Prelude: Discovery

Over thirty years ago humans found a cache of ancient Prothean technology on the planet Mars. Studying and adapting this technology, humankind has managed to break free of the solar system and has established numerous colonies and encountered various extraterrestrial species within the Milky Way galaxy. Utilizing alien artifacts known as Mass Relays, the various space-faring races are able to travel instantly across vast stretches of the galaxy. Within the game, humanity has formed the Human Systems Alliance, one of many independent bodies that make up the collective of "Citadel space".Run by DM Tet'Nak

Prelude: Discovery

Post by TetNak » Wed Feb 24, 2010 11:42 am

Hours have passed as the shuttle slowly pushed through space and finally broke the atmosphere of Venture. Never did Jack think he'd be all the way out in the Iera System in service to the Alliance.

Sgt. Thomas calls back from the pilot's seat. "Lt. Grissom, landing on the ridge as planned. Scans come back negative for any movement or sensors."

The shuttle jolts back, its landing gear engaged and now sitting the shuttle down on the rocky canvas of earth below them.

The third member of Jack's crew is Private Vern. Both Thomas and Vern had been assigned to him days ago, and Jack really knows very little about each. Max Thomas has high level certifications for demolition, while Erika Vern is Biotic.

The ships computer issues a standard warning, "Temperatures unsuitable for sustained activity outside of environmentally controlled areas. Please use caution."

Sgt. Thomas and Pvt. Vern grab their helmets, ready to depart the shuttle.

Three Days Ago

Through the chain of command Lt. Grissom was assigned a mission. He was to investigate a meeting between the Blue Eclipse and Batarian Pirates. Supposedly the Blue Eclipse were paying a hefty price for something. The Lt. was to find out what, and depending on the item, to not allow this transaction to proceed. The choice was of course no up to the Lt., but instead, he was too send communications back to the fleet to receive further orders.

Venture

"Sir, the rendezvous is two clicks in the nearby mountain range. Set for four hours," Thomas says, waiting for their orders.
This prelude is for Shurijo. I'm looking for anyone who wants to play the NPCs of Thomas and Vern, as well

Lieutenant Grissom nods at Thomas' statement and replies, "Let's move out. We should have time to find a good observation spot. Check your gear. I don't want to extract anyone due to armor leaks."

The young man double checks his gear and then steps out of the shuttle with his assault rifle in hand and pistol attached to the back of his armor. "Thompson, you're on point. Vern follow about 10 meters behind me, but keep us in sight at all times."

As he waits for Thompson to move forward, he raises his right arm and taps on a button enabling the orange hologram display of his standard issue Alliance omni-tool. "Sending waypoint to your nav screen. Sending rendezvous point for after mission if we get broken up. Sending waypoint for shuttle. Set operating comm freq to Zulu Whiskey 7 2 Charlie."

The Lieutenant's orange omni-tool lights up over his left arm. His squad mate's omni-tools do the same as Grissom sends them data.

The first checkpoint is an old, abandoned, communications array. The plan is to hijack the local console, repair it if needed, and use it to have local satellites spy on the meeting.

Thomas places his helmet onto his head, waiting for the others to do so, and then opens the hatch of the shuttle and walks outside.

The surface of Venture is rocky and the sun beats down on everyone as soon as they step outside. Private Vern looks at her omni-tool and grimaces, "One-hundred and thirty degrees," she says offhandedly. Even with their helmets, which are blowing cool air on the squad's faces, the heat is noticable.

Grissom speaks through the communication link in his helmet, "Try to stay in the shadows of the rocks. I don't want our shields to overheat before we get there." The lieutenant moves out following behind the sergeant.

Each omni-tool gives the squad a good ascension point into the mountains. There seems to be a narrow trail that moves up into the mountains. From time to time they are forced to stop and navigate their way around a rock slide, but they make relatively good time until they spot a man made structure that juts out of the side of the mountain. The trail they are on seems to lead right to it.

"I think that's the entrance to the communications complex," Thomas says, looking at his omni-tool.
Do you have a token pic?

Grissom scans over the area looking to see if anyone has shown up yet or not. The group needs to get into the complex and hack the terminal unnoticed. "Any signs someone is already here?" he asks the others as he peers out to the complex.

I'll have to work on one tonight. if you need to start battle maps, you can use the standard shepard pic. i'll come up with another one later tonight or later this week. Or just use the Alliance logo and a Lieutenant rank bars. you might be able to do same with logo and rank for sarge and private (make sure you use marine stripes and not army :) ) and later re-use them :)

do we have binos? or does helmet provide something like that? don't know if you could use binos through helment or not

Thomas pulls a pair of standard issue binoculars from his pack. They are suited so they can be viewed with no issues through a helmet's faceguard. The binoculars suck to Thomas' mask, peering down the trail and toward the complex. "Two Batarians, they look like they are standing guard."

Grissom muses, "Too bad we don't have a sniper, but we're suppose to go unnoticed. If they find two dead Batarians, they'll call off the meet. Is there a clear route to the terminal?"
is thompson a tech or am i the one to repair and configure the terminal?

Its Thomas. He's the tech
The terminal is inside the communications complex.

"I don't think there's a way," Thomas says. "Do you think they'll even noticed the guards if they cannot get word to anyone else? The meet is within the hour."

Grissom nods and knows there's no other solution. They don't have enough time to sneak into the complex. "Okay, let's make this quick. Focus fire on one target until he's down, then move to second target. Conserve ammo if possible, we don't know how long we'll be away from the shuttle."

He moves into position and points out positions for the two enlisted personnel of his team. Looking down to his omni-tool, he presses a button indicating the first target to take down.
move into position, spread out a bit if possible to get some cross fire going, but not too far spread out, etc.
