Chapter Two - A Shortcut Across the Bay

The first Savage Tide has already touched the mortal world, yet none who live today recall this terrible time of red ruin. It swept over an ancient city, transforming beggar and noble, merchant and thief, resident and visitor, one and all into feral, ravenous fiends. What took the ancients hundreds of years to build came crumbling down in a matter of days. When the final ripples of the tide faded, only ruins remained.

Now, after a thousand years, the hidden architect of the Savage Tide gazes upon new targets. This time, the doom will not be limited to one hapless city. This time, all of civilization is perched on the shore, blissfully ignorant of what the tide is about to bring in.

"Chanur! Get him! He is trying to summon something to aid him in his fight!" Wavedancer frowns as he misses, "Stab him, quickly!"

Daring Rescue - Round 3

Post by Trogdor » Tue Jan 18, 2011 11:34 pm

Chanur moves forward and presses the attack. Warned by Wavedancer, he stabs foward at the bullywug's gesturing arm, piercing it straight through and nearly incapacitating it. Bua Gorg screams out in pain at the strike, losing all thought of anything but the pain for the moment. The spell, half finished when Chanur struck, dissipates before it can be completed.

Lavinia shouts, "well done, Chanur," then rushes over to cut the bonds holding the attractive ranger. He rises from his seat, with a two fingered salute to Lavinia, and rushes to the pile of weapons and armor. The half elf struggles in his bonds, but realizes he'll have to wait for Lavinia to free him as well.

Things seem to be going well for the escape plan. But at this point you hear the tromp of feet on the stairs. Help in on the way - and probably not for the escapees.

Wavedancer and Chanur, facing a dazed opponent, act again.
Chanur moves W W and attacks (Bua Gorg doesn't threaten any spaces since it's casting)
Attack roll: "19", possible crit; 22, confirmed, 16 damage! (Max on both rolls)
Punctured: double damage and target is dazed for 1 round
I'm calling a dazed condition an automatic failure on concentration check. Perfect crit at the perfect time.
Round 3: Wavedancer 23, Bua Gorg 21, Chanur 18, Lavinia 13, Tolin 12, Zan 6

Characters in bold have already acted this round.

Effects
Wavedancer: Mage Armor (3+ hours)
Bua Gorg: dazed until its round 3 action
Bua Gorg: -34

Knowing we need to finish the priest before his friends arrive to help him, attacks again.
Does being dazed make them flat footed and able to be sneak attacked? If so I do, if not normal attack.

Wavedancer yells to Chanur, "Hurry, we have to find a way out!" He actually waits a bit, trying to see if Chanur finishes the bullywug off or not. "Is there any rope in here?" He looks at Chanur to see if he can tell if the man is carrying rope or not.
Delay until after Chanur

Chanur carries no rope currently.
"Try the rope that is holding the prisoners!"

Alas, Daze does not deny the dazed person their Dex bonus, so no sneak attacks. Besides, the daze ends on its action, right before Chanur acts.
With Bua Gorg distracted by the pain in its arm for a moment, Chanur is able to press the attack. Unfortunately, the angered bullywug priest is being more wary of the sailor's rapier, and Chanur is unable to make contact again.

Wavedancer, having paused to see how Chanur fared, springs to action.
Chanur attacks BUa Gorg: 13, miss

"See if you can find something to help us lower down from the window!" Wavedancer calls out to the former prisoner. With Chanur missing, he has to help take this bullywug down.
How long did it take us to get to the city from the cave? Hours, a day? I'm trying to figure out if my spells used is correct or not. Either way...
From Wavedancer's hands two orbs fly forward, dodging Chanur, and crashing into Bua Gorg.

It was about 16-20 hours traveling. Your spells should have reset before returning to Sasserine. So you've used, I think, three 1st and two 2nd level spells (Mage Armor, Color Spray, MM, and two Acid Arrows). I've adjusted your records accordingly.
Looking to end this quickly, Wavedancer casts one of his favorite combat spells, again summoning two orbs of force that slam into the bullywug priest. They slam into the injured creature, but it still stands.

Lavinia leans down and cuts the half-elf free, then moves over to check on Kora. The half-elf immediately leaps up and moves over to the pile of weapons and armor.

Meanwhile, the human leans down and picks up a longbow and an arrow. "We can't abandon the manor," he says to Wavedancer, firing off an arrow at Bua Gorg. "Two of my people are still in here. We've got to rescue them." His shot misses, however, as he was being careful to avoid Chanur.

Lavinia echoes the man's sentiment as she looks down at her housekeeper. "I'm afraid Kora's not going anywhere soon," she says. "We need to retake the manor so we can get her some healing. There are five of us here, and once we have ourselves armed and armored again, we won't be easily taken again."

Just then, the slapping footsteps you heard reach the door and someone tries to open it. Finding it jammed shut, whoever is out there tries to force it. Chanur's makeshift wedge holds, for now. But from the sound, there's more than one bullywug out there looking to get in. And the door won't last forever.

The bullywug priest understands this, and clearly wants to help it along. Disengaging from Chanur, he practically leaps over the desk and rushes towards the door. He passes by Wavedancer, who can't do much, and Lavinia, who takes a swipe with her rapier, delivering a small cut, but no more. Bua Gorg reaches the door, bellowing in a strange language. He sees the dagger blocking the doorway, but doesn't yet have time to do anything about it.

Chanur, deprived of his foe, acts, as do all of the others.
Wavedancer fires MM at Bua Gorg: 6 damage

Lavinia frees Zan

Tolin rearms himself and fires an arrow at Bua Gorg (-4 into melee): 9, miss

Bua Gorg withdraws from Chanur and moves to door
Wavedancer has no weapon out, so doesn't threaten the square it passes through.
Lavinia AoO vs Bua Gorg: 18, hit for 4
Round 4: Bua Gorg 21, Chanur 18.9, Wavedancer 18.8, Lavinia 13, Tolin 12, Zan 6

Characters in bold have already acted this round.

Effects
Wavedancer: Mage Armor (3+ hours)
Bua Gorg: -44

Chanur seeing his opponent trying to get away from him pursues.

"Fight like a ma....err frog!"
Move E-7 spaces, then S-S. I will continue to attack when able.
