barbarian in the process. From there, with the whole of the Doviello alerted, they fled.

Now on the run through the bowl between mountain they make for the Huskarl's Keep atop the mountain known as King's Peak. There they hope to find Charadon and the rest of the Seers and stop them before they can recover and ancient relic of the Huskarl King with which the Doviello Chieftain can use to "Slay the Dragon" (some how defeating the mountain and claiming something for the God of Winter within).

For two days the Children have been climbing up hidden paths, and narrow passes, getting closer and closer to the top of King's Peak and the lands of the Snowmask Barbarians.
Welcome Saeldur, Ronk, Lehros, Ovind, and Egbert back to the game.

Chapter 5 was 2.5 Years Long! So much happened its impossible to recap.

We pick up a day after the last chapter, as you near your goal along the dangerous climb up the mountain.

Ronk walks close to the Snowmask barbarian and asks, "There?" as he points at a portion of the mountain above them. "Tribe go there?"

Egbert climbs along without wasting breath on many words, staying at the front to keep an eye on the Snowmask and to be ready for trouble. For now, he lets the others do the talking.

Brundaar nods to Ronk, "Snowmask live atop The King's Peak. We guard the ancient ruins of our former king. Long have we been there, for hundreds of seasons. Till Charadon the Wolf comes, till the Winter Princes attack us. Now, now there are not many Snowmasks left." He thinks on it, and frowns, "Perhaps I am the last of my tribe." He stops, and takes a look around, "This way, almost there."

He takes a turn and starts through a narrow snowy pass. The pass levels out, and you are soon moving between two high rocky clefs on either side. The canyon is filled with ice and snow. A silences falls over the group, wind blows down the canyon, eyes rise to the top of the cliffs where danger could lurk around any tree or behind any rock. Brundaar strides forward with confidence, his stolen spear in hand he motions at you silently and lifts his eyes to the ridges.

At narrow points or when the landscape offers lots of hiding places, Egbert searches for evil. Else he just stays watchful and is ready for trouble. Right now, he also checks the ridges for evil.

If Ovind had not grown up in snowy wastes like this, she is sure she would have collapsed by now. Between the elevation, cold, and exertion, lesser warriors would have fallen by now. But the Children of Kylorin are made of tougher stuff. "I must admit, I would have been happy flying up the entire way. One of these days our luck is going to run out, and we'll be buried under an avalanche, and even my fire magic won't be able to save us." Morbid thoughts, but it often feels like Winter is sapping the life from even the world itself. Perhaps saving the Dragon might help turn the tide.

Ronk puts a hand on Brundaar shoulder and says, "Ronk last of Blood Ram. If Brundaar tribe is gone, Brundaar welcome to join our tribe." The barbarian stands and looks towards the peak.

"Nothing to sense, for the moment." Egbert states. "At least no evil." He is leaning on a rock and breathing heavily. The tall, lanky man is stronger than he looks and rather agile and tough, but nevertheless, a climb like this will get him out of breath. He scratches his red beard with a gloved hand and then moves on, ready to face any threat.

"We should remember the vision I had at the beginning of this quest," Saeldur says. "This is how I remember it went:"

The Godslayer shard lies within the boarders of the Doviello land, guarded by the great dragon. You must scale the Dragon to recover what you seek. Look for aid in a bloody sheep, alone among the wolves, lost and ignorant of who he is. He has lost his father twice. His revenge will lead you on the path, join him, and in aiding him aid yourselves. A final earthly resting place will give you the weapon you need to scale the Dragon. There is a time for stealth and a time for boldness in all places choose them wisely.

"Perhaps this is a time for stealth."

"So the Doviello are looking for Godslayer? We must get there first." Egbert says.
