The Great Diamond Operation

[Hayabusa]

Recognizing CiCi outside, Spart opens the cargo holds door.

"Welcome back, ma'am," he greets her. "Didn' think you'd be back so soon."

[Cattywumpus]

One of the men approaches Spart and says, "We are the mechanics Miss Chen told ya about. C'n we come in?"

[Hayabusa]

"Er... Ah can't remember anythin' about mechanics who should come here, although Ah recognize the woman, who's welcome aboard," Spart says, considering drawing his sidearm. "Maybe you can tell what're you supposed to fix on the ship."

Spart gets the bright idea to find out if they actually are mechanics and tests their knowledge about the ship.

"Let me guess," Spart says. "You're here 'cause the hydrogen-converter needs a replacement couple for the magneto-hydrodynamic generator. Ah've told the Capt'n a million times that we need to fix it or sometime soon the containment jacket can't absorb the increased neutron-flow. Yeah, as if Ah want to fly on a glow-in-the-dark deathtrap. And if you're not you can head for the closest bar, or however you call it on Ariel, 'cause Ah'd rather fix that before we all get treated for some secondary radiation effects."

[Cattywumpus]

"err....", the mechanic gets very confused, " Um, well Miss Chen said we was to put in this new autopilot on account of firing Petr for just being too weird."

[Hayabusa]

"Too weird, man you gotta be kiddin' me. He's as normal as you 'n me," Spart says, not sure to laugh about the 'mechanic' or be angry for his attempt to fool him. "And Ah think Ah'd know if someone wanted to make some changes to the ship. After all Ah'm the mechanic on this ship and the Capt'n or Miss Chen would've told me. You better get lost now."

Amelia is just walking up at this moment. When she first saw the men, she had a moment of panic, but it quickly turned to relief when she saw Cici among them--though she also felt a sharp pang of resentment when she saw how they were fawning over the Companion.

She catches the last bit of this conversation. "Hold it, what? Autopilot? Petr fired?" She looks at her mechanic, somewhat flustered. "They say they're here on behalf of Ms. Chen?" When Spart nods his confirmation, Amelia pauses to think. "Well, they might be. I was just talking to Ms. Chen and she didn't mention anything about them, but she also hung up pretty abruptly." She peers at the mechanics. "How did you get word of this assignment?"

CiCi is not oblivious to the reactions to her station by those around her. She looks at the captain and says, "It is a pleasure to be back. I would love to have a cup of tea with you when you have a quick minute."

She hopes the captain picks up that she might have something important information.

Amelia looks at CiCi and nods tightly for a moment, picking up the Companion's request, then turns her attention back to the men claiming to have been sent by Ms. Chen, waiting for their reply.
