Re: Back to work, Atlantis post-combat investigation

The security forces quickly move in to secure and subdue Alton. The security personal is unusually aggressive, but not enough to bruise Alton. The scientist might understand their aggressive movements, because he had just blasted them with his energy gauntlets.

His equipment is removed and seized by the security forces and Alton is lead out of the lab and towards the security force command station. The Atlantian Security Force handles the internal police matters of the underwater city while the Atlantian Defense Force looks outwards to potential attacks and defenses against outsiders. This divide is mostly scene in the tactics by the two different agencies. The ASF employees mostly investigators and forensics personnel while the ADF focuses on strategy and tactics.

A few minutes later, Alton finds himself secured within an ASF interrogation room. He's waited within the room for a couple hours with drinks and snacks, but with no information about what is going on outside.

Finally, the ASF chief commander enters along with the lead officer who attempted to arrest him. "Alton, you'll be free to go on your own, but you're placed on probation and require extra community service in light of your brash attack on the security force. We can't allow attacks on our officers to go unpunished."

Letting him go with no imprisonment or hard labor for the assault would be seen as going easy on Alton. Then Alton notices behind the two security force men, the King is walking towards the interrogation room. When the King enters, he closes the door behind him and the three men take a seat across the table from Alton.

The security chief command starts first asking, "Alton, we need you to tell us everything you know about Captain Nehe, Kareb Lai, and the drone attack on the surface."

Alton nods and, beginning at the start of the day of the drone attack, tells the trio everything he knows as fact. After a long, and somewhat dry, retelling of the previous weeks' events, Alton begins delving into his own interpretations of said facts:

"Captain Nehe seemed to be a friend until tonight. I'd have never suspected his involvement in this sort of thing. He was utterly professional in his dealings with Kareb and myself. I still hold respect for the man's demeanor and ability, if not for his moral lacking.

"The attack of the drones was undoubtedly orchestrated. I believe it a test of both my devices and the drones themselves. It seems possible that, had the drones succeeded in their attack, Kareb and myself would have been kidnapped and forced into service of the rogue group. It may also be the case that General Rap would have been disposed of, leaving Nehe the sole survivor and up for possible promotion, but I may be reading too much into that.

"From the examination of the drones, Kareb and I have determined that the League of Humanity must be working with Atlantian scientists. I have ideas about a few of the individuals who may be involved, but nothing solid save for Nehe.

"Kalta Jel is the most outspoken pro-involvement scientist on behalf of the League of Humanity, but I don't know that he is involved in this plot. He certainly has the know-how to help with their designs. The only bit of evidence that directly points to Kalta Jel is the hole in the defenses of the drones. On the day all of this began, he had given an address imploring the Atlantian people to join with the League and, after the elimination of the mutants, to control them.

"Kareb Lai has the intelligence and ability to put together the drones as well, and a case could be made that she was disillusioned enough to join with the renegades in order to be taken seriously. However, as I have indicated previously, I find that possibility to be highly unlikely considering the help she's given us all in the investigation of the drones and with leaving the tape for me to find. It's also unlikely that she would leave so much of her research and work materials behind.

"Councilman Yula Polb may be working with them, but I find it difficult to believe that someone working with Nehe's group would compromise their position by asking me for more information. It is possible that he got some wind of their involvement, possibly being fed information by Nehe or one of his subordinates, and was simply looking for something solid to call for an investigation.

"General Rap is really the last person of note that I've had any dealings with on the matter. Unfortunaely, I've had so little personal contact with the man that I have no idea as to his preferences one way or the other."

The security force commander nods as Alton speaks and the lead investigator takes notes and compares it to other notes. He asks a few routine questions concerning dates, times, people, and places, appearing to be consolidating notes and stories from others.

After Alton finishes, King Bal suggestions, "I find Councilman Polb a bit overzealous in his views of open democracy and anti-military sentiments at times. However, it was his quick thinking that lead to your arrest warrant being rescinded. He's quite upset that he received the evidence second-hand. He came forward with other notes where he was personally investigating this matter along with other military projects outside of council purview as part of some new unauthorized secret oversight committee that he wanted to start and then lead after he gained enough evidence to show some sort of military conspiracy. I don't know if this will further his cause to lead that effort or derail it."

The security force chief commander continues, "Councilman Polb has been greatly forthcoming with his notes and ideas concerning this. With his notes and your testimony and any information taken from the guardsmen, we should be able to figure out the entire story. General Rap and Captain Nehe and their defense force details are all being debriefed and questioned now. Someone still needs to answer to the two dead Atlantians and the two in critical conditions from the attack on the military laboratory."

Finally, the lead investigator takes a turn at speaking. "We have only yet confirmed Nehe's part in this. Kalta Jel wasn't in his home and appears that he hasn't been there in several days. His assistant is also unaccounted for. We're in a process of issuing a curfew so we can get a better count of the population and see who else is missing."

The King finishes saying, "This is a matter of most confidential matters. We have had the worst security leak in our history and it's all because of a few individuals believing they know what's best for all of us. We'll survive, but we must remain Atlantians at heart and mind to do such. If we revert to subterfuge, then we'll lose ourselves instead of saving ourselves."

King Opar looks over to the security force chief command and says, "I want Alton briefed on all new information taken from Nehe and the others. He might know something else that we're missing."

The security force chief nods and says, "Yes, sir."

Just then, another security force officer signals and enters the room. "Sirs, Nehe has revealed new information."

The three men stand and begin to leave the room when the chief looks back at Alton saying, "Well, are you coming or going to stay in there all day?"
they'll walk you to an observation room with Nehe on the other side in an interrogation room, much like you were just at

pausing to give you some room to rp a bit :)

Alton smiles as he stands to join them. Perhaps it's the light, but there does not appear to be any mirth behind it.

"Oh, I wouldn't miss this for the world."

Upon entering the observation room, Alton glares through the two-way mirror at the man responsible for his current predicament.

As the men enter the room, one of the security force personnel quickly gives them a summary of what Nehe's said.

"He was unaware of the drones on the island, but believes they were prototypes left in the surface laboratory that activated when the demonstration began. Kalta used that laboratory for development on the drones. At the time of the attack, he was sympathetic to the cause, but wasn't brought in until after that incident in order to resolve it without implicating the others."

The lower ranking officer says, then he presses a button that activates the two-way mirror showing Nehe and a few interrogators on the other side of the mirror. The group is unseen by Nehe and the interrogators.

"They have a cure!" Nehe exclaims as if justifying his reasoning and the group's cause. "We only need to develop a few systems for them in exchange for the cure. Don't you understand? What's the loss of a few humans or mutants when we can cure ourselves? We've tried for thousands of years and haven't been able to do it. Kalta said that he's seen it and read the reports and it works! The Intellegentia has the cure."

As Nehe continues to rant, the younger officer explains, "He's said that the Intellegentia is a secret group comprised of geniuses from humans, mutants, and Atlantians. Kalta sits on this board and works with them to divert the matters on the surface in favor of their goals. "

Alton frowns as the young officer continues his explanation.

"Is there any record of this Intelligencia anywhere in the annals? Has Nehe claimed to know of anyone else besides Kalta Jel that is in this organization?"

As Alton speaks, it's obvious that he is somewhat skeptical through his tone of voice, but he refrains from speaking such outright without more data to go on.

Just as Alton asks his question, one of the King Opar's advisers enters and whispers something to him about something requiring his attention. "Excuse me, gentlemen. It appears I have other matters to attend to. I wish to kept informed of the information gained from Mr. Nehe and any other information concerning the supposed cure, Kalta Jel, this group, and Kareb Lai."

The king exits the room and makes his way through the security forces command building and back out towards his office.

The other men speak up after the king has left. "We do not have such information. We only keep records relating to internal Atlantian matters. The ADF might have more information concerning outside groups."

"We will ask General Rap and bring in the ADF command staff for questioning and confirmation of the group." The security chief states as he escorts Alton out of the room. "We still have the matter of locating Kareb Lai and the other Altantians within this conspiracy. I believe that for your own safety, you should stay here at the command building until the matter is resolved."

Alton stands around the building for a few moments before one of the security force staff officers approaches him informing him that his presence is requested by the king.
