Theme - Religion

Post by Vardaen » Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:36 pm

The gods of Erebus consist of a great pantheon of gods that create a balance between them. After the creation of The Compact, a divine agreement between all the gods, they have not set foot on Creation for fear of destorying it, and destroying themselves. They do however gain power from their worshiper and grant spells and divine powers to those that please theme. Since the fall of the Age of Magic, the power of the gods is one of the main sources of magic in Erebus. Here is a list of the primary gods, and their domains. This is an overall list, and might not represent the gods that are worshiped or even known about by the Amurites or the characters.
The Good Gods
Lugus the Everwatchful - God of Light (Male); Domains: Sun, Fire, Protection, Glory; Counters Agares.

Sirona the Wise - Goddess of Wisdom (Female); Domains: Knowledge, Good, Luck, Healing; Counters Esus.

Nantosuelta the Faithful - Goddess of Enchantment (Female); Domains: Artifice, Magic, Charm, Air; Counters Ceridwen;
* Lover of Sucellus and send Kylorin to Erebus.

Sucellus the Broken - God of Nature (Male); He was killed by Mulcurn at the end of this Age, his death freed the way for Mulcarn's Enternal Winter to begin. Former Domains: Weather, Plant, Animal. Countered Camulous. He created the Elves.

Amathaon the Pure - Goddess of Fertility (Female); Domains: Community, Repose, Travel, Water; Counters Mammon.

Junil the Righteous - God of Justice (Male); Domains: Law, Strength, Good, Nobility; Counters Aeron.

Bhall the Fallen - Goddess of Fire (Female), She fell at the end of the Age of Magic during what is called The Burning. She and her follower's souls reside now in the underworld, trapped there. Former Domains: Fire, War, Strength, Liberation; Countered Mulcarn.

The Neutral Gods
Kilmorph the Stoneforged - God of the Earth (Male); Domains: Earth, Artifice, Rune; Crafted the Dwarves.

Arawn the Soulkeeper - God of Death and Life (Male); Domains: Death, Repose, Darkness;
Arawn is almost completly uninterested in what is happening in the world as his attention is on the underworld.

Tali the Windborne - Goddess of the Air (Female); Domains: Air, Weather, Magic.

Danalin the Thoughtful - God of the Water (Male); Domains: Water, Knowledge, Travel.

The Evil Gods
Camulos the Warblade - God of War (Male); Domains: War, Chaos, Destruction, Evil; Counters Sucellus.

Aeron the Spitefull - God of Hate (Female); Domains: Evil, Trickery, Madness, Charm; Counters Junil.

Ceridwen the Brightstar - Goddes of Conjuration (Female); Domains: Magic, Artifice, Knowledge, Rune; Counters Nantosuelta; She first brought magic to man and was Kylorin's first teacher.

Mammon the Golden - God of Greed (Male); Domains: Glory, Nobility, Earth, Luck. Counters Amathaon.

Esus the False - God of Deception (Female); Domains: Trickery, Charm, Chaos, Air; Counters Sirona.

Mulcarn the Betrayer - God of Winter (Male); Domains: Cold, Evil, Weather, War; Countered by Bhall;
*Killed Sucellus and has caused the Age of Ice.

Agares the Black - God of the Night (Male); Domains: Darkness, Strength, Destruction, Liberation; Counters Lugus.

Minor Gods/Celestial or Infernal Beings
Rohadil the Horselord - God of Horses (Male); Domains: Animal, Travel, Community. Worshiped by a small tribe of the Amurites.

Droskar - Dwarven God of Toil (Male); Droskar, The Dark Smith's worship in ancient dwarven times is hardly remembered these days. Even to this day only a few dwarven scholars remember him. What or who he truely was may never be known. He has no followers or power anymore.
The domains listed in italics are the primary ones. I have updated this list for the base Pathfinder list. They vary greatly in places from those found in the Age of Ice D&D 3.5 Game because of the limit on domains available. Hopefully I can find some other domains, such as Cold or I'll have to make some up to round these out.

Cold Domain (Homebrew)
Granted Powers: You can call forth frost, command creatures of the ice, and your flesh does not freeze.

You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Cold Resistance (Ex): At 6th level, you gain resist cold 10. This resistance increases to 20 at 12th level. At 20th level, you gain immunity to cold.

The Afterlife

Like any land with various cultures and religions the truth about the afterlife is never certain. What is certain however is that there is life after death in one manner or another. What is generally accepted by all people is some variation on the following.
The Truely Sinful and Proud find their spirits roaming the burning caverns of Hell where Agares the Black rules. Tormented and tortured those spirits that end up here are truely damned. Some of the more evil souls may find themselves reborn as deamons or devils and find a second life of sorts serving Agares in this manner.

The Truely Pure and Virtuous find their spirits elevated to the celestial realms of Heaven where they walk with their patron dieties in nirvana. The truely righteous may accend as angels or other creatures of the celestial realms.

Most dead souls however find their way to Arawn the Soulkeeper a truely neutral diety who is tasked with sheparding the dead either into the underworld till The End or sending them back to relive life again in hopes of living a better life and rising up to the celestial realms.

The dwarves general believe that living an honorable and glorious life will bring you to the Forgehalls of the Crafter where you will see your ancestors and drink and be merry until The End.

The elves are currently in a bit of a state of chaos at this point with the death of Sucellus. It was onced believed good elves would wander the Enternal Forests in the celestial realms at the guidance of Sucellus but now none are certain what may happen to those elves who would have normally gone there. Nor are the sure what's happened to the spirits that alreadyed reached that place.

Each god generally has a favored weapon. In the current age the favored weapon may be slightly different than in other ages, as the gods's favored weapons are not easily available to their faithful in the later Age of Ice and so you may see more primitive weapons used in other games.

Good Gods
Lugus - Swords (Any)
Sirona - Staff
Nantosuelta - Dagger
Amathaon - Mace
Junil - Spear
Sucellus - Bow
Bhall - None

Neutral Gods
Kilmorph - Hammers
Arawn - Scythe
Tali - Javelin
Danalin - Trident

Evil Gods
Camulos - Battle Axe
Aeron - Dagger
Ceridwen - Staff
Mammon - Flail
Esus - Bow
Mulcarn - Spear
Agares - Halbred

Minor Gods
Rohadil - Longspear/Lance

The Farrelite Cult
The Farrelites are a breakaway religous sect in Icatia founded by Oliver Farrel. While found throughout Icatia, they are concentrated in the city of Montford. Far more zealous in their actions than the Order of Leitbur, many Icatians are wary of the cult. While the Farrelites still claim to stand for righteousness, purity, and the Hand of Justice, they are quick to label others as impure and have became brutal vigilantes.

Origin
Oliver Farrel was originally an Icatian priest who broke away from the Order of Leitbur when he found them too complacent towards the Order of the Ebon Hand. Farrel gathered many followers through impassioned speeches on the street, bringing many of the poor to his flock with talks of political reform against the corrupt Icatian government. When Trokair fell, the Farrelites broke all ties with Icatia and became openly hostile. Farrelite Priests will often stir crowds into a frenzy, accusing innocent people of being agents of the Ebon Hand or of Mulcarn.

Apocalypse
The most fanatic of the The Farrelite Cult have turned to a sort of apocalypse view of how to solve everything. They believe the only way to save the world is to remake it, and they believe that the Hand of Justice, the god Junil will come down and cleanse the world of everything so creation can start fresh once more. This following is small still, but is growing with each passing season.

"The Hand of Justice will come to cleanse the world if we are true." - Oliver Farrel
