Prelude - Cellar Dweller

Blood of Heroes - A 3rd Edition Mutants and Masterminds Campaign Setting

Earth, 2021. An alien race known as the Skree has ruled over the planet for the past 20 years, subjecting the local populace to the sadistic whims of their most brutal reign. True heroes have been all but eradicated during the Skree Invasion of 1999-2001. That or they have fallen prey to the Skree's corruptive influence and mind-altering technology. Those heroes that still survive, do so either in reclusive hiding or by battling one another in gladiator-like fashion as the Skree's amusement. Now after twenty years of servitude, a new breed of heroes are slowly starting to emerge. Fed up with the decadence that now surrounds them and fueled by their own personal desires, these young heroes have decided to try and make a stand for humanity, once and for all.

Does this new breed of heroes have what it takes to rise up against the Skree and take back their homeworld? Are they capable of breaking the shackles of oppression that bind them to a life of unwavering servitude? Time shall tell True Believers, to see whether or not these few elite individuals truly possess...the Blood of Heroes.

Luke raises his steel-toed boot to try and stomp down upon one of the rats. As he does so, the feral trio hiss and squeak wildly then scatter. Luke's crate rattles and clanks as he continues to stomp about the ground, his target being the rat he first encountered upon the stairwell.

CRUNCH-OMP!!!

Luke's boot comes down hard on top of one of the rats. The pitiful rodent's ribs are immediately crushed beneath the man's weight and the horribly-squeaking creature spends its last breathing moments desperately trying to rid itself of the troublesome thing on top of its body. One down, two to go!

Still however, the rat Luke wanted to kill eludes him, having scampered off with the other into the darkness.
All clear, the other two rats ran off.

Raging Tiger's misshapen smile is soon replaced by a look of sheer frustration. Having witnessed Luke's ordeal with the rodents, he now realizes that two of the three vermin have scampered their way behind the storage racks and are currently within his proximity.

One of the rats quickly climbs upon the makeshift table Tiger used to rest his television. With puma-like speed, the ravenous creature immediately begins to devour the hero's remaining hamburger. Dammit!

MEANWHILE...

Tiger flinches suddenly as the other rat (the one Luke first encountered) brushes against his hand with its whiskers. The creature most assuredly smells something edible upon the man's fingers and breath and means to investigate the scent further!
No worries, you can both go through this entire Prelude quite easily w/o running into one another. I'm just here to add some tension along the way. Do what you wish and we'll go from there.

Luke is horrified as his boot crunches the poor rat. "Why didn't you get out of the way you stupid thing!" He scrapes the rat remnants off his boot on the floor. Now feelings of guilt roll over him like a flush and he hurriedly looks for where his crate goes keeping an eye out for the other two rats.

Tiger flashes out his two fingers right between the rats eyes attempting to kill it with a single blow to the temple.

He then grabs the dead rat and hurls it at the one currently eating his lunch and on his television.

He remains hidden for as best he can hoping any noise from his actions is covered by the man's own talk and sound.

Raging Tiger takes one look down at the overly-curious rat brushing its whiskers against his knuckles and quickly lunges out with two of his fingers, both directly aimed at the poor thing's head. Grasping the ravenous rodent by the sides of its head and neck with his fingertips, Raging Tiger then proceeds to snap the little thing's neck with one smooth flick of his wrist. *Crack*

Now snapping his own neck over at the rodent gorging itself upon his cold leftovers, Raging Tiger then proceeds to snatch up the rat that he just killed and flings it over at the other one with deadly precision. Sadly, he not only knocks the rat eating off from the table, but what little remains of his hamburger as well!

Cursing softly, Raging Tiger waits to see if whether or not he's been spotted...

Luke finishes cleaning his boot off when he hears some noises. Thinking the rats got into something they shouldn't have he sets his crate down and heads over to look. Giving the area a quick look he tries to find the rats.

Tiger tries to fade further back into the shadows while cursing himself for leaving his mask by the TV.
Stealth until he is certain via notice he has been seen then port to table grab mask and put it on with back turned.

Stupid fickle dice!

Having heard something disturbing, Luke places his crate down upon the ground and begins to look about. The basement is dark and the flickering lights, annoying. The young man scuffles ahead in the shadows and proceeds to peer amongst the racks of storage shelves as best he can. Other than several odd-looking shapes and quite a few out-dated items upon the shelves, the young man notices nothing out of the ordinary. Not a rat to be seen!

** thehitcat **
Staring at his mask beside the television, Raging Tiger takes a deep breath and holds it as long as he can. The newcomer to the basement has decided to be curious! Moments seem like an eternity as the disfigured hero creeps his back amongst the shadowy recesses of the surrounding storage shelves. Before long, the hero can breathe once more, confident in knowing he has yet to be discovered.
I'm not one to fudge rolls. There is no "need" for the two of you to run into each other. I was just hoping that it might have happened. We can easily end this and wait for the others to conclude their business - or if you decide to pop out and say hello, that is fine as well. No biggie either way :)

Shaking his head Luke moves back to his crate and picks it up ." I must be hearing things." He mutters and takes the crate to its resting place and putting it away. Taking 1 last look around he heads to the stairs to exit the storage room.

Way better this way you would have Sulked out if you saw me and pounded me through the floor :)
Raging Tiger eases his breathing a little and once the door shuts and he counts slowly to 100 he walks back over to the TV and turns the gladiators back on studying the S'Kree minutely.
