Chapter 1: A Means to an End

Brennor's RPG Corner has never seen a more wretched hive of scum and villainy! In our beta test of the new Fantasy Flight RPG, 'Star Wars: Edge of the Empire,' our heroes are just as often of the 'anti' variety: heart hearted smugglers, smooth scoundrels, and ruthless bounty hunters try to make ends meet and often find themselves struggling against authority in this fast-paced RPG set in the Star Wars Universe.

Jaime hisses and leans over from cover as his blaster rifle opens up again against the Devaronian. "Did you forget about me?! Your mistake!"
Aiming and shooting!

Jaime sees the Devaronian take cover behind a pile of crates. It doesn't stop the blaster rifle wielding Trandoshan, however, and the reptilian mercenary strafes to his right and lays down an incredible amount of fire. It obliterates the crate the Devaronian is hiding behind and then obliterates the Devaronian.

The arms dealer is riddled with blaster bolts and staggers backward, falling dead to the ground. However, in his frenzy, Jaime now realizes his weapon has overheated and jammed!
I used a Destiny Point to upgrade one of the difficulty dice! Dice Pool: 1 ability, 2 proficiency, 1 difficulty, 1 challenge (red dice), 1 boost (from inspiring rhetoric), 1 setback (devaronian in cover); Result: 2 success, 1 triumph, 1 despair! Triumph results in critical hit and kills the arm dealer! However, the despair results in you overheating your heavy blaster rifle. It's unable to be used for the rest of the encounter!
We're back to the top of the rotation now and any of the PCs can again act for 3 'slots'
The adventurers....
Enemies: Thugs (medium range from everyone)
PCs: All with cover, all with extra boost dice, Jaime's heavy blaster rifle is not useable

Glitch hears the box explode and watches as the Devaronian falls. "Yee, haw." he states as he takes aim at one of the remaining thugs and fires.
Maneuver: Aim
Action: Shoot at Aqualish thug
pass any bonus to next PC

Szara keeps firing as well although there is no enthusiasm for the death of the leader of the thugs.
Maneuver: Aim.
Action: Shoot at Aqualish thug.
If there's a second advantage: maneuver: move closer.

Pass on boost and turn the auto-advantage into another boost too.

Glitch sneaks out from behind cover and fires. However, the slicer's shots go wide.
Miss. No adv or threat. Everything canceled.
Szara does the same and she misses as well!!! The shots, however, distract the thugs enough that she's able to dash forward and close range with them.
Miss. 3 Advantage. You use extra maneuver to move to close range. Nice.
Jaxon follows suit.. in more ways than he'd like! The man curses as his shots go wide of the thugs. "Wait for me!" he yells and uses his shots as cover to follow Szara forward.
Destiny point + attack = Fail! But 2 advantage. Move to close range like Szara
The thugs...

.. fire and miss! It seems their aim is just as bad as Glitch, Szara's, and Jax's!!! One of the dimwits then remembers. "Hey!!" he says to his friend. "Get to that console over there!" he points to his right. "Tell the boys that the boss is down! Time to quit their card playin' and get in here for a share of the loot!!"
Aim. Miss. One advantage. Use to remember there is a com panel in the room near the wall (one maneuver away).
Jamie...
you guys are getting some shit rolls! I'm guessing short range really helps things out.

Jamie immediatly moves forward, leaving his blaster rifle behind for the moment and drawing his vibro knife as he moves to intercept any attempt to reach the console. "You two aren't the sharpest. Drop your weapons and we may let the one who does it first live." He brandishes his knife in a warning.

Toss the knife in the console!!!

You know, my character carries an extra pistol and explosives (frag and stun grenades). You're free to move there, spend a boost for an additional maneuver to draw and fire or throw.

Just another option. Because this is taking so long and another combat may take longer too...

Jaime's threat does little to stall the three thugs from getting the wall console. After all, they know they may be as good as dead if they lose this fight.

Out of breath, one of them pauses. A wicked smile is on his face. "Time for reinforcements..." he says and punches in a code.

A blast door slides open....

And uniformed guards storm the place in Formation!

Stunned, the thugs' jaws drop. They can barely even yell before they are gunned down. The guards stand over their smoking corpses and say into comlinks. "All clear!!"
Combat scene is over. Lessons learned?
For me... I think we still need to use a map. Other lessons? Let me know and post in OOC forum. It's a beta test after all!!! Free RP...

Szara still stays behind her cover but stands up, blaster pistol held low. "Who're you?" She asks, trying to make out if the other group is a threat to them as they were to the thugs.
