Chapter 2: The Plans of the Intelligencia

A brand new era for humanity and mutantkind begins here! The rise of mutants coincided with global and secret agencies dedicated to detain all mutants and protect humanity. Most of earth's population including presidents, prime ministers, and royal families remain unaware of the mutant struggle and their powers. 'Nuff said.

Chapter 2: The Plans of the Intelligencia

Post by Shurijo » Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:09 am

Deep below Earth's ocean surface, begins Chapter Two of the Mutants and Masterminds: Infinity Crisis campaigns. This thread is for the characters of Alton Zet and Orion only. Please do not post to this thread unless you are veritas, Trogdor, or are instructed to do so later on.

Present day, Earth, Timeline 128* (As recorded by Time Keepers)

The Atlantian Civic Council, the King and his advisers, along with a select few scientists at the request of the King are present within a private chamber of the coliseum of New Atlantis.

Atlantian Security Force personnel along with the King's elite guard stand guard at the door when Alton Zet arrives. The guards expect Alton and along with a couple of the King advisers permit him to enter the room.

With his research assistant kidnapped, an Atlantian traitor in custody, another traitor in league with a secret group, and the mention of a cure for the Atlantian birth disease swirling around in his thoughts. Alton hoped the request of the King to contain an answer to any of these problems.

For Orion, it's been a long journey that cannot be measured in miles, kilometers, or light years. He, along with other Celestial Protectors, has been tasked with the safety of the galaxy. After searching for several hours in the region, he spotted an Atlantian observation post, where he then requested an audience with the leader of the civilization.

As he was escorted to the underwater city of New Atlantis, he was informed that the Civic Council are the real leaders within the small civilization, but the King has a great influence in the decision making process. For his claims to be accepted, he must win over both the council and the king.

When arrived in the city, he was prompted escorted by the Atlantian Security Force into the private chamber. Then the civic council and king was informed of the stranger's arrival. As he waited, Orion was informed that there would be additional specialists and scientists at the request of King Opar Bal to hear his words and ask questions.

As Alton and the other advisers enter and take a seat, Orion is given the nod to inform everyone who he is and why he has called them together.

Alton notices the stranger standing across from the civic council. He is a rather unique individual. His skin tone is slightly blue, very similar to Atlantians, but it's clear that he's not an Atlantian. It's possible that the stranger is a earth based mutant and that the mutant genes somehow affected his skin color, but something tells Alton that it's more complicated than that.
Welcome to Chapter 2

This thread is for Trogdor (Orion) and veritas (Alton Zet).

Please describe yourselves, so that you guys can get an idea of appearance/attitude from each other.

Alton leans forward on his elbows, silently awaiting the strange visitor's words. He is bald with blue hued skin like the other Atlantians, but seems overdressed in his sleek lab suit. He wears goggles made of an odd reddish-gold colored metal with darkened lenses over his eyes and a strange pair of gun-metal grey armored gauntlets on his hands and forearms.
I had wanted to have a picture done for this before posting, but RL had other plans :( Maybe next time.

King Bal looks over to Alton when he enters and nods to him as his advisers continue to speak with the King. He is glad that the scientist was able to make it to the event.

After a few moments and everyone has taken a seat and settled down, the King addresses the visitor saying, "Visitor, speak your message."

"Thank you, your majesty," the blue-skinned visitor says, stepping forward. He seems unbothered by the water, the chill, or the pressure resulting from his current location, though he doesn't seem to be breathing the water. And while he moves freely, it's by a means other than swimming.

"My name is Orion," He begins. "I come to you with a warning of great danger to this entire planet. I am a representative of a group called the Guardians of the Universe who act to protect the sentient races from the threat of the A'Qal, a race bent upon the destruction of habitable worlds for no reason the Guardians have ever been able to learn. The A'Qal target a planet and within hours, days, or weeks of their arrival, the planet is invariably rendered entirely sterile. If there was life on the planet, it is eradicated." He looks around the group gathered by the king. "The A'Qal have now targeted Earth." He pauses to let that sink in.

"There may be some chance to fight them off this time, however," he adds. "As the most advanced civilization on the planet, I come to you first to see if you will lend the Guardians your aid in defense of Earth."

Everyone, but the council members, turn to look at the King to ask the first question. King Bal starts saying, "Welcome to New Atlantis, Orion."

He quickly glances around the room as the council members and others are taking notes and shuffling through panels on their hand held display devices. The King states, "I would like our advisers to speak freely and ask the outsider any question and raise any concern. The council will take up the matter, but it would be wise for everyone to voice their questions and concerns now while we have Orion's presence."

"How can we assist you? Our technology is mighty, but our numbers are few. Our defense force is adequate to defend our sole city, but not enough to hold off an invading alien armada."
veritas, King has given you the okay to ask any questions too, so feel free to jump in, want this to go back and forth a bit between the three of us, so that it's not just one-to-one speaking now :)

"There is a device on this planet," Orion explains, "or so the Guardians believe. It lies dormant now, but will be activated at some point soon. This device will draw the A'Qan here to destroy your planet. Our only hope to save your world is to find this device. It is almost certainly hidden, and is no doubt of immense age. But it must be located somewhere on the planet."

"You have lived here for the entire life of your species," he continues. "Do you have anomalies, artifacts, ruins, or the like of particular age or complexity that you are aware of? Perhaps even legends of such things would give us a starting point. I can transmit whatever data I have to you to aid in the search. But I'm afraid it's precious little."
Do I have that right?

The king nods and says, "Yes. We have archives that speak of the old kingdom. Most of our archives were destroyed thousands of years ago by a civil war in our former capital. Many records were recovered and collected once we reformed and built New Atlantis. There has been other aliens to arrive on earth during the old kingdom, but I have never heard of the A'Qal."

"The council shall vote on providing a research assistant to search our archives using the parameters and information you can provide. Non-Atlantians are not permitted within the archives buildings."

He looks to the others and asks, "Are there any other questions for our guest?"
Yep. That's right.

the image you uploaded has pale skin, i thought you changed it to bluish skin?

Alton looks somewhat perplexed at the strange alien's words.

"Apologies respected visitor, but how do you know Earth has been targeted by these aliens? What are our chances of surviving their attack if we have been targeted, and would it be more prudent, perhaps, to evacuate instead? If evacuation is not an option, then do you have any information as to how they accomplish the task of sterilization, that we might be better prepared to resist? As my king has stated, we have a humble defense force capable of protecting our city, but not much more. We must think toward the survival of our people."

"Evacuation is an option," Orion replies. "Though given the population of this world, perhaps an unrealistic one." He holds up a hand. "But you asked some questions; I'll try and answer as best I can."

"As to how we know Earth is targeted, well, the Guardians, beings of far greater power and wisdom than you or I, have been studying the A'Qan for millenia. They have recently found subtle signs they believe presage an attack. I'll have my ship transmit all the information we have about the warning. Perhaps that will help with your analysis."

"As to how they will accomplish the sterilization," Orion shakes his head slowly back and forth. "Overwhelming numbers and power, and technology far in advance of anything I've seen here, even in Atlantis. Unless your power is orders of magnitude greater than it appears, and is shared by the billions on the surface, the A'Qan would quickly overwhelm any defense you could put forth."

The king states, "We don't know when they'll attack and even if they'll attack. It would be wise to investigate, but we have our own problems to currently deal with."

King Opar Bal looks to the civic council and then turns back to the Atlantian scientist who just asked the question to the guest. "Alton Zet, I would like you to accompany the visitor in researching this threat. I believe you are too connected to the current matters and could use a bit of a rest. We will keep you up-to-date on those other matters as the situation progresses. Your skills may lend itself to discover something new from the visitor's technology. If the civic council approves it, then you shall have unrestricted access to the archives."

The king pauses for a moment to give others a minute to ask a few questions. From the council comes a few questions.

"How can we trust you?"

"How do we know you don't work for A'Qal and this is just a plot to plunder our archives?"

"Have you contacted the surface dwellers?"

"Is your ship large enough to evacuate all of New Atlantis?"
