Chapter Four - Here There Be Monsters

The first Savage Tide has already touched the mortal world, yet none who live today recall this terrible time of red ruin. It swept over an ancient city, transforming beggar and noble, merchant and thief, resident and visitor, one and all into feral, ravenous fiends. What took the ancients hundreds of years to build came crumbling down in a matter of days. When the final ripples of the tide faded, only ruins remained.

Now, after a thousand years, the hidden architect of the Savage Tide gazes upon new targets. This time, the doom will not be limited to one hapless city. This time, all of civilization is perched on the shore, blissfully ignorant of what the tide is about to bring in.

Fin sighs as the statue comes to life, weary and ready for rest that has been denied. He moves around the fire in the center of the room and hurls his trident at the golem, hoping to find an opening amongst the writhing tentacles.
Fin is hasted and has plenty of movement available, so he'll move around the left side of the fire (to stay out of the giant Berek's way), and attack by throwing his trident

"Oh shit!" Daerith waves his hand before him shouting a few arcane words over the crackle of the fire behind him, "Pinguis lubricus, lapus lapus lapus!", as he finishes a thick coating of grease covers the ground below the things feet, hopefully causing it to slip and fall over. He then does a standing backflip over the flames landing on the far side behind them so the thing can't knock him into them.

Hasted as he is, Fin wastes no time. The priest of Procan rushes forward and hurls his trident at the statue. Unfortunately, the three-pronged spear just bounces off the creature's stony skin.

Daerith then tries to trip the golem by summoning grease underneath it. But apparently standing still on a pedestal for so long has trained the golem to stand upright, for it doesn't fall down. Showing some prudence, Daerith then does an impressive standing backflip over the fiery pit to land on the far side.

Wavedancer moves back to get a good shot and then calls upon his inner power to shoot a huge blast of lightning at the animated statue. Blue cracking energy covers the golem, causing cracks to appear in its form. But it's still up and fighting.

Then the golem moves forward, whipping a tentacles at Berek. It strikes true, and the dwarf is pushed back a few feet by the strength of the blow. But he's received much worse in the past.

Chanur moves forward to attack the golem, deftly avoiding the creature's tentacles. But in ducking under one tentacle, the swashbuckler misjudges the distance between him and the statue, and managed to smash his head into the stone creature, dazing himself for a moment.

Berek, Fin, Daerith, and Wavedancer all have a chance to act.

Fin glares at the statue and hurls his trident again, harder this time in an attempt to pierce its rocky hide.

Assuming that I can attack at 10 ft range, not sure if higher ground might be a problem here if so I'll take a 5 foot step. Activate Ranger's Focus, Rage.Full attack Golem. No Bull Rush as that might get Chanur in trouble.
Berek sees that his captain might be in trouble and hurls his monstrous self forward and hacks and slashes at his massive foe with reckless abandon.

Daerith looks at the statue, he is limited on his magic at this point so he tries it again, maybe he will get lucky. "Pinguis lubricus, lapus lapus lapus!" He puts the grease all over the feet and stone under the statue. It had slowed it down some, saving it from charging at Berek.

Then he moves to join the fight, tumbling into position.
Grease: Under it.

Move: Acro to avoid AoO: E, NE, North a bunch, with Haste and Boots, etc, I'm totally fine on movement. Puts he Flanking with Chanur.

Remember the Haste, extra attacks for people, and my Mirror Images when it attacks me.

Lemorian Golem - Round 2

Post by Trogdor » Mon Dec 09, 2013 10:28 pm

The enlarged Berek sidles up to the golem and strikes with axe and shield. He hits three times, but despite the power in each hit, the statue still stands and fights. Clearly it's protected by some magic that makes it stronger than mere stone.

Fin once more tosses his trident. But the skin of the golem is just too tough, and he can't seem to pierce it.

Then Daerith once more tries to hinder the golem by summoning more grease beneath it. But unlike the previous time, now the golem is overextended. It slips over to the side, makes a feeble attempt to right itself, then falls to the groups with a terrible crash.

Wavedancer acts right before the golem.
Berek full attacks golem (ranger's focus, rage, haste): 34; hit for 16 (-10 DR) = 6 / 22; miss / 28; hit for 21 (-10 DR) = 11 / 34; hit for 20 (-10 DR) = 10 / 31; hit for 21 (-10 DR) = 11 (38 total damage)

Fin attacks with trident again: 13; miss / 8; miss

Daerith casts Grease under the golem
Ref save (DC 17): 9 falls prone (Grease - good up to level 20!)
Daerith moves up to give Chanur a flank.
Acrobatics check to avoid AoO (DC 29): 36; success
Round 2: Fin 18, Daerith 17.7, Wavedancer 17.4, Golem 15, Chanur 11, Berek 8, Urol 1

Effects
All: Protection from Electricity: 60 points each

Berek: Protection from Evil (+2 Deflection AC vs. evil creatures, immune to mind control)

Lemorian Golem - Combat Over

Post by Trogdor » Wed Dec 11, 2013 9:17 pm

MK is dealing with a move, so I'll post for him.
Deciding not to mess with a tactic that worked, Wavedancer calls forth another bolt of lightning that he sends flying toward the golem. This one isn't quite as effective as the previous one. But it still causes chips of stone to fly off of its target.

The golem, not bothering to get up, flails its tentacles at the biggest threat attacking it. Two strike home, hitting Berek across the chest and one arm. Where the tentacle touches his arm, the flesh begins to rot and turn gangrenous from the unholy contact. Worse still, the second tentacle gets a grip on the dwarf, wrapping him up tightly.

Chanur then moves in for the kill, Daerith distracting the golem so that he can get a sneak attack in. His first stab with the rapier is placed perfectly to cripple the enemy. But once again the construct's tough exterior turns what would be a devastating blow into a mere scratch. But the captain's second strike proves more effective. Targeting what he perceives as a weak spot just over where the heart would be on a living creature, Chanur strikes true, slipping the blade into a small crack that has formed there from a previous attack. As the blade enters the crack, Chanur pushes it to the side like a lever, trusting the magical strength of the blade to stay together. As he does so, there is a terrible -CRACK- as fissures start to spread from the point of attack. Quickly these fissures pass across the construct's torso until it shatters to pieces, settling as only so much rubble on the ground. Immediately, its arms and tentacles stiffen as they return to solid stone, falling to the ground where they too shatter.

Berek still wrapped in one of the tentacles, easily shatters the now-brittle stone and frees himself.

The group feels relief as the lemorian golem is destroyed. But more than that, they feel a terrible, oppressive aura that had been hanging over the whole area fade, almost as if a weight had been lifted off of everyone's shoulders. Fogmire is at last truly free of the force that had oppressed it.
Wavedancer casts Lightning Bolt: 27 damage
Golem's Ref save (DC 20): 22; success - takes 13 damage

Golem attacks Berek (-4 prone): 19 miss / 31; hit for 12 / 30; hit for 11 / 23
Berek has to make 2 DC 16 Fort saves: 17; "1" - one success, one failure.
Rot: Berek takes 1d4 (3) Con damage as his flesh rots and turns gangrenous
Free grabs: 27, 31; Berek grappled

Chanur attacks (+4 prone, +2 flanked): "18" = 39 (26; crit); hit for 18 (+7 SA) (-10 DR) = 15 / 31; hit for 7 (+6 SA) (-10 DR) = 3
(total damage = 18 pts)
Heart Shot: Triple damage and 1 Con Bleed (immune to bleed)
(I swapped the attacks since it was more dramatic to kill it with the crit)

Well, that was an easier fight than I thought it would be. I thought that since none of you could get past the creature's DR, it would take you a long time to whittle it down. But I didn't count on Wavedancer and his lightning bolts, which cut right through the defense. That and those damned Grease spells. What a pain in the ass those were. :P

Berek feeling as miserable as he has been in a long time, climbs out of the massive golems clutches. Then the gigantic Dwarf looks to his companions a weak smile on his face.

"AY! Good work crew! We showed em who's the true masters of fogmire!"
