Grimacing at the spines that have not only punctured his foot, but his Gore-Tex hiking shoe, John allows the creature to run off.

"HYAAAH! Get outta here! Goddamned Honey Badger!".

The excitement of tussling with the disgusting beast almost makes Murphy give chase... but the spines in his foot are deterrent enough to prevent it.
Putting his weight on the heel of his foot to keep the spines up, he looks for a place to sit.

Pulling the spines out won't be pleasant, but walking around with them sticking him would be even worse. John gropes around in his pockets for his Leatherman tool, and after patting himself down well enough to put out flames, he produces it, and sets to work figuring out how to remove the needles he's been stuck with.
Oh, Thank Christmas this thing is going to leave us the hell alone! I'll try to get these needles out of my foot, and remove my shoe to look at the effect they've had.

Sitting on the cave floor, Tom, relieved by the departure of the beast, takes a deep breath of relief as he sits back against the cave wall, trying to take some of the pressure off his smarting buttocks. He looks at Carl Jr, then in Murphy's direction, then solemnly stares at the handful of thick spines in his hand.

"Badger?" He smiles and stifles something, perhaps laughter, perhaps tears. He's not really sure himself.

Jason shakes his head, a little woozy from having his ribs massaged by the things fists. He flashes a smile at Sam for helping him in the fight
"..gonna sleep till Tuesday" he mutters under his breath. All at once a light-bulb turns on in his head and illuminates a terrifying thought.
"Oh shit, dad." Jason whips out his flashlight lightning and starts into the cave. He had heard the collective shouts and yelps of pain but they had been nothing more than background noise during his fight.
Waving his flashlight around in the mouth of the cave, "Dad? Guys?"
See you on the other side

Hearing his son shouting into the cave, John hollers back "We found Carl! Wait up there, there are animals living down here."

"Carl" Murph continues quietly "Are you hurt, boy? We ran that thing off, so come on up with us. We're here to help you."

Shining his light over at the boy, then to Vincent, John awaits a reply from either.

Vincent relieved the animal ran off moves back to try and grab Carl. He wants to pick the boy up and carry him out.

"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, thank god you're all right."
Try to pick up Carl and leave.

Red indicates in the cave, Green indicates outside.

Vincent 15, John 13, Jason 11, Fred 9,Sam 9, Tom 8, Inside Whatzit 6
Vincent lets the little creature go, and goes back to Carl, but the invisible wall he encountered before is still there.

John sits on his rump and eventually finds a Leatherman tool to start extracting the spines from his foot. It's not going to be pleasant, but it's got to be done.

Jason ignores the painful spines in his hand for now, but also doesn't enter the cave just yet.

Ignored, the monkey thing outside is lost to sight.

Fred...
MV, you're the last. If you don't want to pursue combat, the combat is over.

Jim: The spines are in your foot, not your hand. Only Jason has them in his hand.

Like the others, Fred decides not to chase the creature down, and lapses into silence as he holds the light on Carl and the invisible wall holding him in.
Don't know where MV is, but it's been 4 days since I asked if people were pursuing this fight. Back to normal RP.

Sam moves toward the cave again, not having any idea what the thing was, and cursing his phone for acting crazy when he needed it. He calls out, "Did you get the boy?" He says in a softer tone, "Did anyone get a picture of one of those things?"

John is still sitting on the ground, and starts pulling spines out with his Leatherman. By the time he's done, he feels a bit woozy and not at all well. Whatever those things are, their spines do have some sort of poison on them.
2 more poison rolls before the poison stops having an effect (For now! muhahahaha!)

Pyg elected to spend WP on one of them:
1st: 6 2, fail, 3 levels of damage
2nd: 6 6, 10, 5, 4, 1. 1 Success, 2 levels of damage.

I've marked the damage with a 'p' as it's not going to heal like bashing, but it's not lethal.

John is at the -1 health level, so he has one less die to all actions.

Feeling all the worse for having yanked out the quills, John puts his sock and shoe back on, loosening the laces, since it's doubtless that hiking back through the woods is sure to make the appendage swell up.

Ordinarily he'd just man up, but this is going to require a trip to a doctor , and he's got nothing to disinfect the wound with.
The man who has everything doesn't have a first aid kit on him... now that's what I call realistic roleplay!
Standing on his uninjured foot, and testing his weight on the other, he looks over to see Vincent miming at some kind of barrier.

"Carl, boy... Come on over here... can you walk? It's okay, we're your neighbors, your folks sent us to come look for you." Murphy takes a step towards the odd circle the boy is in. "Let's go."
finish foot repair, move toward the circle, probably only to find the forcefield I've been too preoccupied to see Vincent struggling with.
