Prelude: A seven-pointed star

It is the year 3010 of the Third Age in Middle-earth. One after another, ancient horrors awake, called by their master, Sauron, the Lord of the Rings. This is a time when heroes are needed, to protect the Free People and keep the evil at bay. This is high fantasy in a setting where there is low obvious magic using the HARP system.

"The writing is Quenya, but the langauge is not." He looks down the trail, and realizes the trail is atleast five days old. He tucks the broach into his pocket, perhaps the others will have some answers to these riddles. "I better keep moving." He turns from the old trail and hurries along on his way to his goal and perhaps someone that can read the language.

Vardanil continues on his way. His path begins to ascend a bit and the going is getting tougher. It is no wonder that the rangers chose this far off place as a meeting point. Vardanil hopes to find some information there, a message from other rangers or even some of his companions.
Skillfully, he strides through the thoryn raspberry bushes until he comes to a rocky wall, about 30 feet high. From the top it is only a short way to the summit.

The young man stops to pick a raspberry or two and delights in the sweet taste of the small fruit. He climbs the hill, and has put his bow away along time ago using both hands to clear a path for himself. Doing hsi best to leave no trail he pauses at the rocky wall. Listening for sounds of others he is silent for a while, just standing there looking back out over the way he came before he will move on.

Vardanil hears nothing but the birds and the bees and the notorious neeker-breekers. It is late afternoon and the sun is still burning down. Pen Drebi, however, is heavily forested with lots of undergrowth and so it gives a bit of protection from the sun. Insects are buzzing around, (normal-size) wasps are sitting on raspberries and Vardanil even hears a rabbit scurrying away.
There is nobody following him and after a few minutes, he ponders how to climb the rock.

Looking up the rock he considers his options, he speaks to himself like he is used to doing when out alone. "I don't think I can scale this." He knows others must get to the top of Pen Drebi without using rope and grapplings hooks, so he starts the long walk around it searching for a path that will take him to the top.

Then he stops, and lifts his head up, cups his hands to his mouth and makes a strange wild bird call, out of place for the area, but as natural sounding as he might, If anyone is up there, maybe they can lower a rope.

Make bird call, a survival forest roll:
rolled: 66+45=111 (he suddenly thinks of birthday parties and fireworks): success.
His bird call sounds very natural and echoes around the rocks. He listens, but he can hear no answer. He starts walking around to see where it might be easier.

The rock wall is not a sheer cliff, there are a lot of roots sticking out and rocks and ledges might give him time to rest on the way. As Vardanil is strong and agile, he may be able to climb it even without training. But perhaps there is an easier way up further on?

Vardanil spends a little while, perhaps twenty minutes, searching for an easier path up. Moving brush, and looking for a path that the others might use ona regular basis. Finding none, the young man tightens the laces on his boots, humming a birthday tune, and starts up the hill using the roots and rocks to do so.

Sorry for the delay, I was offline for a few days. Also,no further posts from me until wednesday as I cant access a pc.(I will also finish Egbert then.)
Vardanil climbs:
Heigh of cliff is 40 feet here, you need 400% to complete. It is easy however, +20
51-5+20=67 - 60%
34+15=49 - 40% (100%total)
46+15=61 - 60 (160%)
40+15=55 - 50% (210%)
76+15=91 - 90% (300%)
09+15= 24 - 20% (320%)
52+15=67 - 60% (380%)
01+15-37=-21 he falls
Can he hold himself on a root: QU+AG
roll 64+15= 79 a 70% chance. roll 53, succcess.
He glides down 1d10, i.e. 6 feet. He is at 32' now.
52+15=67 60% (380% total)
51+15=66 60% (440% total).
(This is a lot of rolls, but I wanted to show you the system).
Vardanil climbs up the cliff, still humming a song. He scales up slowly and steadily, making up his lack of training with agility and concentration. When he gets almost to the top, he slips and falls, but he is able to grab some roots sticking out and can hang on to them. Then he resumes his climbing, finally reaching the top. From here, it is only a few minutes to the summit of Pen Drebi.

Climbing up the hill Vardanil is making good time when suddenly a rock slips from under his foot. He looses his balance and starts to slide back down the hill. "Gah!" He grabs for a root and swings slightly from side to side as he grabs hold, ripping opening his hand from the strain. Pulling himself, muscles buldging, veins straining against the skin, he gets back to solid footing. Breathing heavy the young man notes that he needs to practice climbing a bit if he gets time in a safe enviornment. "Not far now, come on Vardanil." Up he goes, not giving up, and he is rewarded with reaching the top.

Panting hard for a few minutes he scans the area and then starts up the trail to the summit of Pen Drebi moving a bit brisker pace now that he's on easy ground. Almost there...

After a few minutes, Vardanil arrives on the top of Pen Drebi. This is a clearing in the forest, and in the middle there is one of the ancient standing stones, erected by some long lost people that lived here long ago. No person can be seen here at the moment. Perhaps someone has left a message?
