Sir Jonathan Exeter, Bt.
Trogdor's Character

Description: Born as the grandson to the Duke of Exeter in Britain, an important family with ties to the Fae, Jonathan Exeter could have expected a life of promise. But being the seventh son of a the seventh son provided even more. He was given up to the Seelie Fae as a child fourteen years ago just after the rise in power of Queen Mab, and has only just been seen again, a young man in possession of profound abilities.

Sir Jonathan is twenty-one years old, though he carries himself with the grace and confidence of someone older. His dress is that of a well-to-do Briton, though he carries no sword or pistol. He does wear a ring, however, that marks him as a trained magician and a member of the Arcanum Institute, one of Germany's prestigious mystical societies. This status is emphasized by the small winged pixie named Jack, who serves him, a relic, no doubt, of his time with the Seelie Fae.

Tale: In ages past, or so the story goes, a young man named Exeter saved the life of a beautiful faerie. The faerie not only blessed the Exeter family with good fortune evermore, but was so taken with her savior that she fell in love with him and wished to be wed to him. But her protector would only allow this under one condition. Exeter must agree that in their time of need, the faerie could call upon his family for a task. And whatever it might be, they would agree. Such were his feelings for his faerie love that he agreed immediately.

Since then, the Exeter line has always been blessed with good fortune, the friendship of the faerie, and the benefits of having a bit of faerie blood running through their veins. They grew strong and powerful in the lands that would become Great Britain, ultimately rising to its greatest heights when the Exeters received a dukedom that became named for them.

Jonathan Exeter is one of the latest in that long line. He was born twenty-one years ago as the grandson of the Duke of Exeter, the seventh son of the duke's seventh son '€" the first time such an auspicious birth had happened in the family. All knew that young Jonathan was destined for greatness. For a seventh son of a seventh son was always blessed with great magical power.

For seven years Jon enjoyed an idyllic existence. But all of that changed with his seventh birthday. Even as word was coming from London about how the wicked Mab had ensorcelled the King, a representative of the Seelie fae came to Arundel Castle, ancestral home to the Exeter family. For hundreds of years there had been friendship between this family and the faerie. But now was the time for payment of the debt of old. A seventh son of a seventh son had been born. And for seven years he had been left with his human family. But now he was needed by the faerie. And if they would abide the old agreement, the Exeters would give up the boy to the faerie.

There was much consternation, and no small amount of tears. But in the end, the old oaths were met, and the boy was handed over. No more was seen if him in the lands of men for twice seven years. In that time, the fortune of the Exeter family suffered as it had not for centuries past. With the rise of Queen Mab, the Exeters '€" long known to be friends to the Seelie fae '€" were made virtual outcasts. Though the queen was not so bold as to cast out one of the nation's highest nobles, there was much she could do. In response, most of the family fled to a self-imposed exile on the continent, where they work as they may to free their land from the tyranny of Queen Mab.

It was to this situation that Sir Jonathan returned six months ago. He had spent the time since his departure in the Dreaming, though he would speak little of those years. What is clear is that time has passed differently for him since he's been gone. By the calendar, Jon is in his late twenties, though his eyes betray an age beyond that. He has hinted that more than just fourteen years passed for him since his departure.

What is clear, however, is that while in the Dreaming, Jon learned much about the power he wields. He has returned a master in both the Faerie magic and the magic of his own people. And his auspicious birth allows him to control both with a keen ability.
