Prelude - A Man Possessed

Jack weaves about the darkness behind the apartments, his eyes ablaze. The young man quickly finds himself back at the apartment where he first encountered Jack Pearson. The muscular man intent on finding his sister is nowhere to be seen.

Mmmm....tasty... comments Malphas teasingly Such hate...and anger...Whoever this is their stench is positively delicious...

The wispy trail of evil wraps itself around the backside of the apartment building and then turns about full circle to continue on away from the building and over to the southwest. Allowing the demon inside of him to draw sustenance from the emanations, Jack continues to follow the trail. Before long he finds himself approaching the nearly adjacent A-Building.

Nearing the other apartment building, Jack suddenly turns to his right. The sounds of something running towards his direction can be heard coming from across the courtyard! Rapid in their approach, the sounds appear to belong to two small children with panic in their eyes. The two children run towards the direction of the building Jack just came from, D-Building.

As he sees the children, Jack allows the flames wreathing his eyes to dissipate once more, hoping to gather more direct information from them.

"Hey kids, calm down, what's wrong?"

The first child, clad in nothing more than a tattered pair of dirty underwear, simply races past Jack whiningly towards the other apartment. Snot drips from the child's nose and his eyes are red and puffy.

The second child, identical in features to the first though clad in a pale blue onsie jumpsuit (odd since the kid looks to be about 5), tries to stop in his tracks to turn towards Jack but stumbles and falls upon the grass and pavement.

Jack will offer a hand to help the child up, careful to avoid seeming too aggressive.

"Are you okay? You can trust me, I want to help. What were you running from?"

The little boy leans upright to reveal a bloodied nose and lip. His eyes show signs of fear and crying though he doesn't seem to mind his wound at all. "Our mommy's in trouble..." the boy replies meekly, his sad, puppy-dog-like eyes affixed to Jack's.

Reaching for Jack's hand the little boy allows the man a chance to help him upright. No sooner than he does however, then the other boy returns. "Get away from my brudder!" the child roars aloud in a fit of anger as he punches Jack sqaure in the testicles as hard as he can.

Jack grimaces slightly, and glares at the other child before reigning in the impulse to strike back. He steps back from the two, and softens his features, once again attempting to reason with the children.

"This is important, where is your mother? Was she attacked by someone?"

The angry boy barks at his brother. "Don't talk to Strangers Warren! They'll touch you!" The calmer child ignores the other boy's comments, merely replying. "We don't know mister, we just know that she's in twouble..."

Jack struggles to maintain a calm visage, but manages to suppress Malphas' objections.

"Look, both of you need to go somewhere safe and hide."

With that, Jack turns back to where the trail was leading and takes off again, allowing the eerie blue flames to wreath his eyes and illuminate his vision once more.

The boy with the bloody nose and lip nods to Jack and allows his brother to drag him off into the darkness. "I'm telling mommy you talked to strangers!" the child in his underwear grumbles angrily as he snatches his brother's arm. The child in his pale blue onesie doesn't even protest or complain at all. He merely waves goodbye to Jack softly and then fades from view.

Now with boys out of the way, Jack turns to continue following the trail of evil. His eyes blaze once more with blue hellfire and even Malphas seems to be pleased for once; having finally rid himself of the two children.

The trail is easy enough to follow, despite its twists and turns. The path itself leads to the southeastern corner of A-Building and seems to be nearing the laundry room. As Jack travels, he spots two black men up ahead in the darkness. The two men both have guns and appear to be guarding the stairwell that leads down into the laundry room.

Jack gazes at the two men guarding the stairwell with his Infernal Sight, scanning their souls for the sin he fully expects to find. He has no intention of punishing the innocent, as that would move counter to the entire reason he agreed to house the demon's essence, but he also feels a need to punish those who are not only guilty, but Evil. This is, perhaps, the only thing that he and Malphas can agree on.

Show me what you see. We must decide how to deal with this obstacle.
